Fairy Tail: Igneel's eldest son in Anime Multiverse

Chapter 190: Chapter 190: Test and Battle

The root of the monsters on the 59th floor had been the Fallen Fairy's clone. Once Charles purified her, most of the remaining monsters collapsed and scattered.

His main objective complete—and with the unexpected reward of a fairy's blessing—Charles began the journey back in high spirits.

After resting overnight on the 50th floor to regain his strength, he made his way swiftly back to the middle levels.

18th floor, the adventurer town of Rivira.

Charles didn't linger here just for leisure; Far had once again sensed the aura of a Fallen Fairy. However, the energy was so faint and scattered that Far couldn't pinpoint the exact location.

Thinking back to the plot, Charles recalled that, besides the white-haired specter he had slain, there were two other "hybrid-type" monsters who were once human—Mask Man and the red-haired woman Revis. Together with the specter, these three were responsible for collaborating with the Evilus faction and smuggling the embryo-like gems to the surface.

Since he hadn't encountered them on the 59th floor, it was likely the remaining two were operating somewhere in the middle levels.

What Charles didn't know was whether they were aware that the Fallen Fairy's clone had already been purified.

He wandered around Rivira but found no sign of the two. Still, he wasn't obsessed with finding them immediately—it wasn't worth the hassle.

However, he did notice something unusual: in Bors's store, there was a long cloth-wrapped bundle marked with the Loki Familia's crest.

From Bors, Charles learned that it was a trophy of Ais's.

Apparently, just a few days ago, Ais had single-handedly defeated Udaeus, the Lonely King of the lower labyrinth. She had likely already leveled up to LV6.

Not only that, but Charles also received new intel. In addition to the known drop materials, Udaeus could also drop a rare item called Udaeus's Black Sword.

According to speculation, if the number of participants in the battle was limited below a certain threshold, Udaeus would change its combat behavior and pull out a massive sword. If defeated under these conditions, the special black sword material would drop.

The exact threshold wasn't yet known, but soloing it like Ais did clearly met the criteria.

Charles suddenly remembered that in the future, a weapon named Tyrant Black Sword would dethrone the Magna Aegis, one of the top five supreme staffs, currently priced at 340 million valis and wielded by Riveria.

Granted, the Magna Aegis had been acquired by Loki at an insanely discounted price, and the calculation didn't include the embedded magic stones.

Even so, the Tyrant Black Sword, based solely on the Gubnir Familia's "labor fee," had a listed value of 410 million valis.

And the raw material for that Tyrant Black Sword? None other than Udaeus's Black Sword. After hearing of Ais's feat, Ottar would later solo the boss himself and forge the legendary blade from the drop.

The blacksmith's soul within Charles trembled. He began plotting to beat Ottar to it—take down Udaeus himself and test the legendary crafting material that had required the Gubnir Familia's top smiths working together.

But as luck—or irony—would have it, the second piece of news from Bors was also about Ottar.

Some adventurers who had reached the 18th floor said they'd seen Ottar in the middle levels.

Why the strongest adventurer in Orario would be hanging around the middle levels puzzled everyone.

But Charles did some quick mental math and figured it out.

After Bell had nearly been killed by a Minotaur and was left traumatized, Freya sent Ottar into the dungeon to capture one for training—intending it to be Bell's first true "heroic feat," so that his light would shine without blemish.

Charles wondered if Ottar had already found the one Minotaur rumored to be the "bull girl" in her past life.

At this moment, Charles felt extremely grateful that his goddess wasn't as whimsical as a certain other one. Though he did sympathize with Bell—he gave a silent prayer on his behalf.

But then fate reminded Charles not to jinx himself.

On the 15th floor, he found himself face-to-face with a large, blade-wielding boar-man.

He initially thought it was a coincidence. But when Ottar moved to block his path, it became clear this wasn't just a chance encounter.

Charles frowned and said, "Mighty warrior of Freya Familia, I don't recall us being on such friendly terms that you can just greet me on the road. You're in my way."

Ottar replied, "Charles of Hephaestus Familia—I was waiting for you."

Charles's frown deepened. From what he remembered of Ottar's character, the man was not one to pick fights for no reason. His only priorities were getting stronger and fulfilling Freya's orders.

Which meant this was likely her doing.

Ottar drew the massive blade from his back and vanished from sight.

Charles immediately activated Dragon Slayer and Evil Dragon, catching the descending blade with a bare hand.

Sparks flared as metal screeched against the scaled gauntlet.

"What's the meaning of this?" Charles asked coldly.

Ottar's attack was nothing short of a declaration of war—and Charles wasn't the type to let that slide.

"A test," Ottar replied calmly, as if ambushing someone was no big deal.

Charles laughed grimly, his voice turning icy. "A test? Because you're Orario's only LV7?"

With that, Charles tightened his gauntleted fingers. Flames licked the scales, and the edge of the captured greatsword turned red-hot before melting into slag.

Ottar stepped back, glanced at the now handle-only weapon, and casually tossed it aside.

"Oh? So this is your fairy power? Still… it's not enough to meet Her expectations."

It was the first time Ottar had spoken so many words. But Charles wasn't in the mood to listen.

Instead of drawing his backup weapon, Ottar charged barehanded.

Charles dismissed his armaments too—ready to fight hand-to-hand. As angry as he was about the ambush, he had long wanted to test himself against Orario's ultimate weapon.

Ottar's power was raw and straightforward. Except for his Magic stat, all his base abilities had long surpassed the S-rank limit.

His magic, Hildis Vini, was never shown in the original plot, so its effect remained a mystery.

But his two passive skills were beyond question.

Beastmen could awaken skills like Bete's "Moon Howl," transforming into beast forms for explosive stat boosts. However, these skills usually came with restrictions—Bete's, for example, required moonlight.

Ottar's [Call of the Battle Boar] had no such limit. It granted him immense buffs at will—but rapidly drained stamina and mana.

Not an issue, though. His second skill, [I Fight, Therefore I Am], granted him the development abilities Vitality and Mana Recovery during prolonged battle—essentially auto-heal and auto-mana-regen.

That skill also enhanced all of his development abilities during extended combat. The more injured he was, the stronger he became. And the higher his stats, the easier it was to trigger the skill—likely even a scratch would do it for him now.

As their fists collided again and again, Charles realized that Ottar wasn't just brute force—his technique was refined as well.

Which made sense. Ottar had gained more experience fighting fellow adventurers than monsters. Raised in Freya Familia's hellish environment, he had faced the former powerhouses of the Zeus and Hera Familia.

He went from being unable to beat even their weakest members… to one day fighting LV8 "Heroes" and LV9 "Empresses."

In fact, Ottar's rise to LV7 came after defeating "Gluttony" Chaldo during the Grand War.

Charles and Ottar were complete opposites—one a master of martial arts, the other a battle-hardened juggernaut forged by experience.

This was the first time Charles had met someone who could match his technique with pure combat instinct—and it thrilled him.

He and Ottar weaved and parried, fists grazing past faces. Charles received a cut on his cheek from a pressure-wind slash, while Ottar's hair singed and a burn scar marked his face.

Charles elbowed aside Ottar's arm and stepped in for a close punch.

But Ottar wasn't letting him close in again—he kicked before Charles could land the blow.

Charles struck his chest while Ottar's leg nailed his stomach. Both reeled back, blood at their lips, then charged again.

Their fists blurred, clashing in midair.

A cracking sound rang out—Ottar's gauntlet split apart from the force.

Fragments flew like shrapnel, but both men dodged effortlessly.

Ottar swung again—

"Four Symbols Fist: Black Tortoise—Mountain!"

Charles rooted himself into the dungeon floor. This technique linked the user's defense with the earth beneath them.

As long as the floor wasn't destroyed, Charles's defense was impenetrable.

Ottar's punch hit like thunder—but it was like punching a mountain.

He was left open. Charles countered with a punch to the chest—employing the Cicada Cry technique to send the impact straight to Ottar's heart.

Ottar coughed blood—but countered with a clean hit to Charles's face, forcing him to release his technique.

Both staggered back.

Charles wiped the blood from his mouth. "Damn, you're sturdy. You took a Cicada Cry and still hit back that hard?"

Ottar smirked. "You're not bad yourself."

No more words—only real fighting now.

Charles's dragon-scale scarf billowed. Heat warped the air.

Ottar transformed too—his eyes turned blank, muscles swelled, skin toughened like leather, and even his hair seemed to lengthen.

Dragon Blood Mode.

Call of the Battle Boar.

Both activated their full-power modes and charged.

Their clash shook the entire 15th floor. Walls crumbled, the very structure of the dungeon distorted.

Despite the chaos, neither showed signs of slowing.

Charles's Dragon Blood restored stamina and healed wounds, while Ottar's [I Fight, Therefore I Am] kept his condition steady.

They were burning with battle spirit.

"Iron Fist of the Flame Dragon!"

Charles's flaming punch struck Ottar's chest, burning away his shirt and revealing his muscular torso.

Ottar didn't flinch. He kicked Charles away, then collapsed to one knee, waiting to regenerate.

Charles clutched his ribs and looked back.

Above them, twin manifestations rose—a roaring dragon behind Charles, a pawing boar behind Ottar.

The two beasts clashed, jaws snapping.

And below, the two men fought on.

Charles's knife-hand cut into Ottar's chest, leaving a charred gash.

Ottar's punch broke one of Charles's ribs.

"Dragon Claw!"

Charles flipped using Ottar's punch as leverage, kicked his chin, and sent him flying.

"Dragon Wing Strike!"

He followed up in midair, blasting Ottar into rubble.

Charles stood guarded—he didn't believe for a second that was enough.

Sure enough, a hand emerged from the rocks.

Ottar rose—his Call of the Battle Boar had ended. He wasn't planning to continue.

"This test ends here. Any further would be a real death match—and that's not what Lady Freya wants. If you refuse, I'll retreat."

Charles blinked, then dropped Dragon Blood Mode as well.

Ottar's attitude annoyed him, but he knew the man meant every word.

"Fine. But just this once. If you provoke me again… you won't decide when it ends."

Ottar gave Charles a long, deep look—like trying to etch him into memory.

Then, silently, he picked up his discarded blade and walked away.

This absurd battle came to an end—but Charles had forgotten this was the 15th floor, a place packed with adventurers. There was no way a fight this explosive went unnoticed.
