Chapter 241 Sworn brothers
"Where are you going?" Uriel asked with a plain face after catching up to him on the stairs that led outside.
"I'm heading back to the city, didn't you hear me?" Sam grunted.
"By yourself? All across the lost city?" Uriel was still undecided on whether Sam was being bold or dumb. Sam blinked a couple times and then replied harshly.
"What do you want me to do!? Huh? Do you seriously expect me to put all my effort into your stupid company? I lost everything I cared about, they took it from me!"
"I'm not saying you should put all of your effort, but at least you should think things rationally first. Not everything is lost, you just can't see it now. Besides, uou can't simply go back on your own, you might get killed."
"Why do you care? Huh? Why? You live with hot girls, have a company of your own, your grades are high and you're climbing in the Cryptid hunting agency. You don't know what it's like to be disowned by your own father."
"Yeah, because I don't have one. You're handsome and wealthy, yet all you do is whine, pout and sulk." Uriel glared at his friend, though instead of backing on his words he doubled down.
"At least you'll never know if he loved you, but I'm sure mine doesn't!" Sam crumbled on the ground after becoming a snotty mess of tears.
"How can you say that, when he's been helping us all this time."
"And you think that's because of me!? It's all because of Nika and the prospect of getting his hands on some orichalcum. The minute I enrolled in college they washed their hands of me and after they found out I wasn't really dating Medusa they disowned me. You don't have what it felt like, being taught to hate the Mapple corp. all my life and then being asked to marry their heir.
If I hadn't met her from before, I would have been forced into marrying her. I'm so fucking angry all the time!"
"Oh, boo hoo! My feelings are hurt because I lied to my family and had to face the consequences of my actions. If you're so mad do something about it!"
"Do what!?"
"I don't know, It's not my life, not my choices either. You think being disowned means just being cut off, when it actually means you're free to do whatever you want now. If you can't see how your father is helping you become your own man, then you're still a child."
Uriel's words resounded in the dark passage and Sam's eyes widened at the realization that all he had been doing was to complain instead of taking the necessary steps to protect what he held dear. From the minute he joined the college his life took a turn, but it wasn't all bad.
Your journey continues with My Virtual Library Empire
The next words that came out from Sam's mouth were something he would have never thought before, much less that he would be addressing them to the guy he met by making fun of him.
"Uriel, you are like a brother to me..." He wanted to continue speaking in an emotional and dramatic way, but Uriel cut him short with a fist to the face.
"Geez! That felt great." Said Uriel who had been wanting to do that for a long time.
"Where did that come from!?" Sam rubbed his cheek after receiving an almost harmless punch.
"Now we're brothers, I'll do that anytime you throw one of your pity parties." He replied with a smug. "We're brothers..." He repeated to himself and a familiar noise interrupted his thoughts.
[System notice] Samael Song's contact has been shifted to the family folder.

"Sam! You're a heavenly rank now!" Uriel said in a gasp.
"No way! I don't feel any stronger."
"I think I have a way to fix that, but you'll have to trust me and not ask any questions."
Sam nodded with a decisive frown and sharp eyes, an expression that usually forebode one of his bad decisions but this time was different.
Uriel took out his smartphone and showed the system app to Sam, who didn't seem to be surprised by it.
"What is it?" Uriel asked.
"Nothing, it's just that, the Samsong prototype works on an AI software that can detect your physical prowess, but it's not like," Sam's words died down after he tapped a twice on speed and a shimmering cyan liquid came off from the smartphone and entered his body."It works! I don't know how it happened but I can feel it!"
"I told you!"
"What should I pick?"
"I went for speed too, but now I regret overlooking flux because I can't hold the summon of my jaguar for long and I sometimes find myself without ammo."
"So you're telling me you can do this too!? And you kept this all for yourself!?" Uriel took the phone from Sam's hands and showed his own status window which was mostly filled with insults such as [grave robber], [iconoclast], [thief] and [murderer].
"I'm not exactly proud of the contents."
"But your page is freaking long! Wait, it says here you can buy stuff, is that true? Can you buy things?"
"I mean, I could, but they're really expensive. Even an energy drink costs 1k credits."
"Oh, nevermind them." Sam shrugged and then went back to his own screen to add some more points until it reached Strength 10, speed 20 and flux 10.
"I think we've let them waiting for too long, you should open the gate again." Uriel prompted Sam to stop fidgeting with his phone and ushered him downstairs while he remained alone near Swallow chief's throne.
They had a long day ahead of them, but if he wanted to investigate the ancient civilization he had to make the most of his time inside the dungeon.
