Chapter 12: Beast Taming
Without any hesitation, Liam headed towards the Skeleton, a wicked smile on his face.
As soon as the Skeleton saw him, it felt a strange shiver run through its bones. Quickly, it raised its battered sword and attacked him.
But Liam, acting indifferently, severed the Skeleton's arms, leaving it defenseless.
The surprise was so great that the near-mindless Skeleton felt fear and turned, intending to flee.
"Where do you think you're going?" Liam sneered.
He then took the battered sword from the Skeleton's fallen hand and also cut off its legs, causing it to collapse onto the ground, without any limbs to move.
After cutting off all escape routes for his test subject, he briefly examined the sword, but found it worthless, so he threw it aside.
Unfortunately, the good sword he had obtained earlier was shattered.
However, he wasn't bothered by it, because unexpectedly, he had managed to upgrade his Swordsmanship skill to E-Rank during the previous two days.
While surprising, it was reasonable—after all, he had spent five full years training himself in swordsmanship,
which had greatly developed his skill, but it had remained limited by his low rank.
Therefore, as soon as he ascended, his potential in swordsmanship burst forth.
Naturally, he only realized this after picking up the sword and starting to fight with it.
However, this was a special case, and it was clear that he would need a little longer if he wanted to upgrade his Swordsmanship skill to D-Rank.
After staring at the Skeleton for a short moment, he frowned and wondered in confusion,
"Wait, how can I tame this monster? Or rather, how does the Beast Taming skill even work?"
He raised his hand, rubbed his chin, and began to think seriously.
Slowly and carefully, he reviewed all the knowledge he had stored in his mind.
Despite his miserable situation within his family, he had received a very good education and knew many things about Ascendants, unlike common people.
After a brief moment, he remembered something specific.
His eyes narrowed, and he muttered obscurely,
"That fat Felix, Count Beaumont's son, awakened a unique skill last year.
I remember he was saying something about understanding and visualizing the skill while boasting, and he emphasized the necessity of concentration and mental clarity."
He slowly bent down, stared at the Skeleton's face, and asked,
"What do you think that means? Do you have any ideas?"
Naturally, the Skeleton was just a dumb monster, so he received no response.
Despite his confusion about the matter, he nevertheless got an initial idea of what he needed to do.
First, he looked around and carefully checked his surroundings.
When he confirmed it was empty, he placed his hand on the Skeleton's head, closed his eyes, and directed all his focus towards understanding and visualizing the Beast Taming skill.
'It's clear the skill means control, domination, and even respect and authority.
Monsters have wills just like humans, and I must crush that will and impose myself on them as the controller and master.
Yes, that's the point. Physical strength doesn't matter; what truly matters is an unyielding iron will and a high mental fortitude full of wisdom.'
"Mind and will are the secret."
As soon as he realized this, a very strange feeling came over him. His mind became clear, and he calmly opened his eyes.
He was slightly stunned and muttered, "Thinking about it, unique skills seem similar to magic spells.
They also require understanding, and then you must visualize the form of the spell and give it a tangible characteristic.
For instance, a fireball is a large, burning sphere with high heat. So, what could symbolize Beast Taming?"
After a short period of thought, a specific idea struck him:
"A collar, yes. Collars are always placed around the necks of tamed monsters and pets.
The collar is the symbol that distinguishes them from other wild beasts."
Although he wasn't sure about it, he decided to try.
He quickly closed his eyes again and directed all his focus towards visualizing a collar representing enslavement and control around the Skeleton's neck.
After a few seconds, he began to feel a mysterious force resisting his visualization.
He was surprised, but at the same time, he felt happy because he finally received a reaction.
'This is the Skeleton's will.'
He showed a serious expression. Despite the obscurity of the matter, he managed to direct his will and mental power to confront and suppress the Skeleton's will, and with a stern voice, he commanded, "Obey me."
A few seconds later, the Skeleton's will vanished.
Then, a black metallic collar appeared around its neck, but the collar turned transparent and suddenly disappeared.
As soon as he finished, Liam opened his eyes and stepped back, exhaling tiredly.
It was very exhausting, and it had depleted much of his mental power.
[Taming successful]

The moment he saw the System notification, he smiled happily and felt great excitement,
"I truly succeeded, I can tame monsters!"
Calmly, he sat down to catch his breath. At the same time, he began to review what he had done so he wouldn't face any obstacles next time.
After organizing his thoughts, he looked at the skeleton with a strange expression.
After taming it, he noticed a faint bond between them, which allowed him to perceive the Skeleton's emotions.
Apparently, due to the Skeleton's lack of intelligence, it didn't have strong emotions, only a little fear.
However, he didn't pay much attention to it, and with an excited voice, he commanded, "Roll over!"
Following his orders, the Skeleton began to roll on the ground in a very ridiculous manner.
Liam couldn't help but scoff. 'What a useless idiot. I might as well set him free.'
After making his decision, he waited until he regained his strength, then stood up.
Without touching the Skeleton, he began to visualize the disappearance of the collar around its neck.
This time, the action required little effort. The collar reappeared and was no longer hidden, then, without warning, it shattered into fragments that turned into smoke.
At that moment, he lost his control over the Skeleton.
'Thinking about it, this is more like enslavement than taming, as I completely dominate their will.'
He smiled strangely, and after standing in place for a short while,
He decided to leave the Skeleton alone, as it had been a good test subject.
Afterwards, he left and began searching for more monsters to tame, as it seemed he was able to tame many monsters at the same time.
