Chapter 137: Chapter 121: The Thin Dog and the Siege
Kenyal's face lit up with excitement upon receiving the news. Turning to his attendants, he shouted, "Quickly! Write to my father and tell him about this weapon. It has the potential to change the world. We must be the first to secure it!"
"Yes, Your Highness!"
His excitement was uncontrollable. The subsequent battles in the competition held no interest for him; they were predictable—swift victories dominated by the federal allies. The incredible weapon that could sever magic circles was the star of the show, rendering opponents powerless.
When the final victory was declared, Kenyal approached a diplomat from the federal allies. "Friend, could you arrange for me to meet your leader? That gentleman? My kingdom is willing to demonstrate our utmost sincerity in establishing communication. We'll offer anything!"
The diplomat looked at him with a mix of amusement and pity. "I'm afraid I'm not qualified to meet him, nor is anyone else here. If you wish to see Mr. Rhodes, I suggest speaking with the Dwarf King. He might be able to guide you."
Without further conversation, the diplomat walked away, leaving Kenyal slightly deflated. However, his entourage returned with a trophy—the coveted sword capable of cutting through magic circles.
As they inspected the weapon, they were awestruck. "This blade is extraordinary. Its sharpness, its light… even without a visible magic circle, it radiates immense power!"
---
Meanwhile, in Weston Country, chaos brewed. The king, frustrated by reports of his army's struggles, slammed a fist on his throne. "Are you telling me our soldiers can't overcome a little resistance? Are they all cowards?"
The department head, trembling under the king's glare, tried to explain, "N-No, Your Majesty! It's not that. What I meant is that with more reinforcements, we can crush the federal allies easily."
Another official stepped forward. "Your Majesty, why wait? Let's mobilize the full strength of our nation and flatten them! This will showcase our unmatched power to the world."
The room buzzed with agreement. The king nodded. "Very well. Instruct the First Army to hold their position until the Second and Third Armies arrive. Once we gather our forces, we will crush the federal allies with overwhelming might!"
---
By the time Weston's army reached the borders of the federation, exhaustion had set in. They had marched relentlessly, day and night, covering in two days a journey meant to take five. Yet, the royal family members overseeing the troops pushed them forward, driven by arrogance and the desire for glory.
The army stopped a few hundred meters from the city walls, facing the closed gates. On the battlements, the defenders stood silently, their expressions calm and unafraid.
"Sir, this is a surrender letter from Weston," a messenger informed Rhodes.
Rhodes chuckled. "Burn it. It's just formalities."
He turned to the Dwarf King. "So, they've brought 400,000 soldiers, and yet they seem utterly spent."
The Dwarf King grinned. "Of course! Marching this fast with no rest… those soldiers are running on fumes. This battle is already won."
"Good," Rhodes said, his smile cold. "Let's prepare the video stone. The world must see what true power looks like."
---
Outside the walls, a Weston prince, eager to prove himself, decided to act against orders. "With my forces alone, I can crush the federation and secure my place as heir to the throne!"
Ignoring commands to wait for reinforcements, he rode forward and delivered a pompous speech about peace and justice. The defenders on the walls responded with unimpressed stares.
Frustrated, the prince barked, "Attack! Show them the might of Weston!"
Catapults loaded with flaming stones were pushed forward. As the first projectile was launched, it soared through the air and slammed into the city wall… only to shatter harmlessly.
The prince's confident smirk faltered as he watched subsequent shots meet the same fate. The walls stood firm, glowing with red magic circles that absorbed every impact.
"What is this?" the prince muttered in disbelief.
An officer near him, equally bewildered, whispered, "The walls… they're reinforced with some sort of magic. Our attacks are useless."
Rhodes, watching from above, laughed softly. "Let them waste their strength. They'll soon learn what true fear means."
Below, one of the defenders mocked, "Your flaming rocks can't even scratch our walls. What's the point? Is this your so-called 'power'? Thin dog…"
The insult echoed across the battlefield, and though the prince didn't understand its meaning, the sneering tone left him seething with rage.
Happy New Year may this year brought more love and prosperity to you.
