Chapter 26: Chapter 26: The King's Treasure? I Have One Too

[3rd POV]

"Did the fight start? Gugalanna, let's move."

As soon as Ishtar noticed the two were fighting, she immediately sneaked over to Gugalanna's side.

If they didn't act now, when would they?

Once Kyouya returns, she won't be able to escape.

"Un~"

Seeing its master free, Gugalanna happily wagged its tail.

In just a few short months, it had finally understood how much of a beast a person could become once they stopped being human.

It's been working hard these past days, like a horse or a cow, but now it's about to finally leave the worksite.

...

"You face countless golden streams of light, and the weapons inside the King's Treasure seem endless, and you can't feel where it ends.]

Facing the ending of King's Treasure, Kyouya relied on "Absolute Counter" and managed to deflect all these attacks with just a long spear.

"Holy King, use this weapon."

Holy King, this is the title the people of Ur use to refer to him, distinguishing him from other kings.

They had never seen such a virtuous and wise king.

Even the old King Gilgamesh had never changed his fancy ways, but Kyouya is even better than Gilgamesh used to be.

A soldier threw a spear with all his strength, but he caught it without even looking and switched it with his own spear.

[You felt the people's trust in you, and it made you feel good. You decided to meet their expectations.]

"Again."

He changed his previous defensive strategy, charging through the heavy attacks of the King's Treasure and heading straight for Gilgamesh.

He had already sensed Ishtar's attempt to escape.

Without the Gugalanna's productivity, the construction of Ur would slow down.

He should've done something about her but decided not to because he was in a good mood.

Kyouya's words reached the ears of his soldiers, and they instinctively understood what their king was about to do.

The soldiers quickly got into formation, gripping their long spears tightly, and then threw them toward him.

The long spears flew like sharp arrows toward him, one after the other.

"The King's Treasure? I have that too."

He switched from defense to attack.

This would wear out his weapon faster, but it didn't matter now because his soldiers were there to help him.

Unlike Gilgamesh's endless wealth, Kyouka's King's Treasure was his people.

"You, not only are you not fleeing, but you're coming closer to me?"

Gilgamesh could feel it.

That replacement was no match for him, not even in terms of physical prowess.

However, the sudden ambushes and such remarkable martial skills, all managed with mere iron weapons, kept drawing closer to him.

A surge of anger welled up inside him.

Was it because this substitute of a king was trying to take his glory?

No

Gilgamesh was angry at those who supported him.

Those people should have been his subjects.

It was best to retreat, but Gilgamesh didn't want to back down against this fraud of a king.

He had to prove that he alone was the true king of the world.

A huge, shining golden sword, as big as a mountain, fell from the sky, heading straight for Kyouya.

That was the legendary sword that could cut through a thousand mountains—Ig-Alima.

"Bang~"

The enormous sword fell toward him, whose escape routes were nearly blocked by the King's Treasure, but this attack wouldn't hit him.

He only had one way to go, and that was forward. He didn't need an escape plan from the start.

"You should keep your distance from me."

After breaking countless long spears, Kyouya finally reached a point less than ten meters in front of Gilgamesh.

At this moment, if Gilgamesh tried to retreat, there was still hope. That's why Kyouya intentionally said those words.

This was a trick to anger him.

It was an old strategy but it worked very well on someone who was extremely angry.

Sure enough, Gilgamesh couldn't withstand Kyouya's taunt.

He had once been a wise king but used the wrong methods to resist fate. He thought being a tyrant would bring a good outcome.

He believed his strength was invincible and didn't need wisdom to rule the world.

He was wrong.

Kyouya was about to use the spear with the people to show him just how wrong he was.

Gilgamesh drew his golden twin swords but saw a long spear flying straight toward him before he could attack.

"Bang~"

It wasn't that Gilgamesh wasn't strong, but that Kyouya was too strong.

The immense pressure fell onto Gilgamesh's sword.

As Kyouya grew stronger, the impact from the spear caused the ground beneath Gilgamesh to crack, forcing him to kneel on one knee.

"Bastard, are you trying to make this king kneel to you? Do you think you deserve that?"

He hadn't expected the opponent to be so powerful. As he felt his knee getting closer to the ground, a powerful sense of humiliation swept over him.

"I don't deserve it, but what about those people you've oppressed? Do they deserve it?"

As Kyouya spoke, another long spear flew toward him from behind.

These weren't special weapons, but they carried the fate and trust of the people who supported him.

He grabbed the spear and slammed it down once more.

"Boom~"

The force was like a battering ram hitting a wall. Under such power and sharp words, Gilgamesh's mind shook, and he was forced to kneel.

"Just because of your decision, the soldiers raise their weapons against those they're meant to protect. You separated sons from their fathers and daughters from their mothers and took away everything people had saved for years... You might have had your reasons, but was there really no better way?"

He understood that Gilgamesh didn't turn from a wise king to a tyrant without cause.

It was his way of fighting against the gods and trying to build a future for humanity.

However, with Gilgamesh's wisdom and ability to see far into the future, was there really no better way?

There absolutely was, but his anger clouded his judgment.

That was what Kyouya hated most about him.
