Fate: Hero Simulator

Chapter 27: Chapter 27 Retreat

[3rd POV]

Humiliation, this is the ultimate humiliation.

Normally, Gilgamesh would have been furious and lost control, but as he knelt on the ground, something inside him suddenly became calm.

He knew he could have chosen a better way, but he had chosen the most selfish, arrogant one.

In these past few days, he drowned himself in luxury and pleasure to numb his heart. He thought he wouldn't feel anything if he immersed himself completely.

However, as soon as the pleasure faded, the regrets always began to bother him.

This time, he wasn't kneeling in front of Kyouya. He was kneeling to the people he had failed.

"Bastard, are you teaching me how to do things?"

The golden lights appeared one after another around Kyouya.

Gilgamesh, ignoring the risk of injuring himself, forcibly unleashed the King's Treasure.

It was a chaotic barrage of Noble Phantasms, followed by a massive explosion.

Kyouya immediately retreated, but what about Gilgamesh who had been in the middle of the explosion?

As the smoke and dust cleared, the once-proud, spiky hair became softer, and his extravagant golden armor was covered in cracks.

Gilgamesh moved as the armor shattered piece by piece, revealing his well-built physique.

[You can feel the shift in the battlefield. Gilgamesh has resolved his internal conflict, and his strength is beginning to recover. You are about to face a truly terrifying opponent.]

He was genuinely worried that Gilgamesh might unleash an Enuma Elish on him in the next second and remained vigilant, not daring to let his guard down.

"Indeed, I was wrong."

Unlike before, Gilgamesh's tone was now much calmer. However, this didn't mean that their battle was over.

"I will not allow the completion of the Wedge of Heaven, nor will I tolerate your existence. I will correct my mistakes, but that does not mean I won't kill you."

He could sense that Kyouya's ability to fight his way to this point was only possible because of his genuine commitment to the people.

He knew he had made mistakes, but he believed that his tyranny had hurt the people and that he would make it right.

However, Kyouya's challenge to his throne was a separate offense that deserved punishment.

[You can feel the attacks from the King's Treasure becoming even more intense. With your weapons running out, it's hard to get close to Gilgamesh in a short amount of time.]

[You see Gilgamesh retrieve a certain "weapon" from the King's Treasure, and you can feel an overwhelming sense of threat emanating from it.]

What is that?

He looked at the weapon that looked like a "sword" made of three cylindrical drill-shaped pillars.

The mere rotation of the pillar through magical energy generated wind pressure that was no joke.

He needed to find a way to catch him off guard.

He had always been the type to relentlessly exploit a useful move, and he couldn't help but feel tempted to strike at the back of Gilgamesh's head secretly.

[You and Gilgamesh stop attacking simultaneously because you sense something nearby that neither of you likes.]

"Hmph... how irritating."

Gilgamesh sensed the approach of some gods.

Although continuing the fight wasn't impossible, it would be a huge loss if those gods took advantage of the situation.

Moreover, this was an opportunity to test this substitute.

"Retreat."

Gilgamesh decided to stop the battle.

He wanted to see for himself whether this replacement was merely a puppet or an enemy truly worthy of being taken seriously.

[You watch Gilgamesh retreat but feel no joy as you realize that a group of beings even more troublesome than Gilgamesh is coming.]

[Your performance on the battlefield has been widely recognized. The news of you pushing back Gilgamesh's army would soon spread throughout the Mesopotamia region, and the effect of "Benevolent Hidden Emperor" would increase.]

[Your divinity has reached A++.]

He glanced at his status panel and noticed almost no changes, but his strength steadily increased.

The only conclusion was that the enhancement in Divinity was due to the effects of the Benevolent Hidden Emperor.

The boost from Divinity didn't show up on the panel itself.

'This is really troublesome. Will I end up different multiple people later, and this simulator will start locking the panel whenever I use a skill?'

Ishtar had returned, and it was clear she had brought reinforcements.

It seemed she was determined to make him fulfill the role of the "Wedge of Heaven."

...

"What? Old geezer, have you lost your mind?"

Ishtar, as the beloved daughter of the Mesopotamian Gods, had never been very kind to her father.

After she had heard his request, she became quite angry.

"You want me to marry that man? You saw how he treated me! If I marry him, my life will be unbearable!"

"Ishtar, this is merely a temporary measure. After the completion of the 'Wedge of Heaven', you can choose whoever you want as your lover. For now, just endure a little longer."

The King of the Gods of Mesopotamia, Anu, reassured his daughter with these words, not reprimanding her despite her harsh retort.

However, it wasn't just their family—every god on Earth shared the same concern.

They did not want to witness the decline of the Age of Gods.

The Wedge of Heaven was an essential existence.

"But if you send me over there, isn't that like a sheep walking into the tiger's den?"

Ishtar recalled Kyouya's ability to silently approach from behind, and by the time she reacted, it would already be too late, and her head would likely already explode.

There's no doubt that anyone else would have died.

"You don't have to worry because when we realized Gilgamesh would be difficult to control, we prepared a means to restrain him while creating a backup. As long as his divinity doesn't surpass Gilgamesh's, we'll be able to control him."

A person wouldn't fall into the same pit twice, let alone a god.

Gilgamesh possessed a very high level of A+ divinity.

To create a distinction among the gods, they intentionally weakened his divinity when preparing the second "Wedge of Heaven."

If everything went as planned, they should be able to control Shadow.

"Ereshkigal seems to have a good talent for teaching. Originally, Shadow, who was slightly weaker than Gilgamesh in every aspect, is now able to match him. Ishtar, your goal this time is to control Shadow and then punish the arrogant Gilgamesh."

Anu's plan is to control Kyouya, destroy Gilgamesh, and complete the Wedge of Heaven.'

"Why didn't you give me something like this earlier?"

Ishtar immediately revealed a malicious smile.

Once she controlled Kyouya, she would definitely make him lick her feet and repay all the humiliation she had endured those past days in one go.

However, Ishtar didn't know that there was an ancient human saying:

If something seems like it's going without any problems, then it's very likely that something unexpected will happen.
