Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Magical Abilities
Location: Time Rift Floating Island of Law and Memory
You
scared me to death!" Ultear huffed, fists clenched at her sides. "You wouldn't respond no matter how I called you!"
Escanor smiled softly, his voice warm like sunlight.
"I'm sorry… I didn't mean to worry you."
With gentle patience, Escanor explained what had just transpired—the sphere, the detached soul, and the surreal control over ambient energy.
Ultear listened silently, her expression shifting from confusion to disbelief… then finally, to something else.
"A sphere…? Escanor… Even in the long histories of the ancient gods, such an event never occurred. Not even when they approached the world's critical threshold."
She shook her head, eyes stormy.
"And even if one had… the magic cost would have broken them."
But Escanor only shrugged with a faint smile.
"It was born inside me, so I doubt it's a threat. Let it consume what it must."
Ultear frowned. She racked her memories, tracing the vast scope of her immortal life—yet even she had no precedent for what Escanor described. Not Ankhseram, not Chronos, not even the primordial dragons of void and time had ever produced such a phenomenon.
But then Escanor mentioned his soul state. His tone was casual—but Ultear froze in place.
"Wait. Your soul… left your body willingly?!"
Escanor nodded.
"I even moved around. I could feel the world's energy. I touched it. Guided it."
Ultear took a step back.
"Impossible… Even Ankhseram, whose dominion is over souls, cannot achieve that freely. If he removes his soul without a vessel, his essence unravels!"
She stared at Escanor as if seeing him for the first time.
But Escanor hadn't finished. He described how the surrounding energy followed his movements. How he could command it.
Ultear was silent.
"...What?" Escanor asked, confused.
She raised her gaze—solemn, shaken.
"That ability… It's not new. But only one being ever had it."
"Who?"
"The World Will itself."
Silence fell.
"The World Will's strength isn't just in its omniscience. Its true power lies in controlling all worldly energy. All gods and magi depend on that power. But what happens if someone else can take control…?"
Escanor's breath caught.
"Then… I can cut gods off from their power."
"Exactly."
Ultear's voice trembled.
"Escanor… if this continues… you won't just be stronger than gods. You'll be equivalent to the world will itself."
They both stood still, the vastness of the statement hanging over them like a cosmic bell, ringing into eternity.
Then Escanor's eyes lit with sudden realization.
"Wait! If I can guide energy, then I can help you recover, can't I?!"
Ultear's eyes widened.
"You"
He didn't wait.
Escanor closed his eyes, heart calm, and summoned the Time Power around them. With a wave of his hand, an ocean of time-energy surged forward—gentle, divine, and endless.
Ultear gasped.
The Time Tide rose in majestic waves, crashing through the Rift in slow-motion beauty. Ultear's body, broken for centuries, drank deeply from it. She moaned softly—her voice a sigh of long-awaited relief.
Her broken Time Core reknit itself. Her divinity awakened.
The floating island quaked.
Rocks disintegrated into sand beneath their feet as her aura surged—a Time God's pressure returning in full force. A colossal clock unfolded behind her, its sacred hands ticking backward and forward at once, threading her presence through dimensions.
She breathed deep, eyes glowing like starlight.
"I'm… whole again."
And then with confidence blooming in her chest, Ultear did something she never dared before.
"Escanor… I'll try it. The divine art of the Third Magic Source."
Escanor nodded, gently transferring both Time Power and Life Power into her core. It flowed like a second heartbeat, layer after layer, shielding her body.
Ultear's lips trembled. She felt it: his love, wrapping around her like sunlight through glass.
So warm… So steady. After all these lifetimes… I've finally found where I belong.
She closed her eyes… and screamed.
The ritual began.
Pain wracked her body. Cold sweat poured. Blood trickled from her mouth where she'd bitten down to endure. Escanor stood helplessly beside her, fists clenched.
Time crawled. Each second was a lifetime.
Then
A river of clocks burst from the sky. Time itself materialized, flowing across the Rift and washing over her like eternity's tide.
Outside, in the mortal world…
A colossal eye opened in the heavens.
The Eye of the World.
Its iris scanned the globe. Every creature on Earth fell to its knees. Kings screamed. Archmages panicked. Even divine beings trembled.
And in a dimension beyond death
Ankhseram reeled in terror.
"No… no, no, no! That eye! That wretched eye!"
He backed away, frantic. His voice broke.
"I hid from it for eons… Why is it awake now?! Who did this?!"
The Eye glared down but could not find its target.
Its wrath triggered earthquakes. Tsunamis. Unexplained solar eclipses. Entire empires cried out in horror, believing the end times had come.
But within the Rift… it was silent.
Ultear's body shimmered. Her trembling ceased.
She opened her eyes.
And for the first time in ages… she smiled.
