Chapter 7: Chapter Seven: Into the Maw
The virus was paused—but not gone.
Lyra and Jett were stable, but every few hours, the darkness crept back—like a shadow waiting for the right moment.
Zevor: "Noctira's lair is deep beneath Orion Waste Facility. A perfect breeding ground for viral deployment."Rayna: "So we don't wait. We hit her now—while we still can."
The Sentinels suited up and descended into the undercity—layers of rusted pipes, flickering lights, and dripping shadows. The deeper they went, the less it felt like Earth.
Finally, they reached it: a twisted nest of Void-tech and bone, pulsing like a heartbeat.
Kael: "So this is her home. Creepy enough for you, Jett?"Jett (grinning): "Ten out of ten haunted sewer vibes."
Suddenly, the walls came alive—infected husks, half-human, half-Void, stumbling out of alcoves.
Lyra: "Same infection pattern. Controlled—barely."Zayn: "We clear them fast. Find Noctira. Find the cure."
The fight was brutal—tight spaces, overwhelming numbers—but the team's sync was sharper now. They moved like a unit.
Kael held the front.Lyra and Jett cleared the flanks.Rayna gave commands on the fly.Zayn hacked a control node to reveal the core chamber.
Inside: Lady Noctira, cloaked in living shadows, stood over a glowing pod filled with swirling viral essence.
Noctira: "Still fighting it? You should have let them turn. They would have been beautiful."
Kael: "They're not yours to break."
They clashed.
Noctira fought like a virus herself—spreading tendrils, disappearing and reappearing with poisonous elegance. Every touch risked reinfection. Lyra faltered. Jett's visor flickered.
But they held the line.
Zayn blasted the pod. Rayna launched Kael upward.
Kael shouted:
"Nova Strike—Override Mode!"
His blade ignited, crackling with combined team energy. He struck Noctira directly—shattering her shield and knocking her mask free.
She shrieked and vanished in black mist, the lair collapsing around them.
Zayn secured the remaining virus sample.
Zevor (relieved): "Excellent. I can synthesize a full cure."
They escaped just before the facility imploded.
Back at the Nova Chamber, Lyra and Jett finally took deep breaths—free, truly this time.
Kael: "You two good?"Lyra: "Yeah. Still got a few shadows to shake off."Jett: "But I'm still me. That's the win."
Far above, a new ripple of Void energy shimmered.
A voice whispered through the stars:
"So… they've survived the virus. Let's see how they handle betrayal."
