Chapter 298: Ch 298 : Ed's Resolve
Boom!
Several different types of weapons hurled toward Erza, their sharp whistling sounds sending a chill through the air.
Faced with Reign's aggressive attack, Erza remained unfazed.
She activated the full power of her Heavenly Wheel Armor, and countless floating swords met the oncoming barrage.
The two forces collided with a series of clashing metal sounds.
Afterward, all of Erza's swords were knocked to the ground, while one of Reign's magical weapons pierced through the swords, grazing Erza's cheek and causing a few strands of red hair to flutter.
"Is this all you've got? You didn't think your cheap, makeshift swords would stop my noble phantasms, did you, Fairy Queen?" Reign smirked, a mocking smile curling on his lips.
He applied slight pressure with his hand, causing the purple weapons behind him to glow with a sharp, menacing light.
"If this is all you've got, then the upcoming battle will be rather boring."
Erza slightly furrowed her brow, realizing that Reign's words weren't just boasting.
The previous probe had given her a clearer understanding of his strength.
Reign was stronger than she had anticipated.
She silently acknowledged in her heart that with just the Heavenly Wheel Armor, she wouldn't be able to match his power.
Sighing, Erza withdrew the Heavenly Wheel Armor and instantly donned the Flying Armor, propelling herself forward with great force, like an arrow released from its bow, charging directly at Reign.
"Oh, you want to close the distance?"
Reign immediately understood Erza's intent and his expression hardened slightly.
"Hmph, very wise, but a little too naive."
With a whoosh, dozens of weapons were hurled simultaneously toward the rapidly advancing Erza.
Her pupils constricted instantly, and she leaped into the air, spinning her body to avoid most of the weapons.
With swift precision, her dual swords swatted away the remaining projectiles, maintaining her momentum as she charged straight at Reign.
A slight smirk curled on Reign's lips.
Suddenly, a faint but unmistakable sound echoed, and Erza's forward momentum came to an abrupt halt, as though she had been caught in a spider's web, unable to move.
Erza's expression froze as she turned to look behind her, only to see strange chains stretching out from the void, binding her entire body.
"What... is this?"
"[Chains of the Gods]," Reign said indifferently, his hand slowly extending.
"Even among my noble phantasms, this is one of the most important. These chains have the power to seal the strength of any person—or any living being."
Erza's expression remained tense, and Reign continued, his voice devoid of emotion.
"You didn't think I'd be unprepared for my weaknesses, did you?"
"It was just a small test," Erza replied, then suddenly exerted her strength, creating a small gap in the chains.
Taking the opportunity, she twisted her body and distanced herself from Reign.
After landing, Erza looked at him and said, "You're truly powerful. No wonder you're one of the Seven Thrones..."
"Are you saying you want to surrender?"
"Impossible."
The light on Erza's body flickered, and when the radiance faded, the Demon Blade, Benizakura, appeared in her hand.
She held it horizontally in front of her, coldly staring at Reign.
"I just want to say, even if you're stronger than I imagined, I will still defeat you."
"Arrogant!" Reign scoffed coldly.
The weapons behind him shifted slightly, and a dozen or so of his noble phantasms shot toward Erza.
Erza took a deep breath and raised the Demon Blade, Benizakura.
Boom.
The flash of the blade cut through the air.
An explosion echoed.
...............
"Go this way."
In a corridor of the Dark Demon Castle, Ishu led the way while Ed followed closely behind, his gaze constantly scanning the surroundings.
After Garlos subtly separated him and the others, Ed had heightened his vigilance in his heart.
The two of them walked for a few minutes before entering a massive circular room.
Ishu suddenly stopped.
"What's wrong, Ishu-san?" Ed, initially thinking it might be an enemy attack, glanced around to make sure there was no threat.
After realizing everything seemed fine, he looked at Ishu in confusion, only to be slightly surprised to find Ishu with a distant look in his eyes, staring at the room in front of him with a nostalgic expression.
"It's nothing, just... a bit of sentiment," Ishu came back to his senses after hearing Ed's question, a bittersweet smile unconsciously appearing on his lips.
"It's the first time I've returned here since I left, and yet, nothing has changed."
"..." Ed remained silent.
Although he didn't understand what was going on, the sorrow and determination in Ishu's aura made Ed hesitate to ask any further questions.
"Although nothing has changed, this place no longer belongs to you, Ishu."
A cold, indifferent male voice echoed, and both Ed and Ishu looked up to see a brown-haired man standing at the door on the opposite side of the room, his arms crossed as he silently observed them.
"Garlos." Ishu softly spoke the name of the newcomer.
"In this situation, should I say, welcome back?" Garlos glanced around the room before locking his gaze back onto Ishu.
"The matter with the temple, you really outwitted yourself," Ishu didn't answer Garlos' words directly but instead brought up the issue of the resurrection of the Light Temple.
"That was to be expected. Rather, it's incredibly naive of you to think you could have hidden the resurrection of the Light Temple from us. You were bound to be outwitted, and moreover, you don't even understand the details of our Master's intentions, yet you arrogantly believed you could change a situation that was already set in stone. You were far too full of yourself."
"Yes, I truly overestimated myself," Ishu said with a decisive nod, a soft smile forming at the corner of his mouth as he spoke.
"But there are some things that, even if you know you can't achieve them, you must still try to do."
"...." Garlos stared deeply at Ishu, who seemed so carefree, falling silent.
"Ed." At that moment, Ed suddenly heard a barely noticeable voice from Ishu.
Ed looked at Ishu's back, slightly furrowing his brows, and let out a low hum. "Hmm?"
"I'll hold Garlos off for a moment. You need to get out of the fight as quickly as possible and head deeper inside."
"Why?"
"If I weren't injured, I'd still have a chance against Garlos with you. But with my current condition, I can hardly sustain any more high-intensity combat. So, we have no chance of winning. I'll try to stall him, and you need to get out of here quickly."
Ed glanced at Garlos in the distance. "Is he really that strong?"
"Yes, he's someone who, without being injured, once killed the fifth-ranked of the Ten Saint Mage of the Magic Council," Ishu said, his voice tinged with an undeniable seriousness.
Before Ed could respond, Ishu immediately charged at Garlos and released a [North Wind of the Gods].
The roaring black gale seemed as though it could tear apart everything in front of it.
The same move, when used by Ishu, was far more powerful than when Sherria had used it.
Yet, even with such a formidable attack, it passed right through Garlos the moment it made contact, causing him no harm whatsoever.
"Alright, this should buy some time..." Ishu had just thought this when a white laser suddenly shot out from behind him, crashing directly into Garlos, who had just materialized his body.
Garlos was forced to leap backward to avoid the attack.
"What?" Ishu turned in shock to see Ed standing there with a faint smile on his face.
"Sorry, Ishu-san," Ed said.
"I absolutely won't run away without fighting. And as for my strength, you haven't truly seen it yet."
