Eclipse of the Magi

Chapter 283: Chapter 283: St. Besis' Chapel

As the doors swung open, a fresh course of air blew through the group, greeting them with open arms from the inner building itself. Silvery white brickwork lined against the walls, chandeliers of solid gold with white candles lit aflame, a pleasant aroma wafting downwards. A Large mosaic depicting of two men was in the middle of the room, right behind an altar that served to be the position for the Pastor. Such a mosaic was retelling a story, with one of them, being short, preparing to use a sling and a stone against the other, who was ready to strike down at the first with a heavy fist. The pews barely had a hint of dust, the furnishing being perfected, tended to whenever one had the chance. Solomon would go on ahead and investigate further, seeing that there were already petals nestled with the carpet, as if a wedding was already taking place, supposedly being one of the key evidence in having such practice.

Two doors were visible, one from the left and one from the right. The left lead towards a large hallway, the right into a darker room, assuming it to be some sort of closet, with an object shimmering in the black. Stolas and Harvard approached the right, being curious to that small light, whilst Zazel and Adel focused towards the left, catching a glimpse of something within a split second: A Shadow. More specifically, a small shadow that hurried its way across the halls. The demon grew suspicious and began to go after it, a sigil standby in case such confrontation would be met, with Adel following shortly afterwards.

"Wha- HEY!" Solomon shouted, yet he couldn't reach them, as they were already through the entryways, leaving him alone. He'd groan a bit, causing his Shadow to come alive once more and peek over, at first bearing a mischievous smirk, yet the Sorcerer was quick on catching him. "Oi, None of that smiling stuff. I know what you're thinking."

"Dooooooo you?" The Shadow replied, much to the boys annoyance.

"Yes, Yes I do. Just....don't be a hassle. I'm thankful that you haven't intervened in the previous-"

"But that's the THING, Solomon. I'm SUPPOSED to be one, or at the very least, make sure that you haven't gotten yourself hurt whilst I watched over you."

"Yeah, Yeah, I know that, but I don't want you to do something stupid while we're here, especially in a public area." Solomon would state, searching through the pews and seeing the shelves sitting on the walls, baring many religious texts to read through, most of them detailing the life of the Son himself.

Shady would keep distance of such books, mainly clinging towards Solomon's back if need be. "Alright, Alright. I won't be botherin' you that much. I want to ask something... You don't see me as a random spell to chuck through every now and then, right?"

Solomon stopped himself as he glanced back at the Book's Demon. "'Scuse me?"

"Think about it. Ever since you met those kids, you started to open up a bit more. I've been feeding you, giving you toys, bathed you, and covered the light of the sun so you can sleep easier. Ever since you got kicked out, I made sure you survived and thrived. I became the parent that stepped up to bat, little man! With your new friends...with all this...I was wondering if-"

"Okay, Okay, you got to stop thinking like that." Solomon interrupted, as he would pull out the Codex Gigas, skimming through the pages. The shadow loomed over the boy like a child, watching that he imprinted something in a few blank pages, specifically ones with faded text: Pictures. A Picture of Solomon riding a tricycle here, a Picture of the two in a beach there. The Biblical Sorcerer looked to the Shadow and spoke in a calm voice. "If you're scared that you're gonna be forgotten, don't. I still hold these things to this day. Hadn't it been for you, I'd die out there. I just....haven't been asking you as much as of lately. Feels like I'm beginning to be more in control with what I have...Y'now?" The shadow gasped as he heard Solomon's reasoning.

"YOU CAN'T SERIOUSLY MEAN YOU'RE GONNA BE LEAVING ME, ARE YOU!? OH, THE DISMAY!! OH THE CALAMITY!! THE BIRD IS READY TO LEAVE HIS NEST AND I CAN'T WAVE A MERE GOODBYE TO HIM!"

"THAT'S NOT THE POINT!" Solomon thwacked the Shadow upside the head, noticing him laughing and gained a scowl on his face upon hearing such laughter. "Jeez....This is why I never tend to bring you out a lot. So dramatic for no reason..." He'd roll his eyes as he'd focus back on the book. "...But, yeah. Ever since I met them, it feels like I have a new family, one that I have to keep an eye on in case something goes wrong. That's what you did with me, right? This is what I want to do with them."

The Shadow can't help but shed a tear for the boy, putting on an elder's voice to sell the joke further. "These darn kids be growin' up so fast...Papa Shady's so proud of you, youngin'." Despite the shrill sound, it was enough to make Solomon crack a smile, chuckling to himself a bit, as he'd close the book. Just before he tries to open his mouth..

KER-CLANG!!

The doors quickly shut themselves. The large, brown doors sealed the halls shut, not letting Solomon escape out. As he'd try to cast Shady out to pick the lock, he can notice another faint shadow nearby, one tall and prim, quickly trying to strike at the boy based on the silhouette. He'd be quick on casting a Barrier around himself, catching the man's hand, attempting to cast one of the Plagues to light him on fire. As he'd try to turn around, he would notice one more figure, one wielding a Bazooka, one aiming straight towards the Biblical Sorcerer's face.

KA-BOOOM!!!!!

An explosion that echoed across the chapel, a few pews blown to smithereens and the floor now dirtied in soot and shrapnel, the barrier breaking almost immediately. Two were before Solomon.

Two were ready to erase him by any means necessary.
