Chapter 501: Cedric's Suspicions and Helplessness

"It's weird..." Cedric muttered to himself as he stared at the skies.
In the naked eye, aside from the vast expanse of space and that barely noticeable sheen of divine light protecting the realm, there's really nothing else to see. However, in Cedric's eyes, it's different.
His gaze somehow penetrates the superfluous and the ordinary, able to see through the smoke and mirrors. He could see the movement of the Void, albeit with difficulty. It's quite far from him, after all.
However, with what little he could analyze information from the little things he could see.
For example, the recent movement of the Void...
Cedric wasn't behind the news. He was aware of the recent void expedition. Such a large movement couldn't be hidden from him, especially when he normally scans his surroundings out of habit.
He's also aware of what the Dragon Chancellor did, which was also the entire reason why the Void was rampaging. Well, it was... because recently, it seemingly stopped all of a sudden.
These past couple of weeks, it became an ordinary occurrence for everyone to feel the aftershocks of the Void trying to break that divine light protecting the realm. The first few times frightened them a bit, but after it happened a little too frequently with no other accidents happening afterwards, people began ignoring it and prioritizing their work instead.
Though this past few days, the aftershocks suddenly stopped. It usually happens once or twice a day, yet there was nothing recently.
Additionally, Cedric, with his impressive eyesight, could see the movement of the Void even from here. He couldn't see everything, but he could see enough to gauge its intensity.
Before, the density of the Void Air was too immense. So much so that he could see that pitch-black substance that was said to only be visible when one was close to the Heart of the Void.
Normal Void Air was colorless, or some would say, black and white. The one he saw previously was just pitch black. And even from a distance, it was enough to make him feel the Abyss staring back at him.
It was scary. It made Cedric feel a crisis unlike anything he had ever encountered before. The only saving grace he could hold onto was that seemingly thin yet extremely durable divine light preventing it from seeping into the realm. If it weren't for that, who knows just how much damage the realm would have had to endure by now?
And yet, these past few days, the scary abyss seemingly retreated. Cedric was able to see patches of null or the 'white' amongst the 'black.'. Which basically meant that the density of the Void Air was regressing.
Usually, this would be a great sign. It could mean that the void was done throwing tantrums about the death of the 'Prince,' and since this divine light that's protecting the realm was rumored to last for an entire year, they have a couple of months before it fades. And by then, the void should be safe to traverse once more.
That should be the case, but...
"I don't like this..."
Cedric just felt uncomfortable with all this.
He thinks that it's too simple...too easy.
Everything that happened so far pretty much proved that the Void had some level of sentience. To what degree? Who knows? But it's definitely intelligent. So much so that it grieved its loss and desired revenge, just like how living creatures would do.
And since that's the case, then the fact that it stopped just like thirsting for revenge, just like that, was highly suspicious.
This was the Void. It's the oldest entity around. It's even older than the Primordial Chaos itself. Its wrath isn't something that living creatures could endure.
Just by existing and barely trying, it was able to erode the Scarlet Division Wall, leaving it with holes where its minions could pass every now and then.
Sure, this Divine Light was good and all, being able to protect the realm and all that, but the Void isn't so simple either. As one of the oldest entities around, a year is but a blink of an eye to it.
If it truly mourned for the prince and desired vengeance, then it wouldn't have stopped trying to break the protection for merely three months. Three months was nothing to Cedric, even more so for the Void!
So, the fact that it suddenly stopped and seemingly returned deeper into its nest roused Cedric's suspicions and paranoia.
Cedric didn't believe, even for a second, that the Void would give up just like that. Something's amiss here, and something tells him that ignoring this was a bad idea.
But honestly, what can he do?
The divine light was a wall that goes both ways. It stopped the Void and the Primordial Chaos from intruding into the opposite party's territory. It completely isolated the two and was seemingly invincible.
Even if he were to volunteer to see what's happening in the void, there's no way he'd be able to do it until after the duration of the realm protection ends.
Moreover, he's weak and too valued by the camp to be sent out there. Yeah, those two things seem quite contradictory, but it's true.
Life Evolution-wise, Cedric hasn't even stepped into the Transitional Realm yet. Sure, he's close, but he won't make any breakthroughs before the realm protection ends.
On the other hand, his innate divine skill, All Speak, was too valuable for the Occult Decoding Team to risk him out there.
One has to know that if it weren't for Cedric's translations, nobody would've known the existence of the 'Prince.'. Nobody would know just how sentient the Void Creatures were, and surely, nobody could've guessed that the Void was planning to make a big move to swallow the entirety of the Primordial Chaos soon.
If it weren't for Cedric's translations, the Dragon Chancellor wouldn't have deliberately targeted the Heart of the Void and the Prince. The thought of attacking that place wouldn't have come to him in the first place. And if he hadn't done that, none of them would've seen how the Void responded, allowing them to witness its inherent sentience too.
Cedric's All Speak held too much value that it's already been decided that he would be protected. His inherent ability to understand the void on a subconscious level gave him a hidden edge in whatever was about to come. So, if it's not necessary at all, none of them would even allow him to go to the void.
Sigh!
Realizing that he's helpless, Cedric just sighed. In the end, he could only focus on things he could control.
The suspicious movement of the void was too big of a responsibility for him. For all intents and purposes, he's just a translator here, so there's really nothing he could do. Even expressing his opinions seemed unnecessary; the Chancellors and the Paragons weren't stupid, after all.
His focus should be on his training. The sooner he perfects his mastery over the Cosmic Furnace Spell, the sooner he could break through the Transitional Realm in Life Evolution.
Only with strength would his voice be louder. And only strength could ensure his safety in these troubled times.
His progress wasn't bad. Since his work schedule was relatively loose, he could spend more time training. And amongst the many privileges he had since becoming a translator, one of them was free mentorship.
Some of his mentors were paragons of the camp that could spare a moment of their time to share their valuable insights with him. This gave Cedric a broader perspective and more options to master the Cosmic Furnace Spell.
But insights are just that: insights. In the end, practice is the real way to master the spell, and practice takes time.
Even with Cedric's absurd comprehension skills, mastering the Cosmic Furnace Spell was still a challenge. But all things considered, his progress was already fast, amazingly so.
One has to know that some people might have to spend decades, if not centuries, before reaching his current level of mastery. And it's for this reason that some people settle for lower levels of mastery over the spell to risk the chance of breaking through.
In their opinion, if they couldn't master the Cosmic Furnace Spell even after so long, then they don't have the necessary potential to reach the cosmic level of life evolution. And thus, it's better to break through now rather than forcing it.
With Cedric's speed of learning and mastery over the spell, it could almost be said that he's guaranteed to reach the Cosmic Lord realm if he doesn't die prematurely.
Cedric could've gotten more privileges and benefits had he been more high-profile than this. After all, investing in a future Cosmic Lord was a worthwhile endeavor for most people.
But Cedric remained low-profile. Mostly because he's not really seeking attention. Besides, he's not that greedy for resources. The ones he's receiving right now, for free, were already more than enough for him.
Eating too much food can lead to a stomachache, and Cedric has never been someone who bites off more than he can chew.
With this, Cedric threw himself into training. And in his training, time passed by unknowingly...
