Chapter 141: Chapter 142: Charles’ Ability Stats
Hephaestus pricked her finger with a long needle, and a drop of divine blood fell onto Charles's back.
As she drew the divine emblem, a symbol identical to the one hanging over the mansion—flames entwined with a hammer—emerged on Charles's back, glowing with radiant characters. These shimmering letters were the manifestation of the Falna, the divine contract granted to mortals through a god's blood.
Just as Charles had described, the outward expression of the Falna resembled a player's stat panel from a video game.
The radiant text was sacred script, decipherable only by gods, and it contained the data that quantified Charles's capabilities.
Facing away from Hephaestus, Charles couldn't see what was happening behind him. He could only feel a strange power seeping from the symbol on his back into his very being.
His entire body felt like it was transforming, yet at the same time, nothing seemed to change at all.
After that, there was no more movement. Charles started to wonder why Hephaestus hadn't said anything—then he sensed a wave of emotional turbulence from the goddess behind him.
Now Charles was truly curious. What had the goddess seen that left her so shaken?
Ever since meeting Hephaestus, Charles's usual ability to read people's presence had been ineffective on her. He couldn't sense any personal information from her at all.
It wasn't surprising—she was a god, after all.
But now that he could clearly feel her emotional fluctuations, it meant she was truly shocked.
"Goddess, is it not done yet?" Charles spoke up.
Hephaestus realized her slip and coughed lightly. "Apologies. It's just that your stats are... astonishing."
As she spoke, she pressed a sheet of paper to Charles's back and moved her fingers over it. The divine script was translated into the common language and copied onto the paper.
"All right! Take a look for yourself."
She handed him the paper with a smile. Judging by her expression, having such a monstrous genius join her Familia had clearly made her very happy.
Charles took the sheet and read:
Charles Dragneel

Now Charles understood why Hephaestus had been so rattled. These numbers didn't just stand out—they shattered every preconceived limit the gods had about mortal adventurers.
Hephaestus spoke seriously. "You probably don't realize what these stats mean. If other gods saw this, it could very well spark a war."
She wasn't exaggerating in the slightest. It was entirely possible.
Relations between gods were far from harmonious, and the relationships between Familia were tangled and complex.
Though there were alliances and collaborations, those were born of mutual interest or goals. Normally, Familia of similar types were competitors. This world, which outwardly appeared to be one of passionate adventure, hid shadows darker than one might imagine.
To any Familia, talent was the ultimate asset. Gods like Apollo and Freya, known for their obsession with desire, had already used underhanded methods multiple times to seize people they set their eyes on.
If they saw Charles's stats, even Hephaestus would have a hard time dealing with what might come.
Charles, however, had already expected this kind of power, so he appeared calm. Hephaestus thought he simply didn't understand the implications and thus felt obligated to explain.
"For adventurers, talent and combat prowess are most directly expressed through magic and skills.
"Normally, when a person first receives the Falna, they have no magic or skills. Even after leveling up, it's rare to awaken any."
Charles realized he had never properly understood how rare magic and skills were.
He had always surrounded himself with named characters who had magic and skills, but in Orario, most adventurers were just nameless individuals at level 1 or 2.
Many didn't even have magic slots, meaning they had no aptitude for magic whatsoever.
Hephaestus continued, "Take Finn from Loki Familia—when he first joined, he awakened one magic and two skills. Even with that, he was hailed as a once-in-a-century prodigy.
"But you have two magic and two skills. One is an unprecedented chantless magic, and the other... even I can't interpret."
She shook her head slightly.
"To my knowledge, no one compares to you. If I had to name someone, perhaps only her—the one known as the 'Embodiment of Talent'—might come close."
Charles guessed that the one untranslatable magic was his World Magic. After all, gods couldn't cross into other worlds.
And ever since receiving the Falna, his grimoire had been reacting strangely. He'd have to examine it later when he was alone.
As for the chantless Dragon Slayer Magic, that was also considered unusual in this world.
Here, most magic required chanting. That was why magic was categorized as long-chant, short-chant, and ultra-short-chant.
Long-chant spells were massive area-of-effect attacks with immense power, but they took time and required allies to cover the caster. Shorter chants required less time but were naturally less powerful.
There was also swift-cast magic, like Bell's [Firebolt], which could almost be cast instantly.
Charles's Dragon Slayer Magic was based on using draconic power itself. Even abilities like his Dragon Force mode were offshoots of that power. That's why his status screen only displayed this chantless magic.
In combat, not having to split your focus to chant was a major advantage.
What intrigued Charles most was the "Embodiment of Talent" that Hephaestus mentioned.
That person was Alfia, known by the title "Silence," and a prodigy who had even awed the gods.
Before Loki and Freya Familia rose to power, Orario had been ruled by the Zeus and Hera Familia.
Back then, the current Twin Kings of Orario didn't hold a candle to those two legendary Familia.
The Zeus Familia had once produced two level 8 adventurers. The Hera Familia, though lacking any known level 8s, had a level 9 adventurer—an empress who could be considered half a god.
It was likely due to this overwhelming strength that those two Familia were confident enough to undertake the Three Great Quests issued by the gods.
These were the slaying of the three legendary monsters that had ravaged the world since the age of the gods.
Zeus and Hera Familia successfully defeated Behemoth and Leviathan. But when they challenged the last one—the One-Eyed Black Dragon—they were wiped out.
Only after that did the current Twin Kings, Loki and Freya Familia, rise to prominence.
Alfia had belonged to the Hera Familia. She was able to fight the level 9 Empress of her own Familia head-on when she was still just level 7—a peerless genius.
She possessed three powerful and practical magic spells.
But what truly made her stand out was not just that. Though she was a rear-line magic user, she often fought as a front-line warrior.
Even more unbelievable—no warrior could beat her in close combat.
Why? Because Alfia's talent was overwhelming. Any technique or skill she witnessed, she could master with just a glance.
Her most legendary feat was during the battle against Leviathan, when she obliterated the beast using a massive area-of-effect spell in a single strike.
In Hephaestus's eyes, Charles had no less potential than Alfia.
"And your base stats are also insane. EX? Beyond the scale? You're the only person I've ever seen with numbers like that.
"Normally, a new adventurer's stats all start at I-0. It's like your power is overriding the Falna itself."
In this world, stats were ranked from I to S across ten tiers. Only the most elite adventurers could push a single attribute to S. For most, A was the realistic ceiling.
Upon leveling up, stats reset to zero, so an adventurer's true power was the sum of their stats across all levels.
So, if someone reached level 2 after maxing strength at S-1000, and then trained up to another S-1000, their true strength would be 2000.
Even though Charles was still level 1, his stats already surpassed a level 6 adventurer who maxed out S-rank at every level.
The kicker? No one in current-day Orario had ever hit S in every stat per level. Not even Freya's Ottar could guarantee numbers higher than Charles.
Now that Charles understood his own power level, his next concern was how to acquire a Development Ability.
