Chapter 18: Make your move
Will
"So you mean you've been deceiving me all this time?" Sona looked tense but always avoided looking directly at me. "I knew I shouldn't have trusted someone like you..." Her lips pursed, thousands of words wanted to be said but none could come out.
"Yes, you should have known who you were dealing with by now. It's a shame, though, that you were nothing more than a naive and spoiled girl." I laughed at her increasingly painful expression, her fists clenching in barely contained rage. "It was easy to get what I wanted from you, you're too simple and manipulable."
"Get it over with..." she said, and I followed her orders with a sadistic smile. "Checkmate, Sona." Slamming down on the board, I made my last move and attacked her defenseless king.
"For a king of a diabolical peerage, you're terrible at chess." She looked at me indignantly and snorted. "Don't play the saint, you kept distracting me the whole time." She was slightly flushed and embarrassed by her terrible performance in the game.

"Chess was supposed to be a contest of logical reasoning, not who can distract the other better!" I laughed as I watched her eat a few more snacks in the most delicate and refined way possible, but at this point she looked more like a cute hamster with her cheeks full.
"What are you looking at?" I looked away. Sona was eating a lot thanks to me. Food, drink, and smooth talk fooled many, and Sona slowly began to realize this. I wonder if devils don't get fat, but I think it's better not to comment... I want to get out of here alive today...
"Anyway, you turned this into a psychological battle, which is basically cheating, and a dirty one at that." I waved her off, ignoring everything she said.
"Psychology is very useful knowledge, not to mention that chess is anything but logical reasoning; it's more like memorizing patterns." Of course, I had a huge advantage over her, but I wasn't going to comment on that either.
"Not to mention that I still made some great moves, don't blame me for your indulgence and gluttony." Shit, it slipped out…

She looked at me in shock and blushed completely for a few moments, incredulous at my audacity. "I'm not a glutton... I just lost focus for a moment..." She surreptitiously pushed the plate of snacks away and got up. "I'm really not..."
"Are you not hungry anymore?" I smiled smugly, but she ignored me, went to get something, and soon returned.
"You're good at chess for two reasons: memory and distraction. If I eliminate both factors, I'll win." She placed a strange board in front of me. I searched my memory but couldn't find anything like it.
She soon removed the chessboard.
"So after you stopped winning, you decided to take the ball away and change the game, touché Sona." She smiled like an extremely satisfied cat and, with her hand on her chest, said proudly, "If the terrain is not favorable, exchange it for a better one. You have your art of deception, and I have my ancestral wisdom."
"I would call it ancestral tantrum, but if that's how you prefer it, so be it." She leaned toward me and flicked my forehead with her face wrinkled very close to me. "Don't talk to me like that."

"Did you hear me?That's rude! Hmpf" I got distracted, Her face was very close, and yet she didn't seem to notice the distance, looking at me steadily with puffed cheeks while I did my best to not look downwards.
"Of course..." She then sat down and continued her explanation.
"It's called Go, a very old game that I've never played and I'm sure you haven't either. I'll explain the rules and we'll see who's the best this time." She was very confident of her own victory as she adjusted her glasses. She quickly explained the rules to me
"But since you like to have fun so much, let's make a bet this time..." I raised my eyebrow in doubt. Sona, the straight-laced girl, wanted to bet?
"I never shy away from a bet. How much are we talking about?" With renewed vigor, I stared at her, but she dismissed it.
"No money. Let's bet a request, a single wish from the other that must be fulfilled without question." I sighed in disappointment but agreed.
"Sure, but don't even try to ask me to join your peerage or do anything that could hurt my honor. That's the only exception I ask for." She clicked her tongue, looking away in disappointment.
"He noticed I almost get It..." she muttered.
Earlier, she had officially called me to her peerage, and I had refused...
"That's fine with me, I ask for the same things. It will be a best of three. Without further ado, let's start now." The first game that followed was an exploratory game with neither of us making any big moves.
During the game, we exchanged our own strategies several times, trying to understand how to improve.
It ended with Sona's victory.
The second was marked by bold and reckless moves with high risks and rewards, with few words, and ended with my victory.
"Hehehe..." And finally, the last game was silent and surgical until suddenly it exploded with imprecise chaos. At various moments I felt insecure and shaky, and at others Sona felt thrown against the wall, sweating profusely.
"I won." Sona smiled victoriously with her eyes. The game had not been easy in any sense, but the question was, why did she win? I slowly applauded her.
"I didn't expect you to do that... and to think that you would act so recklessly out of nowhere, I thought you were going to play it safe until I break you into pieces along with your strategie." She was clearly proud of herself.
"I must admit, you are a master when it comes to predictability and know how to pressure me."
"It ended up being better to lose a little of control of my own accord before it was totally taken away from me, That is why I won." She was proud, but then her gaze suddenly shifted away from reality, immersing herself in her own thoughts.
"I guess It's worth not being in control..." Her mouth remained open without finishing the sentence, trying to understand her own confused thoughts. She coughed before looking at me somewhat stiffly.
"I won because I gave up control, I was flexible... Sometimes leading Sometimes being led, until my victory." She was strange and acting strangely.
She's keeping something to herself.
"Anyway, I still have to take a shower, and we have to sleep and plan for tomorrow. As I told you before, the situation with the Phenex is serious, and if anything happens to you, I won't hesitate to reincarnate you as my servant. Complain all you want later, but that's what I'll do." She changed her posture to an aggressive and defiant one.
"If you want to keep your freedom, prove that you can keep it, prove that you can carry the burden of responsibility that comes with it and that you don't need me. Understood?" I nodded in agreement.
Then I went to the guest room where I was staying and lay down, looking at the system for a few moments. I had many questions and few answers at the moment, especially regarding my new ability and how to distribute the points.
There was no better time to do this than now...
Knock! Knock!
"Come in." I frowned as I watched the door slowly open.
"Do you need anything, Sona?" Her shy gaze and blush seemed strange to me...
