Chapter 138: 138. Wood Industry
"Mr. Liu, here is the information about the wood processing factories you asked me to check last time. I've selected the ones with potential value for you to consider." Oliver placed the documents on the table.
Jason Liu nodded, picking up the paperwork. The documents detailed wood processing factories in Zheng City and nearby areas.
Ironwood Timber Co: Registered capital of 20 million yuan, fixed assets of 15.1 million yuan, liabilities of 22 million yuan. Located in the outer suburbs of Hui District, Zheng City.
Northcrest Lumberworks: Registered capital of 10 million yuan, fixed assets of 11 million yuan, liabilities of 5 million yuan. Located in Xinxian County.
Greenheart Mills: Registered capital of 8 million yuan, fixed assets of 5 million yuan, liabilities of 1 million yuan. Located in Jinqi District, Zheng City.
Jason skimmed over the options, skipping those outside Zheng City. He preferred to acquire a factory closer to reduce transportation costs.
"What's the situation with this Ironwood Timber Factory?" Jason asked, focusing on the details about Ironwood Wood.
Oliver thought for a moment before answering, "Iron Wood has been struggling because the cost of importing logs internationally has been rising steadily over the years. Their operations have halted completely. I also heard the factory owner is desperately looking for someone to take over."
"Why is the business in trouble?" Jason asked, curious.
Oliver hesitated briefly before explaining, "From what I've heard, the owner lost a lot of money in the stock market this year. This caused cash flow problems, and the factory couldn't pay its bills. The bank refused to lend more money, and they even owe their workers over a month's wages."
Jason couldn't help but shake his head. "Stocks? Why gamble in finance when you're running an industry? No wonder the banks won't touch him now. He's just made himself a mess."
Without further hesitation, Jason instructed, "Get in touch with the owner of Iron Wood. Let's discuss the terms. If the price is fair, we'll buy the factory."
Oliver nodded but hesitated for a moment. "Mr. Liu, I must say, the international log prices are rising quickly. Getting into the wood processing business now might not be the best move..."
Jason raised an eyebrow, silently judging Oliver's cautious nature. No wonder this man wasn't a leader in his previous job. Still, Jason didn't want to hear more negativity. "I've already considered that. Just contact the owner and set up the meeting."
Realizing there was no convincing Jason, Oliver complied, though he still felt uneasy about the decision.
Edric, the owner of Iron Wood, quickly agreed to meet after receiving the call. He sounded eager, as though he couldn't wait to unload his burdens.
Within an hour, Edric arrived at Fusion Trading, accompanied by the factory's financial officer. Oliver escorted them to Jason's office, where Jason greeted them with a polite smile and invited them to sit on the sofa.
Lin Xiaohan, Fusion Trading's finance manager, joined the meeting to assist with negotiations. Samantha from the personnel department brought coffee before leaving the room and closing the door.
The discussion about acquiring Iron Wood Industry officially began.
"Mr. Liu, I'll get straight to the point. You must already know the situation with Iron Wood. I've approached several people in Zheng City over the past months, but no one is willing to take over the factory. My reputation has become a joke among business circles," Edric admitted, his tone bitter.
Edric, though only in his early forties, looked worn out from his recent troubles. "If you're really interested, I'm offering the factory for 8 million yuan. You'll also need to take on the factory's 22 million yuan in debts and cover the wages owed to the workers. That's my bottom line. I can't go any lower."
Jason leaned back in his chair, silently contemplating the offer. Lin Xiaohan quickly calculated the factory's assets, debts, and intangible value. Based on her assessment, the price seemed reasonable, indicating the seller was sincere.
Oliver, however, sipped his coffee quietly. He still doubted the wisdom of this acquisition and didn't feel optimistic about the wood industry's future.
Jason broke the silence with a practical question. "How many workers are still with the factory? If I take over, how quickly can operations resume?"
He wanted to avoid buying a factory that lacked workers, as it would delay production and waste time.
The financial officer of Iron Wood, seated beside Edric, answered confidently, "Don't worry, Mr. Liu. Although the factory hasn't been operating for a few months, most workers are still on standby and willing to return once we reopen."
Hearing this, Jason felt more reassured. If the workforce was intact, restarting production wouldn't be an issue.
Jason nodded, indicating his understanding. He had already heard about Iron Wood's situation from various sources. It was common knowledge in Zheng City's business community that Edric's factory was failing. No one wanted to take the risk of acquiring it, especially given the current economic uncertainty.
But Jason wasn't like the others. Thanks to his resources in Westeros, he had access to an abundant supply of cheap logs—practically free. He didn't need to worry about high material costs like others in the industry.
By the afternoon, the two parties finalized the deal at Fusion Trading's . Under the agreement, Fusion Trading acquired Iron Wood Industry for 8 million yuan, assuming its 22 million yuan in debts. Jason also injected an additional 10 million yuan into Fusion Trading to cover future expenses.
After signing the contracts and transferring the money, Jason instructed Lin Xiaohan and Oliver to oversee the handover of the factory. From that moment, Iron Wood became a subsidiary of Yuansen Trading.
With those arrangements in place, Jason received another call later that afternoon from Simon. The medicines Jason had ordered had arrived at the warehouse and were ready for pickup.
Jason drove to the warehouse himself, directing the truck driver to unload the five boxes of medicines into storage. Though Justin, who managed the construction site, offered to help, Jason declined. It wasn't a heavy task, and he could handle it easily.
The medicines were stored securely in the warehouse, completing another day of progress for Jason Liu.
