Chapter 139: 139. Receiving Factory
After leaving the warehouse, Jason Liu found himself free for the afternoon. So, he drove to the Iron Wood Industry Timber Processing Factory located on the outskirts of the District.
Upon hearing the news that the factory had been acquired, many workers rushed back to see what was happening. Four managers from Fusion Trading—Lin Xiaohan, Oliver, Regina, and Jiang Chuchu—were already on-site. Alongside them were Lucas from the Purchasing Department and Daniel from Sales.
The only staff left at the main company office were Emily from Finance and Samantha from Personnel Management. Since things at the company weren't too busy, most employees had come to assist with the factory's transition.
By the time Jason arrived, Lin Xiaohan and the others had already begun reviewing the accounts and reassuring the workers. They promised that within two weeks, the overdue wages—unpaid for over a month—would be deposited into the workers' accounts. This assurance helped calm everyone down.
"Mr. Liu, this is George, the deputy director of the factory," said the former owner as he introduced an older man, probably in his 50s or 60s. "He's been managing the factory since it was established, over 20 years ago!"
Jason shook hands with George, a short, dark-skinned man, and said with a smile, "Director George, I'll rely on you to continue running the factory."
Jason didn't plan to bring in an outsider to manage the factory. George's experience and familiarity with the operations meant production could restart quickly. However, Jason decided that he would monitor things to ensure the deputy director managed the factory honestly and effectively.
"Thank you, Mr. Liu. I'll do my best and won't let you down!" George said, clearly happy about the arrangement.
Later, Jason asked Edric and Regina about George's performance. Their assessment was fair: "He's capable. Like most managers, he probably takes small perks here and there, but nothing excessive or damaging to the business."
Jason nodded. He knew it was impossible to eliminate such practices entirely, but he planned to send staff regularly to oversee operations and improve management to reduce these issues.
With George confirmed as the factory manager, Jason instructed him to notify all workers to resume production immediately. Jason then toured the factory with Lin Xiaohan and the others.
The visit left him satisfied. The equipment—saws, dryers, grinders, and more—was in decent condition. With some maintenance, the machines could run for several more years without major problems.
"Let's celebrate tonight with a company dinner," Jason announced with a smile. "Manager Ma, let everyone know they can join if they're free, but no one is obligated to come."
Jason wanted the dinner to be enjoyable and voluntary, not something employees felt forced to attend. He remembered how he had felt as a small employee in the past, dreading events that interrupted his personal time.
Regina quickly spread the word, and that evening, they gathered at a popular barbecue restaurant in the Trade Center. The private room was large enough to accommodate most of Fusion Trading's employees.
As everyone settled in, Jason addressed the group. "I understand how awkward these events can feel sometimes. Back in the day, I attended dinners like this, worried my absence might annoy my boss. I don't want anyone here to feel that way. If you ever need to miss a company event, don't hesitate to skip it. Your time is your own!"
His lighthearted words made the group laugh, and Jiang Chuchu chimed in, "Exactly! I almost didn't come tonight. Sometimes it's better to eat on your own than sit through an evening of flattery!"
Her bold comment broke the ice even further, and the group relaxed. Jason laughed, pretending to defend himself. "Hey! Don't accuse me of wanting flattery—I'm just here to treat you all to a good meal!"
Lin Xiaohan added, "We're just reminding you, Boss Liu, to stay humble!"
The playful banter continued throughout the evening, making for a fun and casual atmosphere. After dinner, everyone went their separate ways. Jiang Chuchu jokingly suggested shopping afterward, but Jason quickly declined.
"Shopping with you ladies? No way. I'd end up exhausted!" he laughed as he got into his car and headed home.
The following morning, Jason received a call from Vice President of Guardian Auctions, who had flown in from another City. Jason initially offered to pick him up, but he declined, saying their company's local office would send a car. Jason provided the address of his villa in Forest Peninsula and waited for their arrival.
While waiting, Jason also contacted Mingde Law Firm to request a business lawyer to assist with the upcoming contract negotiations. The law firm promptly sent Richard, a well-known and reliable attorney.
When Lawyer Richard arrived, Jason personally welcomed him into the villa. "Please, come in and have a seat. They haven't arrived yet," Jason said warmly.
Jason felt relieved to have such a skilled lawyer on his side as he prepared to finalize the deal with Guardian Auctions.
