Chapter 299: Ch 299 : Dance of Death
"I absolutely won't let you continue doing whatever you please."
Jellal looked at the opposing Luther and spoke in a calm voice.
"Former member of the Ten Wizard Saints, huh. Interesting, but also a troublesome opponent. Why couldn't someone else have run into him? Like Dylan or someone, and then they could fight to a draw or something, and I could just swoop in and take the position."
Luther rolled his eyes, ignoring Jellal as he muttered to himself.
The three members of Crime Sorciere fell silent at the sight.
The corner of Jellal's mouth twitched almost imperceptibly, and then he said, "Hey, did you even hear what I said?"
"Yes, yes, troublesome guy." Luther raised his gun and lightly tapped his head with it, looking impatient.
"Whatever. I guess this might actually be kind of fun. The three of you should just come at me together."
"So confident?" Ultear furrowed her brows slightly.
Just now, Luther had called out their names and origins, which showed he clearly knew who they were—and likely had a good grasp of their abilities.
And yet, even so, he still had the confidence to take on all three at once.
That made Ultear instinctively raise her guard.
"Because dealing with you one by one is too much of a hassle."
Luther replied as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"..." The three members of Crime Sorciere were momentarily speechless.
"Well then, I'll begin." Luther said casually, raising his twin guns.
"[Gun Technique: First Style – Rapid Fire]."
With both pistols firing simultaneously, bullets streamed out in a relentless barrage.
At the same time, Luther rapidly retreated—following the fundamental rule every gunner abides by: keep your distance from your enemy.
And Luther embodied this principle to perfection.
Shooting accurately while on the move, and moving swiftly while shooting.
Dealing continuous blows to the enemy while maintaining distance—this was the fighting style of a gunner who wielded magic bullets.
Although Ultear's Arc of Time could somewhat counter Luther's bullet magic, the sheer number of bullets flying in from every angle with pinpoint accuracy was overwhelming even for her.
Jellal and the others found themselves in a frantic scramble, narrowly dodging Luther's deadly, precise shots as they were driven into a momentary disarray.
"[Radiance of the Gods]." Ultear raised her crystal orb, and multiple 'future' orbs swiftly emerged, each one releasing a brilliant beam of light to intercept Luther's attack.
The two forces collided continuously, creating a brief stalemate.
Ultear shouted toward Jellal, "Now's your chance, Jellal!"
"[Meteor]."
With a low cry, Jellal was instantly enveloped in a soft golden aura of magic.
His entire body shot forward like a real meteor, weaving nimbly through the crossfire as he closed in on Luther.
"Quite agile... but far too careless."
Luther's lips curled into a cold smile as he raised his twin black-and-white pistols.
"[Gun Technique: Second Style – Curved Shot]."
With a powerful motion, Luther's right arm pulled back, contorting to an almost impossible angle.
It looked like a tightly drawn whip ready to snap.
His eyes sharpened into needle-like slits from intense focus, as his mind rapidly calculated every possible environmental factor and trajectory change around him.
Then—he swung his arm, twisted his wrist, and fired.
His body spun along with the movement.
Bang. Bang.
Bullets were fired in succession—but not toward Jellal and the others in front of him.
Jellal furrowed his brow in confusion as he watched Luther fire seemingly at random.
"What is he doing?"
Luther didn't respond.
He continued to spin, swing, and shoot—his movements elegant and fluid, like a graceful dance.
Though Jellal didn't understand what Luther was aiming at, he still descended to the ground, magic energy surging around him as he prepared to strike.
"[Heavenly Ladder Magic: Grand Chariot…]"
"Jellal, watch out!!"
Just as Jellal was about to unleash his Grand Chariot, a sharp whoosh cut through the air behind him—and at the same time, Meredy's voice rang out in warning.
Before Jellal could even register what was happening, a searing pain exploded across his back.
As Jellal turned around, he immediately realized that what had just hit him was unmistakably a magic bullet.
"A bullet? Where did it come from?"
Before he could figure it out, he quickly moved from his position—just in time, as several more magic bullets struck the spot where he had just stood.
"Could it be...?" Jellal looked up.
The strangely angled shots had also thrown Meredy and Ultear into disarray.
Ultear's [Radiance of the Gods], with its rather rigid beams of light, was clearly incapable of blocking Luther's erratically angled bullets.
The three of them were overwhelmed, struggling just to dodge, unable to counterattack at all.
In less than half a minute, Luther had fired hundreds, perhaps thousands of bullets.
Jellal, Ultear, and Meredy barely managed to evade wave after wave of incoming bullets—when suddenly, something happened that left all three of them almost in disbelief.
Luther stopped spinning and firing.
Instead, he simply raised one arm—and fired a single shot with his white pistol at a seemingly random angle.
And then…
Time itself seemed to slow down.
Every single bullet Luther had fired began to interact with that final shot—colliding, one after another, in a precise and orchestrated chain reaction.
Continuous impacts.
Continuous deflections.
A cascade of bullet-on-bullet collisions filled the air.
At that moment, Jellal and the other two finally realized that—without even noticing—it had somehow become a battlefield filled with countless bullets surrounding them.
Every second, bullets were colliding midair, and with every breath they took, an unending stream of bullets came flying toward them, continuously shrinking their space to evade.
"This is… impossible!!!"
Arzak, who was sitting wounded to the side, saw the scene and his face suddenly drained of all color, going pale as if he were hallucinating.
He muttered in disbelief.
"It's actually the [Bullet Domain: Dance of Death]… Isn't that the legendary ultimate gunman technique that no one's ever managed to master?"
Bisca spoke in a daze, then as if snapping back to reality, she shouted to Jellal and the others, "You have to find a way to break through! The longer it drags on, the harder it'll be to escape!"
Hearing Bisca's warning, Jellal gave a bitter smile.
With his insight, he could naturally tell that things were heading in a dangerous direction.
If escaping had been an option—they would've done it already.
But by now, the three of them were trapped in an endless barrage of bullets.
If they tried to break through recklessly, they'd end up as cold corpses before even making it out.
So, even though Jellal knew how dire the situation was, the only thing they could do now was regroup and do their best to hold off Luther's onslaught.
"It's useless. Once the Dance of Death begins, no one escapes alive."
Luther said, his voice calm to the point of cold indifference, as he watched the three opponents struggling helplessly within the confines of his domain.
From time to time, he would casually fire a shot in some random direction, and every bullet would instantly adjust its trajectory to once again surround the trio.
None of the bullets ever struck Luther himself, despite some occasionally grazing close—never a single hit landed, as if Luther were orchestrating them.
It was as though he were conducting the bullets, performing a dazzling yet merciless ballet—a deadly art form that both captivated and destroyed.
