Chapter 21: Chapter 21: A New Start
Lee stood outside Gen's apartment, heart pounding.
She wasn't sure if Gen would even open the door.
Before she could knock, the door swung open.
Gen leaned against the frame, arms crossed. "Took you long enough."
Lee blinked. "You… knew I was coming?"
Gen smirked. "Just a feeling."
Lee frowned. Something felt off, but she let it go.
Gen stepped aside. "Come in."
Lee hesitated, then walked in. The place was simple but neat. It smelled like coffee and something fried.
Gen sat on the couch and patted the seat next to her. "So? What's up?"
Lee sat but didn't look at her. "I… I have feelings for you."
Gen tilted her head. "Feelings?"
Lee cleared her throat. "Yeah. I don't know if it's love, but I know I want to try. I want to give us a chance."
Gen stared at her for a moment, then smiled. "Okay."
Lee blinked. "Okay?"
Gen nodded. "Yeah. Let's date."
Lee frowned. "That easy?"
Gen chuckled. "What? You want me to make it hard for you?"
Lee shook her head. "No, it's just… I thought you might be mad at me."
Gen leaned back. "I was. But I get it. You're dealing with a lot. And honestly? I still want you, Lee."
Lee felt something in her chest loosen. "Thanks."
Gen smirked. "So, what now? You gonna introduce me to your mom?"
Lee stiffened. "About that…"
Gen raised an eyebrow. "What?"
Lee sighed. "She wants to talk to you."
Gen groaned. "Of course, she does."
Lee rubbed her forehead. "Yeah. And I need to warn you—she's not happy."
Gen shrugged. "When is she ever happy with me?"
Lee sighed. "That's why I'm coming with you. I know you two don't like each other, and I don't want things to get out of hand."
Gen smirked. "You think we're gonna fight?"
Lee gave her a look. "I know you will."
Gen laughed. "Fair point."
Meeting Wang Yan
Gen sat in the expensive restaurant, tapping her fingers against the table.
Lee sat beside her, looking just as nervous.
Wang Yan entered, dressed in her usual elegant style. She sat across from them, eyes scanning Gen like she was studying her.
Gen forced a smile. "Nice to see you, Mrs. Wang."
Wang raised an eyebrow. "Is it?"
Gen smirked. "Not really."
Lee sighed. "Please don't start."
Wang ignored her. "Let's get to the point. You want to be with my daughter?"
Gen nodded. "Yeah."
Wang tilted her head. "Why?"
Gen's expression turned serious. "Because I like her. Because she makes me feel alive. Because I want to see where this goes."
Wang scoffed. "That's it? That's your great reason?"
Gen leaned forward. "What else do you want me to say? That I'll move heaven and earth for her? That I'll do anything to keep her happy? Fine. I will."
Lee's eyes widened slightly.
Wang studied Gen for a moment. "You talk big. But can you prove it?"
Gen held her gaze. "Try me."
Wang smirked. "Good." She took a sip of her tea, then casually said, "I want grandchildren."
Lee choked on her drink. "What?!"
Gen blinked. "Come again?"
Wang set her cup down. "You heard me. I don't care how, but I want grandchildren."
Lee's mouth opened and closed. "Mom—what the hell?"
Wang looked at Gen. "That's your problem to solve. If you're serious about my daughter, then figure it out."
Gen sat back, rubbing her temples. "Wow. That's… something."
Lee groaned. "Mom, you can't just—"
"I can," Wang interrupted. "And I did."
Lee sighed. "This is ridiculous."
Wang shrugged. "Take it or leave it."
Gen smirked. "You really don't make things easy, do you?"
Wang smiled. "Why should I?"
Gen looked at Lee. "Well, guess I got some thinking to do."
Lee groaned. "Please don't say yes just to make her happy."
Gen chuckled. "Relax. I won't promise anything yet." She turned back to Wang. "But I do plan on sticking around."
Wang's expression didn't change, but there was something in her eyes—maybe approval, maybe curiosity. "We'll see."
Lee sighed, rubbing her face. "This is the worst dinner ever."
Gen grinned. "Oh, babe, it's just getting started."
