Chapter 32: Chapter 32: The Fated Battle
[3rd POV]
"Do these two not know what we're secretly planning? They dare to fight this fiercely?"
Ishtar looked confused as she watched the battle in the distance.
The fight between Shadow and Gilgamesh stirred the sea into towering waves.
Although it was just the two of them, their battle was more terrifying than an entire army on the front lines.
Not to mention Enkidu, who was holding back the Bull of Heaven nearby.
The scale of the scene was just as great as their fight.
"They understand the situation but are still caught up in it. For people like them, we need to use open strategies."
Anu was naturally very pleased with the current situation.
The so-called situation was not something that could be swayed by individual will.
"You should remember that last time they were able to team up against us, but in the end, the result was just forcing us to surrender. Ishtar, do you know why?"
"It's because of our lifespan?"
Although Ishtar could be a bit spiteful, after Kyouya had physically "enlightened" her a few times, she had indeed become a bit sharper.
The alliance of the two Wedges of Heaven, the power of the Ea, and the Holy King of the Moonlight made even Anu no match for them.
The defeat of the gods was only a matter of time, but Gilgamesh and Kyouya had not killed them because it was simply impossible to do so.
Gods could hide and retreat, but once they had grown old and died, the gods would return to this land.
"There is indeed a way to live forever in this world, but would Gilgamesh share it with his enemy? Can this land allow two kings to rule together? No, that's impossible. The human greed and distrust of humans make them destined to be enemies. The Bull of Heaven and Enkidu are merely catalysts in this process."
Power is a deadly poison.
For the sake of this power, the two powerful beings continue to fight, even knowing traps are waiting for them.
This is the most terrifying "poison" in the world.
As the King of the Gods of Mesopotamia, Anu once held absolute power before these two were born, but now...
"It doesn't matter because they will die soon, and power will return to my hands once again."
Anu muttered to himself, and Ishtar, standing beside him, couldn't help but sigh.
For someone like her, who didn't have much desire for power, Anu seemed just as trapped in the "poison" of power as anyone else.
If they could endure and wait, then Gilgamesh and Kyouya would inevitably fight each other over immortality without their instigation.
That would be the moment to act.
For now, Anu was increasing both sides' strength to stir up the war and was just desperately trying to regain his own power.
However, none of that mattered to her.
She had no interest in power herself, and what she sought were simply pleasures and the love of the people.
After this battle, everything that belonged to the gods would return.
...
[You can feel someone watching, but this time, you and Gilgamesh aren't pretending. You're both trying your best to kill each other."
He could sense that Gilgamesh was clearly different from before.
Gilgamesh still attacked with his Noble Phantasm, the King's Treasures, but he himself seemed more focused on close combat.
The two of them had nearly the same physical strength, but Gilgamesh's overwhelming firepower nullified Kyouya's advantages in divinity and technique.
[You've thought more than once about whether your choice was the right one. If the person opposite you isn't someone you can trust, then betting your entire life on it could result in a complete loss.]
Yes, Kyouya had placed his bet on Gilgamesh.
He was betting on whether Gilgamesh would understand his intentions and just how far his pride would reach.
[You understand that everything is ready. It's time for the answer to be revealed.]
"Indeed, let the answer be revealed. Let me see just what kind of man you, Gilgamesh, truly are."
No longer able to hesitate, Kyouya made his decision.
He was willing to sacrifice everything to ensure that humanity would no longer be oppressed by the gods.
This moment was the time to reveal the answer.
The once clear sky began to darken, dark clouds covered the sun, and a single bright moon replaced it, hanging high in the sky.
Kyouya soared into the sky, and the crown and armor forged from moonlight reappeared on him.
"Holy King of the Moonlight? Then let me, the king, strike down this moon."
Originally, Gilgamesh might have called anyone who claimed to be king in front of him a "mongrel" but he didn't say such words this time.
It's because he could feel it—the armor, the cloak, and the crown weren't just constructed from magic but from the faith of the people.
Facing the power forged from the hearts of so many people, even someone as arrogant as Gilgamesh was unwilling to speak insults.
The King's Treasures dimmed their light, but everyone knew this was just the calm before the storm.
Gilgamesh gathered all the magic from the King's Treasures into a single Noble Phantasm.
This was the key to determining the outcome in one strike.
Inside a golden orb of light, he drew out a sword of the most powerful Noble Phantasm, Ea, the Sword of Rupture.
It spoke of the beginning of everything, the separation of heaven and earth, the creation of the world, and the cutting through of reality itself.
This sword possessed immense destructive power, and Gilgamesh channelled all the magic power of his king's treasures into it.
Who in this world could possibly stop such a blow?
"The fate flows with the changing tides, the bright moon hangs high in the sky, the will of the people is directed towards it, and I follow where they lead."
The moon in the sky grew even brighter, and the sea seemed to respond with the moonlight shining down.
The reflection of that moon in the water appeared to be drawn by some invisible force as if a giant hand of nothingness had risen from the depths, and the two moons hung high in the sky.
"Feel the judgment of the falling moon."
Kyouya pressed his hand downward, and the two full moons in the sky dropped straight toward the earth.
At this critical moment, Gilgamesh finally poured all his magical energy into Ea.
"The elements coalesce and solidify to bring forth the star where creation interweaves. In death, you will bow before it. Enuma Elish: The Star of Creation That Split Heaven and Earth!!"
A furious crimson magical energy erupted from Ea, a power that seemed to come from before the world was even created.
The overwhelming magic directly held back Kyouya's strongest attack—no, it was even stronger than his own.
The two moons were first able to resist this torrent of magic but began to crack under its power slowly.
They started to be pushed back by the immense power.
'Is it about to end?'
However, Kyouya understood not yet.
Because everything had only just begun...
As the magic from the Ea shattered the two moons and was about to hit him, a flash of cold light appeared just when Gilgamesh was about to win.
A single arm, soaked in blood, flew into the sky, still gripping... the Ea.
"Finally... it's here."
Gilgamesh gritted his teeth, enduring the pain.
The real battle had only just begun.
To be continued...
