Chapter 6: Meeting The Team

After a brief and oddly therapeutic conversation with Dinah, Raiden patiently awaited in his room until Batman entered.

"So, I heard you've chosen to join the team? That's a wise decision. The Light will come after you regardless. Training from now on, until you confront them, is your best solution," Batman said, locking eyes with Raiden.

Nodding in agreement, Raiden asked, "Could you tell me more about this team?"

Drawing closer, Batman grabbed Raiden's hand and, using some sort of code, removed the bracelets that had suppressed his Meta-gene. "Come, walk with me. I'll explain as we go."

Following behind Batman, Raiden inquired, "Well?"

Batman decided to speak as they walked. "The Team is a group of young superheroes assigned to carry out covert operations on behalf of the Justice League."

They entered a room with a peculiar-looking tube. Batman retrieved a computer and instructed, "Stand in that circle."

After a brief moment, a machine stated, "B-10 Raiden Kagawa, Confirmed Registration."

Batman looked at Raiden and explained, "The Team provides a place for young heroes to learn and do good away from the public spotlight. Currently, there are eight members on the team. Let's go meet them."

Following Raiden, Batman walked toward the circle, which began to glow.

"Authorization Batman 0-2."

"Authorization Raiden B-10."

After a brief glow, Raiden looked around and spotted Dinah and Wonder Woman. Next to them stood a group of teenagers in superhero costumes.

"Could have warned me about the teleportation, you know," Raiden quipped.

Before he could get a good look at the team, a yellow blur darted toward him. Surprisingly, Raiden managed to follow its path, taking a step back in surprise.

"Hello, Wally, Wally West. You can call me Kid Flash. Would've preferred a girl, but hey, the man who defeated Amazo alone is also welcome," the kid, known as Wally, spoke up first.

"WALLY!" the girl in the green suit called out to him. Wally quickly returned to her side as she grabbed him by the ear. "Did you say you would have preferred a girl?"

Chuckling, Raiden smiled and said, "This is quite the eccentric team you've got here. I like it."

Nodding, Batman introduced Raiden to the team, "Team, this is Raiden Kagawa. You've already received a briefing about him. Since he has no place to go back to and powers beyond our comprehension, it has been decided that he will join all of you."

A confident, blonde, dark-skinned kid spoke up, "My name is Kaldur'ahm. You can call me Kaldur. I'm known as Aqualad and the current leader of the team. I welcome you as one of us, Raiden."

Behind Kaldur, a smaller-sized kid in a dark suit raised his hand slightly. "Hey, Robin here. Nice to meet you."

On his left was a girl in an oddly magician's suit. "Zatanna Zatara. Nice to meet you as well."

Another teen, on the stronger side, added, "Conner, or Superboy. Nice to meet you."

"Hi, I'm Megan! Welcome to the team!" The green-skinned girl beside Connor greeted Raiden excitingly, Raiden noted that she looked to be of Martian origins.

"Hi, I'm Artemis. Nice to meet you as well. Sorry about Wally," Artemis, the girl in the green suit with blonde hair, said.

Finally, the dark-skinned girl with short hair spoke, "Raquel Ervin. You can call me Rocket as well. Nice to meet you."

After the entire team introduced themselves, Raiden stepped in front of Batman and said, "My name is Raiden Kagawa. Nice to meet you all. I'm happy to be joining your ranks, and thank you for taking time to meet me."

Batman stepped forward and addressed the group, "Raiden will be a new member, and his abilities are not yet fully known to us. We will help him discover and learn how to use them. Since he is new, I need all of you to keep an eye on him, especially during missions. Unlike you all, Raiden has only experienced one battlefield encounter."

"One battlefield encounter where he defeated Amazo! Alone! This guy is incredible!" exclaimed Kid Flash.

"Don't expect that every time, though. I could only hold that for a maximum of ten minutes, but thanks, Wally," Raiden replied.

"No need!"

"While we're on that topic, since we've removed the meta-gene suppressors, we'd like to see your powers, Raiden. If that's okay with you, of course. Dinah here will be your opponent," Wonder Woman suggested.

"I suppose I don't mind. I hope I get an actual battle servant, though," Raiden replied as he walked towards the combat arena indicated by Wonder Woman.

"What do you mean by that?" Batman asked, taking mental notes.

"From my understanding, the heroes inside me aren't strictly combat-oriented. Although I can't say for sure since I've only managed to contact one."

"Get ready, Raiden. I won't go easy on you. Consider this your entrance exam. If you impress me, I'll let you join the team," Dinah said, attempting to motivate Raiden.

"Okay, here I go. Throne of Heroes!"

"Okay, okay! I will get to work since I was summoned. Well, this is very ideal! I don't have to work! You take over my body, master!" Raiden's appearance transformed into that of a tall and lean young man with grey-green eyes, messy spiky orange hair partially covering his right eye, lincoln green clothing, a dark green cloak, bandages on his left arm, and brown boots.

"Well, this is quite the coincidence," Raiden remarked.

"Whoa! This is completely different from the one in the security footage! So you really can change into different heroes!" exclaimed Wally.

"Quite the amazing power you have, Raiden," added Kaldur.

"Who is it? Sounds familiar!" wondered Dinah.

"I won't say who it is, but I'll give you a hint. He's an inspiration to one of the League's members. Now then, Miss Dinah, who is it?"

"Ehh, I'm an inspiration to someone? I was a thief, you know?"

After some thought, Batman finally spoke up, "An inspiration to one of the League members, green wear indicates forest battles, and a bow. An inspiration to Green Arrow, Robin Hood."

"What!" exclaimed Dinah.

"Well, this just got more interesting," said Robin.

"Robin Hood? Is that true, Raiden?" Wonder Woman inquired.

"Indeed. Although this isn't exactly the real Robin Hood, since Robin Hood has many iterations and fictional tales, this is merely one of them."

"You said you summon heroes? Robin was a thief. He did it for the good of the people, yes, but a thief nonetheless," Wonder Woman pointed out.

"I think you are misunderstanding the term 'hero,' Miss Wonder Woman."

"You can call me Diana. Hearing 'Wonder Woman' after 'Miss' sounds awful."

"Well, you see, Miss Diana, the term 'hero' is subjective. Genghis Khan is a savage murderer to most people, but to his countrymen, he's a hero. As such, he qualifies as one due to my ability, same as Robin."

Getting impatient, Dinah urged, "I'd like to start our spar now, Raiden. I'm not interested in a history lesson."

"Robin isn't exactly useful in this type of confrontational 1v1 battle, but it doesn't matter. Miss Dinah, stay safe. I'll try to hold back."

"Hold back? Are you underestimating me, Kid? Let's get started, shall we? On three. One, two, three, go!"

Immediately, three shots from Raiden's crossbow were launched at Dinah, who managed to dodge them all and went on the offensive. She forced Raiden into close-quarters combat, but he skillfully evaded her punches. When he attempted a low kick, Dinah effortlessly dodged backward. However, this move allowed another round of arrows to be launched at her, catching her off guard. Dinah had to use her sound wave to stop the arrows.

"I see. Quite the impressive sound, Miss Dinah. I doubt anyone would argue with you if they knew how loud you scream. Although, I wouldn't mind such arguments," Raiden commented.

"What's with this talk? You seem like a thirty-something bum," Dinah retorted.

Realizing that he had unintentionally hit on Dinah, Raiden quickly said, "Don't mind me, Miss Dinah. I'm sorry. I forgot to mention that my personality is affected a bit by whomever I summon."

"Hey, don't go blaming me for this! Although I agree, I like women like her!"

"I'll accept this excuse. Brace yourself, Raiden. I'm about to beat that old man inside your body," Dinah warned.

Jumping directly toward Raiden, Dinah kicked him, and although he blocked it, she followed up with a round kick to his guts, pushing him away. She then unleashed a scream, sending him flying.

"Holding back, eh? You're not impressing me right now, Raiden."

"Hey, master, come on now. You're not going to take that, are you? This is my reputation on the line, you know. You need to show that beautiful woman how powerful I was."

"Uhhh," Raiden mumbled as he got up and looked at Dinah. He then said, "Fine, fine, shut up! Oh, sorry, I'm not talking to you, Miss Dinah."

Dusting himself off, Raiden said, "Alright, got it. Thanks for the advice, Robin. All right, Miss Dinah, I'm gonna take you down now."

"You're still with that cocky attitude? Unless you've got something to show for it, it won't work."

Raiden loaded the 'Yew bow' crossbow and said, "Here we go," aiming it and letting loose several arrows. Dinah managed to dodge most of them and went on the offensive again. However, she wasn't ready for Raiden to jump backward and shoot another arrow. She screamed to dodge it, but something unusual happened; the arrow exploded into a smoke screen that covered the area.

"No Face May King! Good luck finding me, Miss Dinah."

"Is this it? Attacking me inside the smoke? Raiden, I train with Batman and Green Arrow. I'm very used to these kinds of tactics."

Biding her time, Dinah waited for Raiden's attack. When facing an opponent with an advantage in low-visibility conditions, it was best to remain calm and prepare for counterattacks rather than launching one. Unfortunately for her, no attack came.

After a while, the smoke dissipated, but Raiden was nowhere to be seen. "What?"

"I win, Miss Dinah," said Raiden as he shot her with another arrow.

The arrow bounced off her back since it wasn't real, and Dinah looked around to find Raiden. He then announced, "I'm here, Miss Dinah."

She looked forward again as Raiden's normal form began to reappear.

"I see. So you used the smoke to trick me into thinking you were hiding in it. But the truth is, you had another ability that concealed your appearance and used my momentary confusion after the smoke disappeared to strike. Impressive, Raiden. Well done," Dinah conceded, realizing she had been bested.

Rushing towards Raiden, Wally exclaimed, "Dude! You beat Black Canary! You are awesome! Not as awesome as me, but up there for sure."

Reverting back to his normal form, Raiden said, "And this is where we have a very nice weakness!" He fell face-first and passed out.
