Exorcist in America

Chapter 413: Chapter 413: Savior

A group of elderly people with white hair supported each other as they descended from one ship after another, walking into the dense fog that obscured the sky. The scene was quite spectacular.

A cruiser positioned centrally caught particular attention. A group of individuals stood in the ship's bridge atop a high tower, observing the gathering of elderly people organizing themselves within the mist.

Among these individuals, someone spoke up, "Commander, should we not—"

The leader, a middle-aged man with a determined face dressed in a naval uniform, turned and gave a cold look to the speaker, chillingly asking, "Are you suggesting we defy the orders of the higher-ups?"

"Of course not!" The speaker immediately broke out in a cold sweat. In their group, danger didn't only come from death or human retaliation, but from within their own ranks. He regretted his words almost instantly.

Fortunately, the middle-aged man said nothing more, simply turning back to look out the window at the elderly gathering together.

The truth was that there were more elderly than those seen here. Most who resisted boarding the ships had been killed and thrown to the fish.

The elderly present knew the truth, and their last usefulness was to leave behind images.

To shoot them? That would be a waste of bullets. It was better to film these elderly as they walked into the doom-laden fog, a terrifying sight.

With that in mind, the middle-aged man glanced at a corner of the deck where someone had already set up a camera to record everything.

After a while, the middle-aged man turned to leave.

"Let's head back."

---

The pervasive mist hung over the vast docks where a group of people shouted.

"Everyone stick together!"

"Even if death lies ahead, we will face it together."

"Come! Come over here!"

Ashley and Diobia, by virtue of their stature, naturally assumed leadership.

Their involvement in studying the doom fog had been broadcast live more than once.

Thus, the other elderly people, also herded to their deaths, complied and gathered together.

This was perhaps an instinct of human nature. Humans are highly social beings, and their behavior fits the characteristics of group-living animals.

Although some may yearn for a solitary life, in real reality, almost no one can completely detach from society and exist as an individual.

So, at such a time, no one would choose to walk into the dense fog alone; instead, they would instinctively choose to stick together, much like the ancestors of humankind.

Thus, the calls from Ashley and Diobia were successful, and soon all the elderly gathered together.

This reassured Ashley and Diobia, who had heard that the fog could kill, that it could devour anyone who entered—as nearly all teams that went in to explore had vanished. But before entering, they too did not wish to die.

A siren wailed, capturing everyone's attention.

Then, a burst of gunfire rang out abruptly, with bullets hitting the sea in the ensuing chaos.

"Let's go."

Seeing this clear signal to move, Ashley calmly spoke, understanding their intent.

In other words: If they didn't leave now, the next shots would be aimed at them, not the tranquil blue sea.

Diobia and others nodded in agreement.

Taking a deep breath, Ashley looked towards the impenetrable, all-white fog and loudly suggested, "To prevent getting lost or separated, I recommend everyone hold hands and walk together!"

He said this as he and others like Diobia took each other's hands.

His example led the others to also link hands.

Ashley glanced back, seeing the faces of the silent elderly, and sighed.

"Let's move!"

With that, he led the way, followed by Diobia and others, into the fog.

The elderly silently followed.

The sound of gunfire that marked their departure hit the docks they had just left, sparking bursts of sparks.

At the end of the gun salute were the ships that watched them go.

---

"This fog seems no different from normal fog," someone remarked.

"Before the doom fog appeared, I had been enveloped in dense fog. It felt just like it does now."

Hearing this, Ashley, Diobia, and others, who had entered the fog first, did not stop to do nothing. Their scientific instincts still prompted them to analyze.

Strands of fog, as fine as silk, swirled around them. The air was cold, the breeze slightly chilly, growing stronger and even a bit biting.

"Haven't we already analyzed its composition?" Ashley, feeling the sensation of being in the doom fog, looked thoughtfully at Diobia and others as he spoke resignedly.

"The components are no different from ordinary fog, so naturally, the experience feels the same."

Diobia glanced back at the figures shrouded in fog, barely visible, and nodded in agreement.

"Indeed, if there's any difference, it's perhaps that unusual energy fluctuation."

He smiled. "All those exploration teams disappeared, and I

thought there might be some gigantic creature devouring people inside."

Ashley nodded, instinctively walking forward while holding Diobia's hand, taking a small device from his pocket.

"Sure enough, no signals. This strange energy naturally blocks all electronic signals, no wonder there's no news from exploration teams."

Ashley sighed, putting away his phone and looking towards the unknown ahead.

"But since no one has come out for so many years, there probably really is some kind of monster that eats people."

"Perhaps," Diobia agreed.

"So, we'd better stick together."

"Yes." Ashley agreed, looking back at the closely following elderly, slowing his pace.

Thus, under the guidance of these intelligent individuals, the group of elderly maintained a steady speed, advancing securely.

Although they couldn't see any scenery clearly, the outlines of distant buildings and the vague shapes of tall structures loomed like immobile giants. They could make out their way, still hand in hand, moving past the dock towards farther places.

What puzzled them, however, was that the doom fog, which was said to devour everything, showed no signs of activity—no monsters, no shadows, no danger, no death.

Only a deathly stillness.

Even though they had been walking in the dense fog for a long time and had moved quite a distance, this calm stirred some restlessness among the group and added to the confusion of leaders like Ashley and Diobia.

They had envisioned all scenarios, yet none seemed to manifest.

"It seems there really is some secret in the doom fog," Ashley remarked as he looked towards a corner of the city's silhouette.

"It's probably not as simple as we thought."

The others nodded.

"Where did all those exploration teams go then?" Diobia looked around at the ethereal fog, murmuring subconsciously.

"Let's keep going and see. Let's head into the city for a rest," Ashley suggested, gazing ahead at the barely visible city hub emerging from the fog.

"Alright."

The group continued forward, still in deadly silence, the only change being that the temperature began to rise again, returning to its original warmth.

The damp sensation disappeared, and breathing gradually returned to normal.

This change left Ashley and Diobia somewhat bewildered.

A completely illogical event had occurred.

They continued forward.

But before they could reach the city's edge, the most noticeable change occurred: the dense fog began to thin.

"This..."

This change stirred an even greater commotion among the group.

Ashley and Diobia, the scientists, exchanged glances and urged the elderly to catch up and quickened their pace.

Their scientific intuition told them that entering the city would bring about a significant change.

As they drew closer, the fog gradually thinned, and they discovered something astonishing.

All the fog dissipated.

The city and surrounding environment instantly returned to normal, presenting an incredible scene that left them dumbfounded.

The clear cityscape before them, with a group of people standing there as if they had been waiting all along.

Hand in hand, Ashley, Diobia, and the elderly behind them were completely stunned, unsure of what they were witnessing.

"Are we dead? Is this heaven?"

But the person who emerged from the crowd made them widen their eyes in disbelief.

"Isn't that the long-missing Senator Dino Lebrun?" Ashley asked, somewhat bewildered. Even as one of the most intelligent humans, he couldn't fully grasp the current situation.

Senator Lebrun's face showed obvious relief and barely concealed excitement:

"Mr. Ashley, Mr. Diobia, you've finally arrived! We've been waiting for you for a long time!"

This large group was among the smartest of humanity, representing a treasure trove of human intellect, ensuring that technological evolution would not suddenly stall, preventing a technological dark age that could set humanity back by centuries.

Ashley and Diobia were truly perplexed, instinctively asking, "What... What's going on? What happened?"

"That's a long story," Senator Lebrun glanced at the bewildered elderly, exhaling lightly.

"Let's get you settled first, then I'll explain everything."

---

"Uncle York, it looks like they've herded everyone onto those ships," Alyssa said.

On the deck of a yacht, clad in shorts and a t-shirt, she looked towards the distance.

York, who had been absent for some time, was sitting on a stool, holding a fishing rod, his eyes fixed on the suddenly moving float. With one swift motion, he lifted it up.

A large tuna leapt from the water, displaying its graceful form before diving back into the ocean.

"Let's start then, separating humans and the filthy things."

York reeled in his line, indifferent to the fish that had escaped his hook, and unlike a typical fisherman, he didn't slap his thigh or sigh in disappointment.

"And later tonight, we'll invite everyone to a real fireworks show."

"Okay!"

Alyssa exclaimed excitedly, standing on the deck

with her arms spread wide. The dense fog appeared out of nowhere, covering the sky and the sea like a natural disaster.

York watched the sudden appearance of the fog over the sea, a sight both spectacular and terrifying, and couldn't help but marvel.

Alyssa's power had grown stronger, having absorbed everything from this world, her control extending to every inch of this realm. Her power had become more terrifying, the scope of her control expanding continuously, breaking through the limits of her strength.

Now, Alyssa's world could manifest without any prerequisites, descending directly to crush her adversaries.

In her world, she was the sovereign, capable of everything.

Aside from her own world, Alyssa was indeed the ruler of this fractured world.

Watching the scene unfold, York cast his fishing line again, sending the bait-less hook into the sea, murmuring to himself.

"It's finally coming to an end."

Saying this, York felt the weight of his long, thoughtful effort. He had spent so much time in this world just to filter out humanity, using Alyssa's power to create an apocalyptic vision on land and simulate the fog being blocked by the sea.

Forcing everyone to flee the land and retreat to the vast sea.

The critical point was coming. When not all could board the available ships and boats, what would the elites do?

The answer was that they would select the strong and abandon the weak.

For those who considered themselves rulers, the weak were naturally the humans they deemed as food.

Thus, apart from the select few human elites chosen by them, the vast majority of ordinary humans and weaker members of their own kind were abandoned.

This was exactly what York had planned, letting the filthy things help him sift through the rubble to find the beans of the same color.

"It's like something out of an apocalypse movie," York thought, watching the bobbing float.

"In the apocalypse, ordinary people are abandoned, and the elites get the tickets to survive."

"Uncle York!" Alyssa ran over, sitting beside him, looking at the still float.

"What are you talking about?"

York looked at her, her eyes sparkling brightly. Honestly, he was truly grateful for Alyssa; without her, completing his mission would have meant the deaths of many innocents.

Looking at the fog enveloping the surroundings, York smiled.

"I'm wondering, after we leave this world, will they see us as monsters or saviors?"
