Chapter 138: Chapter 122: Is This Holy-Level Magic?!
Mockery echoed from the city walls, each word a stinging slap to the soldiers below.
As the prince of Weston, his pride could not tolerate such ridicule. His face flushed with fury, and he roared, "Summon the great magician! Have him obliterate that pathetic wall! I swear, I will stand on the throne in that city by today!"
But the prince's command betrayed his ignorance. Great magicians were rare and wielded immense authority. They weren't tools to be summoned at will.
The magician, a man of imposing stature, cast a disinterested glance at the prince, then at the towering wall. "Your Highness, it would be unwise to act hastily. His Majesty ordered us to wait for the rest of the troops before attacking."
The prince's brow furrowed in displeasure. He felt slighted, convinced that his low rank among the royal siblings was the reason for this perceived insubordination.
"Oh? How disappointing. The legendary great magician is powerless against a mere wall. I expected better," the prince sneered, his words dripping with disdain.
The magician, no longer able to feign indifference, stood from his chair. "Your Highness, don't provoke me. I am not one to be trifled with. Very well, let's see what this wall is made of."
He raised his staff, its intricate red magic circle glowing ominously. Chanting softly, he invoked his spell:
"The fire that burns the earth, wielding the power to cleanse all—Flowing Fire!"
The magic circle expanded into the air, rotating with a fiery intensity. A massive fireball materialized and streaked towards the wall. The flames crashed against the stone, but when the fire dissipated, the wall stood unscathed, its surface glowing faintly with protective magic.
Rhodes, observing from atop the wall, chuckled. "How pitiful. Is this what passes for power now? You cower before gods and dragons because of your own inadequacy."
His words were sharp, cutting like a blade.
The prince turned on the magician, his face red with rage. "Didn't you claim this wall would be easy to destroy? What is the meaning of this?!"
The magician ignored the prince's outburst, his focus fixed on the wall. His pride had been wounded, and the mocking words from the defenders only stoked the flames of his anger.
"You think me weak?" the magician bellowed. "Fine! I'll show you the true power of a great magician!"
Drawing another magic circle in the air, this one more intricate and sinister, he invoked his ultimate spell:
"Let the earth tremble and the heavens blaze—Sky Fire!"
The atmosphere darkened as a colossal boulder, wreathed in flames, emerged from the spell. The fiery stone, thousands of meters wide, loomed over the city, casting an ominous shadow.
The defenders fell silent, their breath caught in their throats. Even the dwarf king looked uneasy, though he stayed rooted by Rhodes' side.
The great magician cackled, "Behold the power of holy magic! Even your precious walls cannot withstand this!"
But Rhodes remained unfazed. He yawned, casually contemplating how best to deal with the situation. Should he incinerate the army? Or display a more dramatic show of force to ensure his legend spread across the world?
The boulder descended, its fiery mass threatening to annihilate everything. When it finally struck the wall, a deafening explosion shook the ground. Dust and smoke filled the air, obscuring the battlefield.
The prince's triumphant laughter echoed through the chaos. "The wall is breached! Forward! Burn everything to the ground!"
But as the smoke cleared, his excitement turned to confusion.
The wall had absorbed the impact and retaliated. A brilliant red light emanated from the wall's core, spreading like veins across the battlefield. The light struck the boulder, and with a sharp crack, a massive fissure appeared in the stone.
Then came the final blow.
"Boom!"
The boulder shattered, fragments scattering across the sky. A secondary burst of energy vaporized the debris, leaving only shimmering specks of light that reflected the sun's rays.
Rhodes, still seated, smirked. "Destroy the city and think you've won? How laughable."
The prince, along with his soldiers, stood frozen in shock. Meanwhile, Rhodes exuded an unshakable calm, as if none of this warranted his concern.
In the face of this unassailable power, the lesson was clear: no matter the storm, one must remain composed, for true strength lies in unyielding resolve.
