Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Divine Duel The Sun vs The Song
The mountains cracked as the demon known as Curse Song smashed into the cliffside, sending shockwaves through the surrounding landscape. Smoke billowed. Boulders rolled.
The cursed entity, born of Zeref's black arts, reconstructed its body with twitching tentacles and mummified limbs, its grotesque form regenerating once more.
But this time, it was different.
Its soul was in pain—an unfamiliar sensation. Something deep and ancient inside the demon screamed in fear.
Across the battlefield stood Escanor, eyes narrowed, muscles bulging with limitless solar might.
From behind the protective barrier, Erza and Makarov looked on. Even they—veterans of countless wars—could feel the overwhelming power radiating from Escanor's body like a second sun.
"Grandpa…"Erza whispered, awe-struck."Escanor… He's already in his high noon state, and yet… he's still climbing."
Makarov trembled.
"That's not just high noon… that's something beyond it."
The Curse Song demon roared again. This time, not just in rage—but in desperation.
It slammed both arms down to conjure a black tidal wave of curse energy, an enormous dissonant magic pulse meant to swallow Escanor whole.
"I've had enough of your noise."
Escanor didn't move.
With a slight lift of his right palm—just two fingers raised—he summoned forth his counterattack.
"Cruel Sun."
A second sun materialized in the air above his palm—spinning slowly, its heat warping the space around it.
With a flick of his hand, Escanor hurled the sun forward.
🔥 BOOOOOM!!! 🔥
The black tide met solar wrath. Curse magic and sacred flame collided midair.
The very sky split.
Half the sky was drenched in black and purple chaos—howling like tortured souls.
The other half burned in golden purity—calm, unyielding, eternal.
And in the center—the collision gave way to a shockwave that blasted across the battlefield. The trees disintegrated. Mountains cracked. Even the barriers shuddered under the force.
From the rubble, the Curse Song rose again—its body smoking, limbs half-melted, screeching in agony. But this time, it didn't regenerate immediately.
"Your soul is breaking, isn't it?"
Escanor stepped forward, golden flames rising from his skin like a cloak.
"Because light burns you. And I…"He flexed his arms."...am the very incarnation of the sun."
The demon screeched—launching all its tentacles in a desperate bid to silence him.
"Death Touch!" The demon bellowed in a screeching voice, dark energy swirling from its core.
But Escanor was already gone.
He appeared midair—behind the demon—his body glowing like a god descending.
"Sacred Blaze: Lion's Judgment!"
He brought his hand down like a hammer of divine punishment.
The sunlight compressed into a single point—then erupted with apocalyptic force directly into the demon's back.
BOOOOOOM!!!
The entire upper half of Curse Song's body was blown apart, evaporated in one blazing instant. The black magic inside it tried to regenerate again, but—
"No, no. I won't allow it."Escanor clenched his fist."Sunshine—Denial."
Golden seals branded the air around the demon's broken form, locking its regeneration.
The demon shrieked like a banshee—its stolen limbs writhing, desperate to reform—but nothing worked.
"This body… is cursed…"The demon's voice turned raspy."But his light… is purer than death…"
Just then—a voice echoed inside Escanor's head.
"You've seen it now, haven't you, Escanor… the truth."
A shadow whispered from within the torn fabric of reality.
Escanor's eyes narrowed.
"So you were watching."
From beyond the veil, the man in black—the one who had corrupted the Curse Song flute—watched with amusement.
"That flute… was merely a vessel. A distraction. The real gift is yet to come."
Escanor scowled.
"You're the one who freed the Black Dragon."
"And I'll be the one who frees you too. Your 'sun'... is artificial. Borrowed. When you meet your true self—when he awakens—only then will you understand."
"Until then… Play your part, Saint Ten."
The voice vanished into a rift of shadow.
The demon tried one last act—pulling in dark magic to self-destruct.
Erza gasped.
"It's going to blow—"
"No," Escanor said softly. "I decide when it ends."
He closed his eyes. His magic surged—compressing the surrounding space around the Curse Song demon into a small, glowing orb of light.
"Solar Collapse."
In a flash—there was silence.
And then, only dust remained where the Curse Song demon once stood.
The battlefield fell quiet.
The dark magic had vanished.
Escanor floated down, golden aura flickering like embers on a breeze.
The Fairy Tail members rushed to him.
"Escanor!" Lucy cried. "Are you okay?"
"Yes," he said calmly. "But this isn't over."
"That shadowy voice… You heard it too?" Erza asked.
"I did. And I'll find him."
Suddenly, Councilor Org approached, eyes wide.
"That demon could've destroyed the whole Guild Summit. You saved everyone."
"No need for praise," Escanor said, turning away. "Just keep your people alive next time."
Makarov caught up, patting him on the back.
"You saved us all, my boy."
Escanor didn't reply immediately. He looked up—toward the sky.
"No," he whispered. "This was just a test."
"The real enemy… is still watching."
