Chapter 147: 147. Ed's plan
Just like his second son, Brandon Stark, who shared the same name as his older brother, Ed Stark couldn't help but think of Jon. This name reminded him not only of his adoptive father, Jon Arryn, but also of the posthumous son, Jon Snow, that his sister Lyanna had left behind. Jon Snow, the child, was also someone Ed worried about.
When Ed heard that Jason East, a man from the Far Eastern Empire who claimed to be the Earl of Starfire City, had knighted Jon and accepted his allegiance, he was shocked.
While Ed didn't often involve himself directly with Jon, he knew him to be an upright, strong, honorable young man with strong opinions. Knowing that Jon had chosen to serve an Eastern Lord, Ed became even more curious about Jason East.
He decided he needed to speak with Jon directly. Although Ed didn't oppose Jon's decision, he was eager to understand Jon's reasoning. It was one of the few things Ed felt he could do for him. Perhaps, it was also the right time to meet Jason East.
When Robb told him that Jason had been waiting for the right moment to visit him, Ed grew curious. After all, since Jon had become a knight under Jason's service, there must be some connection between them. This could mean an alliance with the East family for the Stark family, a relationship that would certainly spark some attention.
The connection between the Stark family and the East family was not something that could be easily dismissed. Anyone who knew that Ed Stark's illegitimate son had become a loyal knight of the East family would naturally assume that the two families had a deep bond.
Ed wondered whether Jason had recruited Jon purely to gain the Stark family's favor. While it wasn't necessarily fair to assume such things, Ed, who had been the Duke of Winterfell for more than a decade, felt that this possibility was worth considering.
So, Ed decided he would find out for himself by meeting Jason personally.
The next day, Jason Liu returned to his warehouse and received a special order for four sets of stab-resistant suits and swords. Two of the suits were gold, while the other two were silver. The scabbards of the swords were embedded with stones about the size of soybeans, which sparkled more than any gem. The hilts were adorned with rounded red zirconia stones, as large as a thumb.
These four swords were clearly luxurious and incredibly valuable. The hilts of two swords were engraved with the golden crowned stag of the Baratheon family, while the other two had a silver direwolf at the top of their hilts.
When drawn, the blades were smooth and shiny, with exquisite texture. Not only did they look stunning, but they were made of high-carbon steel, ensuring they were also very sharp. Though not as good as Jason's own titanium alloy Starfire sword, they were still of superior quality compared to the regular swords soldiers used.
In Westeros, these swords were among the best, second only to Valyrian steel.
These swords and suits were intended as gifts for King Robert, Joffrey, Ed Stark, and Robb Stark. Jason hoped that these carefully chosen gifts would help him achieve his goals.
After admiring the extravagant swords for a while, Jason Liu placed them back in a long wooden box, specially made by Brilliant Props. He teleported them directly to the castle's warehouse before returning to modern times.
Since his phone couldn't work in Westeros, he had missed a message from his studio. The message informed him that four custom-made dresses for the Noble Medal had been completed and were on their way from the manufacturer.
Now, only one thing was left—his custom four-wheeled carriage from Carriage Factory.
Jason thought for a moment before sending a message to the factory:
Jason Liu: How long until my custom wagon is ready?
Henry, from the sales department at Carriage Factory, saw the message from one of their major customers and quickly replied:
Henry: Hello, Mr. Liu. The five large four-wheeled carriages you ordered are in the process of being assembled. The only things left are the paintwork and decorative patterns. The smaller carriages are being adjusted for production. The large carriages will be ready in about two days, and you can come to check them out in person.
Jason Liu: Okay, please notify me when the large carriages are finished. After that, I'll arrange a time to see them.
Henry: Of course, Mr. Liu. We look forward to your visit!
Jason Liu decided not to return to Westeros that day. Instead, he drove around the high-tech zone, had a quick street lunch, and brought some fried noodles to Lin Xiaohan and Jiang Chuchu. Afterward, he went to the Science and Technology Building.
"Mr. Liu, hello!" Samantha, from the Personnel Management Department, had just finished work and was on her way to have a meal. When she saw Jason Liu carrying a box, she greeted him with a smile.
"Hello!" Jason Liu nodded, recognizing the young woman from the Personnel Department. "Heading to lunch?" he asked casually.
"Yes, I just got off work, and I'm going to the staff cafeteria " she replied. Her eyes then wandered to the box Jason Liu was holding, and she smiled, "Mr. Liu, is that for Lin? Did you bring lunch for the manager?"
Jason Liu shook his head. "I already had lunch, but I remembered that Lin Xiaohan and Jiang Chuchu might not have eaten yet, so I brought them some fried noodles." Realizing that Samantha hadn't eaten, he suddenly felt guilty for not offering her some. "Would you like to have some?"
Samantha saw his awkwardness and knew he was just being polite. She smiled mischievously and said, "Sure! It saves me from going to the cafeteria, and if the boss got it, it must be good!"
Jason Liu paused, surprised that she accepted his offer. He wasn't sure how to react—he wasn't expecting her to say yes. Holding the bag of noodles in his hand, he stood there, unsure of what to do next.
Seeing his confusion, Samantha couldn't help but laugh internally. It was amusing to tease a straightforward boss like him. No wonder Manager Jiang always teased him during their meals together.
