Exorcist in America

Chapter 412: Chapter 412: Desperation

In desperate times, desperate measures are called for.

For this rather unique world, the measures he took were naturally also special.

As for how special, that involved using these filthy, non-human things to filter out the normal humans for him.

After all, the world is so large, even though these filthy things outnumber humans by several times, even dozens of times, there are still many normal humans left.

Humans residing in various countries, when combined, totaled at least over a hundred million.

With so many humans mixed with a large number of filthy things, if he were to filter them out himself, when would he finish?

It was as difficult as sorting out a few hundred beans of the same color from a pile of sand and gravel.

York scanned the square, opening up a three-dimensional image and extending his perception, including x-ray vision, to envelop the entire crowd in the square.

One after another, individuals were filtered out by him.

Just from this square, among the tens of thousands visible to the naked eye, only a few hundred were normal humans.

To grasp the whole picture at a glance, one could imagine the situation with humans, as humanity in his previous life, whether in the real world or not, had reached a total number exceeding billions, whereas this world seemed to have just over a hundred million in total.

"In the fractured world, why are humans always plagued with disasters?" York wondered to himself.

This question had been on his mind since he arrived in this world, and he had pondered and studied it for a long time.

One world, two worlds, that was manageable, but if it was the same with a third world, then there was a problem.

From now on, he could be certain that behind every crack existing in the real world, this kind of scenario was what lay.

Humans were always the weaker party, always facing the crisis of extinction.

"Are there no gods or demons on the side of humanity?" York looked up at the clear blue sky, murmuring to himself.

"Uncle York, what are you thinking about?"

He was initially lost in thought, but Alyssa's words interrupted him. York withdrew his gaze and looked at Alyssa.

At this moment, because of licking ice cream, Alyssa's face was smeared with it.

"Nothing much." York smiled and gently wiped the ice cream off her face, speaking gently.

"Let's go, it's time to head to the island country."

"Okay, Uncle York!" Alyssa said cheerfully, extending her hand.

York took her hand, and the two of them, one big and one small, walked slowly toward the exit of the square.

However, just as they were leaving, two burly men in the crowd exchanged glances and followed behind them.

The two followed them out of the square and into an alley between a building and a shop.

"Where are they?"

Just as they followed, they realized their targets had suddenly vanished.

"Go!"

One of them sensed something, glanced outside, and through the alley's entrance saw their targets calmly walking past the alley and disappearing.

"They're outside!"

The two men immediately continued following, but just as they turned around, they suddenly felt an unstoppable force descend upon them.

In an instant, both men's eyes widened, and under each other's gaze, they were crushed by the invisible force.

Puff, puff!

Neither flesh nor organs were left behind, as if the two men had simply vanished, with only the blood sprayed around indicating what had happened.

Before long, someone from a nearby shop entered the alley and screamed upon discovering the scene.

The loud scream drew many people's attention.

Alyssa licked her ice cream, turned her head to look, and her face was filled with joy.

"Uncle York, what happened to those two men?"

York glanced at Alyssa, who obviously knew the answer, and succinctly replied, "They died. Filthy things need not be spared."

Alyssa seemed even happier and licked her ice cream again, letting York lead her across the street towards the still-open airport.

After the pair left, the screams at the scene intensified, mixed with a sense of fear.

"Fog!"

The blood-stained alley was already packed with onlookers.

Someone in the crowd noticed something and exclaimed in fear.

"It's fog! There's fog!"

His voice was filled with terror.

"It's the fog of doom!"

At these words, everyone stiffened, staring dreadfully at the shallow fog that suddenly rose from the blood pit.

——

Half a year later.

"The fog of doom, nobody knows where it comes from, nobody knows how it appears; it seems to materialize out of thin air, descending upon this world to punish all of us.

It's like a fog, showing no signs, yet it devours everything."

In a room with walls made entirely of special steel, everyone seated around a high table stared at an old man, faces grim.

"We've conducted countless studies, numerous experiments,

 all to no avail."

The old man faced the heads of various countries, expressionless, and continued to report on the latest research.

"So what exactly is it? What have you so-called experts figured out?" the President of the Free Nation asked gravely.

"You need to know that the sun never sets in the Empire, including France, the Free Nation, the island country, Pasia, Futba, Canada, Eucalyptus country, and the Goryeo highlands, and Ysraele among other countries have all fallen, enveloped by the fog of doom. If you don't figure out a solution soon, then the whole world will fall!"

The old man looked expressionlessly at all the leaders in front of him and suddenly smiled.

"Isn't this rather good? After all, you aren't human."

At these words, the faces of these leaders turned even paler, and there was no great surprise. The number of those damned people on the ships along with the growing number of vegetative humans.

Meanwhile.

This was no longer on the vast continents, not in buildings where everyone could protect each other, but on the confined space of small ships and boats.

In a fixed area, in a fixed circulating place, too much had been exposed, and these clever humans could no longer be deceived.

"The smaller the place, the sooner things get exposed."

"You wouldn't want your kind to truly go extinct, would you?" the President of the Free Nation stared at the old man, his eyes flickering with deep malice.

"You need to know we control everything in this world, all the ships, all the means of transportation, meaning we control the only way out for all you humans."

"It doesn't matter." The old man's expression remained unchanged, but his eyes were filled with sorrow.

"Although I don't know what you are, from those old people who move like zombies and the young people being taken away, it seems likely that you are parasites of our species. As long as we humans die, whether from old age, disease, or accidental deaths, you parasites will also die."

At this, the room fell silent.

The faces of all the leaders turned even paler, each of them desperately wanting to kill these damned beings.

But they couldn't. Now that they were about to move to the sea, space on the ships was limited and couldn't accommodate more of their kind, so these damned beings could also become their food. Who said only humans could be devoured? Their kind could be devoured just the same.

These leaders all had their thoughts. The President of the Free Nation scanned the room, his eyes dark, and finally fixed on the old man.

"Mr. Ashley, it seems you have already made up your mind."

The old man shrugged, his attitude carefree: "So you filthy things want to devour me too? But it seems you are quite stupid. It seems you can't inherit our human intelligence."

This comment was a critical hit, and the faces of the leaders turned even paler. The President of the Free Nation sighed and waved his hand, signaling the soldiers to take the old man away.

"Send all these useless, old humans into the fog of doom. Since they refuse to research, let them regret not studying when they are being devoured by the fog of doom."

"Yes, sir."

The soldier approached the old man to grab his hand, but the old man forcefully knocked his hand away.

"I can walk on my own."

Saying this, the old man stared at the apparently normal soldier, his expression slightly sad.

In his view, it was unfortunate that such a fine young man was controlled and usurped by something else.

But the soldier ignored the old man's words and forcefully grabbed his hand, dragging him away.

Eventually, only silence remained in the room.

The leaders remained quiet, each lost in their thoughts, until the President of the Free Nation broke the silence.

"Although there is no way to solve the fog of doom, in these people's research, sea water can block the invasion of the fog of doom, so this is not our doom."

At this, the faces of the leaders varied, looking at the President of the Free Nation.

"We may lose our land to the sea at our feet." The President of the Free Nation faced these gazes calmly.

"But there is one thing that can destroy our future, and that is those foolish people."

The President of the Free Nation paused, looked each leader in the eye one by one, and continued.

"I don't care what means you use, but I need you to control your people, to not harm the remaining humans. Otherwise, I will devour you one by one! After all, you can't go anywhere."

The room fell silent again, the invisible pressure filling the space.

Eventually, the leader of Canada nodded: "If possible, we could allocate a few ships as the main living spaces for humans, separating the two sides. First, let the humans recover. As long as we control the

number of women, we can live forever."

The President of the Free Nation nodded. "That's exactly what I was thinking. For the future of our species, from now on, human women will be off-limits. Whoever dares to take action, that person will be our common enemy, and we must tear that damned being to pieces!"

"I agree!" The leader of the island nation was the first to raise his hand.

With the first, there came a second, the leader of Goryeo raised his hand next.

"I agree."

"I agree."

"I agree."

One after another, they raised their hands.

The President of the Free Nation nodded in satisfaction.

——

Meanwhile.

A chaotic scene unfolded on the aircraft carrier.

One after another, old people were driven down to the smaller vessels below.

Before long, eight vessels packed with these densely packed old people headed toward the nearest continent.

"Mr. Ashley, do you regret it?"

As the representative chosen to reveal this matter, the old man turned to the voice beside him.

That was Mr. Diobia, a scientist of the same caliber, also in his seventies or eighties.

"Yes, I regret not discovering it sooner." Ashley said with a bitter smile.

"Who would have thought that we humans, who considered ourselves the masters of the world, would end up as food for some creatures."

"That's normal." Diobia consoled.

"Their behavioral rules are indeed too secretive. If it weren't for this particular time, probably no one would have discovered it. We've done our best, Mr. Ashley."

Ashley fell silent, his gaze unintentionally sweeping across, all he saw were white hairs.

On this crowded deck, he, a nearly eighty-year-old man, did not stand out at all.

"I dare not think about the future of those young people."

As he said this, even Diobia and the other old people around him fell silent.

With their wisdom, they could guess what the future of those young people would be like. Besides darkness, there were hardly any words to describe it. But they controlled themselves not to think about it, because thinking about it made them feel deeply hopeless, feeling utterly helpless.

"God!"

An old man murmured beside him.

"We devoutly worship You, Your power is infinite, You are omnipotent, You are our refuge. Please guide our path forward, please grant us a beautiful world, please give us wisdom and strength to face various challenges and difficulties. I am willing to give my life, just hoping You can protect those young people."

A physicist was seeking help from a seemingly non-existent God at this time, this intangible sadness began to linger around them.

But they really hoped that God truly existed and would save them.

However, the reality was cruel. A horn broke the silence, also shattering their illusions.

"Drive all these damned humans up."

Ashley and the others instinctively looked forward, realizing they had arrived at their destination, a vast port.

They knew where they were, the Port of Los Angeles, the largest container port in the Free Nation.

Looking up, a spectacular scene unfolded before them.

The sky was replaced by fog, from top to bottom, all shrouded in thick fog, nothing visible, blurred and dreamy like a surreal atmosphere that felt detached from reality.

As they approached the dock, which seemed like a dividing line between two worlds, separating one world of fog and another of clear blue sea, the vessels stopped before the dock. A gangway appeared, connecting the vessel and the fog of doom.

Everyone fell silent.

Only Ashley scanned around and then smiled.

"Let's go. I want to see what's inside this fog of doom, why everyone who enters disappears, why equipment fails, why all the missiles are lost, why it's blocked by seawater,

Don't you all wonder?"

At this, Diobia and others also smiled. Diobia looked at the overwhelming fog in front of him and replied.

"Not curious? Then how could we be scientists?"

"Then let's go. Waiting to be forcibly driven down by those non-human things? Even if we die, we shouldn't die at the hands of these things. Who knows what these things will do with our bodies."

Ashley smiled and took the lead, walking forward.

Diobia and others glanced at the soldiers gathering around and followed Ashley's steps, stepping onto the gangway and, under the watchful eyes of the soldiers on the deck, step by step, they entered the thick fog.
