Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Misfortune?
[3rd POV]
"Wait, why...?"
Enkidu stared at Gilgamesh's severed arm and then at the blood on his own hands.
What exactly had he just done?
"Gil, I..."
"I know, you didn't do it on purpose."
Gilgamesh quickly pulled the Ea back into his King's Treasures.
The next moment, his remaining arm was targeted by a distant attack and utterly destroyed, not leaving a single trace behind.
This completely cut off any hope Gilgamesh had of reattaching his arm.
"Enkidu, as a creation of the gods, how could they not have given you some 'control' over you? Especially with that last example."
Gilgamesh glanced at Kyouya.
After "bathing" in the radiance of the Ea, Kyouya's armor was shattered, and even the crown had many cracks but the brilliance never faded.
Even though he was seriously injured, he didn't abandon his original determination.
[Your injuries are severe, but if you wish to fight, you can still unleash a great amount of power. This comes from your "Eternal Arms Mastery" skill.]
[You sense more and more gods approaching, and this time, there are even more than last time. Clearly, Anu has mobilized all his forces."
[Your plan is still in motion.]
"Enkidu, why did you disobey my orders? That last strike could have pierced Gilgamesh's heart."
Anu's displeased voice echoed from the heavens.
Clearly, the opportunity to kill Gilgamesh had been missed, and he complained about the wasted chance.
"No, I..."
"My friend, the fact that I'm still alive is the best proof, isn't it? You didn't kill me. That was your own choice."
Gilgamesh didn't blame Enkidu. As he said, the fact that he was still alive was a clear sign of Enkidu's personal will.
However... what would happen to Enkidu for disobeying the gods' command?
Gilgamesh had a reason for telling Enkidu not to interfere.
"A useless is a useless, but since you're no longer useful, I won't waste my time on you."
Unlike the two Wedges of Heaveann that required divinity, Enkidu was created solely as a weapon in this world.
The gods could naturally control him without divinity of his own. Suddenly, A crack appeared on Enkidu's body, followed by the second and third.
Even though Gilgamesh had prepared for this, he couldn't help but feel a deep sadness when the moment came.
He was mourning the loss of a friend, mourning the loss of a noble soul.
"Enkidu."
Gilgamesh's remaining arm wrapped around Enkidu, but this couldn't stop the inevitable death.
"Do you need me to buy you some time to adjust your mood?"
Kyouya slowly rose to his feet.
The situation this time was far from as good as before.
The healing potion Gilgamesh had used to recover from his injuries had already been exhausted in the previous battle.
That meant this time, he would need to fight the gods while still injured and exhausted.
"Long-range support, I can still manage that."
Gilgamesh had lost one of his arms, and even his most powerful weapon, Ea, couldn't be used freely anymore.
He couldn't engage in close combat with the gods in his current state. This time, Gilgamesh didn't try to push himself because he understood what Kyouya was about to do.
"Even at this point, you still refuse to surrender? What a shame. I was hoping to return the humiliation you've put me through."
Anu sneered.
Anu had planned to torture them, make them suffer, and die in agony, but now it seemed that goal would not be possible. He could sense in their eyes that both had already accepted their inevitable death.
It's ridiculous, so laughable.
Even with the wisdom to see through everything, they still can't change the situation.
This is the weakness of humanity. They walked to their deaths, driven by their so-called personalities and persistence.
The poison of power is even more...
"The poison of power has already taken root in us. You're trying to say that, right?"
"What?"
Kyouya saw through Anu's thoughts but quickly regained his composure.
This time, he had come fully prepared, bringing with him not only his usual forces but also Ereshkigal who was in the Underworld.
He and Gilgamesh had no means of recovery. This time, the situation was clearly in their favor, and there was no need to panic.
"You used the simplest of strategies, exploiting the desires within human hearts. As long as we are still greedy for power, as long as we still see each other as enemies, we will inevitably fall into your trap."
Kyouya realized.
This was just a simple "prisoner's dilemma," and both he and Gilgamesh could see through the scheme, and the key to breaking their plan was whether they could trust each other.
Can humans truly trust each other?
"However, I am willing to believe and trust someone I hate, someone I see as an enemy. Since you used the simplest strategy, I will use the simplest method to break it."
Suddenly, chains appeared, locking the sky, and the gods were confused.
The gods had no idea where these chains came from, but they could feel the "concept" power on them that greatly suppressed their divine powers.
As long as these chains remained, they would not be able to escape.
"This feeling... Enkidu, a mere tool, actually betrayed us."
As the creator of Enkidu, Anu had not granted him enough divinity but still expected him to fight in battle with Gilgamesh, which meant that he had to rely on special tactics.
This "chain" was specifically designed to counter Gilgamesh. The stronger the opponent's divinity, the more powerful the force of this "chain" became.
"Enkidu was never just a tool. He had his own thoughts and a pure soul. He is nobler than any of you."
Gilgamesh held a piece of a chain in his hand, a remnant from Enkidu's shattered body.
Anu originally intended this as a tool to restrain the Wed of Heaven with The Chains of Heaven.
"This was his choice. I will not allow you to insult him."
Gilgamesh was furious to the extreme. This anger didn't come from the arrogance of the gods but from the death of his close friend.
This time, he finally felt what it was like to lose something important because of a careless word.
Does it hurt this much?
"Die!"
The treasures of the King's Treasure opened in the sky, unleashing a barrage of attacks, making sure no god could escape.
At the same time, the bright moon hung high in the sky, and despite his injuries, Kyouya soared into the heavens.
Today, they would make sure that gods were no longer a problem. With their combined strength, they would solve the eternal problem.
"Anu, this is the answer we give you. Even enemies can unite, not for power, but for the sake of more people to live peacefully in this world."
The bright moon hung high, then descended.
The Holy King of the Moonlight would now fight for the generations to come.
To be continued...
