Chapter 7: Arrived in Mondstadt And Against Dvalin
The three of them set off to Mondstadt City.
'Traveler, your mastery over the Anemo element is truly impressive. It seems even comparable to the Acting Grand Master.'
'As Paimon said, that Traveler is really great.'
'Yes, sorry for doubting you earlier, Paimon.'
'Hehe, but Amber, who is this Acting Grand Master?'
'She's Jean. Actually, she's the Deputy Master, but recently the Grand Master appointed her as Acting Grand Master since the Grand Master has gone on an expedition.'
'Is this something you can share, Amber?' Aether asked.
'Of course, everyone in Mondstadt knows about it.'
'Then Amber, can Acting Grand Master Jean do what Traveler can do?'
'I'm not sure how to answer that, because the Acting Grand Master's use of Anemo is more focused on healing rather than attacking.'
'Wow, how does she do that?'
'I don't really know, but it seems like a combination of her family's techniques and elemental power.'
'That does make some sense.'
'Then Amber, earlier you said the Hilichurls are getting closer to the city. Have you found the cause?' Aether asked.
'Earlier, I mentioned a dragon that has been appearing recently, right?'
Aether and Paimon nodded.
'We call that dragon Stormterror.'
'Because of its appearances, many of our fruit orchards have been destroyed, and as a result, the local market has been thrown into chaos. Not only that, but recently some people have also been injured because its appearances always cause storms.'
'So that's why you call it Stormterror,' Paimon said.
Amber nodded and continued,
'Because of that, many of the knights who were supposed to be patrolling the wild have had to return to Mondstadt to help drive the dragon away.'
'As a result, the Hilichurls, who should be far out in the wilderness, have started moving towards the city since there are no knights left to hold them back.'
The three of them continued talking, and without realizing it, they had arrived just outside of Mondstadt City.
'Wow, when you look at it up close, the wall is really high.'
'This wall is about nine meters tall, so of course, it looks very high.'
'Come on, I'll take you to the post to get permission to enter Mondstadt freely.'
Amber then walked ahead, crossing the stone bridge that connected to Mondstadt. The two of them followed Amber behind her.
Aether looked around, and he didn't see that annoying kid. Maybe because the situation wasn't safe, that annoying kid wasn't staying around the stone bridge.
When they arrived at the post, there were many merchants lining up to enter the city and leave the city, but it seemed there were more people wanting to leave the city.
Meanwhile, the Knights of Favonius were recording everyone who wanted to enter or leave. It wasn't to block the merchants from leaving the city, but to follow the rules which required them to record everyone entering and exiting.
'If this were a normal day, there would be more merchants wanting to enter the city than leave it.'
'But this can be understood, since the city is in a precarious situation and could be attacked by the dragon at any time.'
Aether and Paimon couldn't respond to Amber's words, because they had already encountered Dvalin, whom they called Stormterror, and they understood why Dvalin was acting this way.
All they could do was wait for Venti to return, and only then would they be able to heal Dvalin.
As a member of the Knights of Favonius, Amber didn't need to line up with the merchants. The same went for Aether and Paimon, so they walked inside, and Amber spoke to a Knight of Favonius who was resting.
After a while, Amber was done and invited them to enter Mondstadt.
'Let me officially introduce it. This city is also known as the City of Winds, the City of Music, and the City of Freedom.'
'Welcome to Mondstadt, Traveler and Paimon.'
The city was vast, that's what Aether thought at the moment.
Although compared to modern cities from his previous life and other planets he had visited, this city wasn't particularly large, but compared to the Mondstadt he remembered from the Genshin Impact game, this Mondstadt was at least five times bigger.
Even though Mondstadt was called the City of Freedom, it didn't mean people here could do anything freely, like being naked in public, stealing, littering, and so on.
The freedom here meant that every citizen had a status of 'free' and wasn't a 'slave' to the nobility.
The city's government, run by the Knights of Favonius, wasn't overly strict and didn't impose excessive rules. Mondstadt also highly valued music and art, as it was a part of their freedom.
'Finally, we don't have to camp anymore. Right, Traveler?'
'Oh, so does that mean you didn't feel comfortable with the camp I set up earlier, Paimon?'
'No, that's not it. You know, we've been out in the wild for so long. Paimon just wants to sleep in a proper room again.'
'Alright, alright, I understand.'
'But, your face doesn't show that, Traveler!'
'You two are really close, huh?' Amber said.
'Come on, I'll take you to the Knights of Favonius Headquarters, but before that, I'll give you a reward, Traveler, for helping earlier.'
'Let's go somewhere a little higher.'
'Oh, a reward! Will Paimon get one too, Amber?'
'This reward isn't useful for you, Paimon, but I'll treat you to some Mondstadt specialties.'
'Ooh, I can't wait!'
'Forget about the reward for now, Amber. These people don't seem to be in a good mood,' Aether said.
'Yes, you know that most of Mondstadt's citizens rely on the income from farming. Since many of the orchards were destroyed, their income has decreased significantly.'
'As citizens of Mondstadt, which is also known as the City of Wine, it's natural for them to drink and get drunk. But since their income has dropped, they also have to start cutting back on drinking.'
'And for the people of Mondstadt, this is really difficult, so that's why many are in a bad mood.'
'Emm, how should I put it, it seems like they're not really worried about Dva... I mean, Stormterror, right?' Paimon asked.
'Because they trust us, the Knights of Favonius, to protect them,' Amber said.
'I like your spirit, Amber,' Aether said.
'Then, where are we going?' he asked.
'We're going to the square in front of the Favonius Cathedral, which is located at the highest point of Mondstadt.'
'Alright, then.'
Aether walked closer to Amber and said,
'Sorry, Amber, Paimon, hold on too.' Aether then embraced Amber like a princess, while Paimon wrapped her arms around Aether's neck, just like last time in the forest.
Amber was confused as to why Aether suddenly embraced her, but it was soon answered, as they began to fly.
No, more precisely, Aether jumped into the air, and every time they were about to fall, Aether would jump again, allowing them to fly higher and higher.
After jumping more than ten times, they finally reached the square. In the square stood a massive statue about 20 meters tall. The statue depicted the Anemo God Barbatos, different from the one in Cider Lake. This statue had wings spread out and arms raised in prayer towards the sky.
Aether then lowered Amber, who looked very confused. Of course, the reason Amber was confused was that she had never imagined experiencing something like this. While she often flew, it was always with equipment, and she had to jump from a high place first. But the flight Aether did was different, as every time they almost fell, Aether would jump again.
Her heart would race from the excitement, and she even unconsciously screamed in joy because of the adrenaline rush. The last time she had felt something like this was when she first learned to fly using the Wind Glider.
'Amber?'
'Amber?!' yelled Paimon.
'Ah, yes!'
'Are you okay?'
'Because we've been calling you, and you didn't respond at all.'
'Ah... I'm fine, I was just a little too excited thinking about the flight earlier.'
'Traveler, did you use the Anemo Element to do that?'
'Yes.'
'Ah, what a pity. If only I had an Anemo Vision. Maybe I could learn from you.'
Hearing Amber's words about wanting an Anemo Vision, Aether found it a bit strange. Although he was still a new player, he knew about the myth surrounding Anemo Vision holders in the community. Most of them were people who had experienced the loss of a close relative. And this was proven when he saw the profile of an Adeptus named Xiao.
'Forget about having an Anemo Vision for now. We're here now. What do we do next, Amber?'
'Ah, about that, I think the gift I wanted to give you might not be very useful to you, Traveler,' Amber said while scratching her cheek.
'Hmm?'
'Eh, why?' asked Paimon.
'Is the gift related to some kind of flying device, Amber?'
'Yes.'
Amber then took out a device from her Vision, which looked like wings with a black and brown color.
'This is a Wind Glider, and this one is called the Wings of First Flight. Try it, Traveler.'
Aether then took it from Amber's hands and attached it to his shoulders. He then tried to see if he could wear it instantly like his clothes, and it turned out there was no problem doing so.
'Thank you, Amber. I like it, and also, remember this, Amber. It doesn't matter whether this gift is useful or not. What's important is who gave it. Since it's from you, Amber, this gift will be special to me.'
'Alright, I understand, Traveler,' she replied with a smile.
'Honestly, Amber, I should be the one giving you a gift, for helping me enter Mondstadt. But right now, I don't have anything, so please be patient for a moment.'
'Yes, I'll wait, Traveler.'
'Paimon wants one too, Traveler.'
'Of course.'
'So, how do you use this Wind Glider, Amber?'
'Actually, it's not too difficult, and you should be able to master it easily. But just to be safe, listen to my instructions, okay, Traveler?'
'Alright.'
The three of them then walked toward the fence and climbed it. From here, they could see the entire area of Mondstadt.
'Do you see the fountain over there, Traveler?'
'The fountain in the market district?'
'Yes, that's our destination.'
'Alright.'
'Then I'll go first. Follow me, Traveler and Paimon.'
'Okay,' both replied.
Amber then took out her Wind Glider from her Vision. After putting it on, she jumped off the fence, and Aether followed her, with Paimon floating beside them.
While gliding, Amber began explaining how to use the Wind Glider and the requirements to be able to use it freely in Mondstadt.
The requirement was to have a gliding license, although Amber said that it probably wasn't too important for his.
After a few minutes, they finally arrived at the Market District, and something happened. The sky suddenly grew dark, and the wind started to pick up.
In the distance, they heard the sound of something flying at high speed. Then, a dragon appeared with a roar. The dragon was none other than Dvalin, also known as Stormterror by the people of Mondstadt.
With each flap of its wings, the wind grew stronger in Mondstadt. Dvalin then began flying low over the city. His body collided several times with tall buildings, causing parts of those buildings to crumble and fly toward the Market District.
This caused people in the Market District to panic. Aether immediately took action, drawing his sword. He then covered it with Anemo Element and leaped toward the destroyed parts, cutting them to pieces with his sword.
After circling a few times, Dvalin flew back into the sky, roaring toward Mondstadt. Then, from the sky, several tornadoes appeared, attacking the city.
Starting from the highest square, the tornadoes spread across all of Mondstadt, including the Market District.
Seeing one of the tornadoes chasing him for some reason, Aether quickly threw Amber away and was then sucked into the tornado, flying into the sky.
In the sky, he could see the chaos caused by the tornadoes in Mondstadt, but miraculously, no buildings were being lifted. It was either because of the strong foundations of Mondstadt's buildings or the protection provided by Venti.
As Aether continued to jump gently using Anemo Element on his feet, he heard the sound of Dvalin flying behind him. He immediately jumped high, as Dvalin seemed to be about to attack or bite him.
After failing, Dvalin flew away but stayed near the sky above Mondstadt. Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice—none other than Paimon.
'Traveler!!!'
'Paimon?'
Paimon quickly approached Aether.
'Why are you here, Paimon?'
'Hurry down, it's very dangerous here.'
'But what about you, Traveler?'
'Since Venti isn't here, I need to find a way to stop this and drive Dvalin away.'
'If we don't, even if we manage to save Dvalin, the wounds he's caused to the people of Mondstadt won't disappear, and it will be hard to restore his reputation.'
'But Traveler, how are we going to do that?'
'It's difficult to defeat him directly in my current condition, so I can only attack from a distance.'
Aether then took out his third weapon, a pair of silver and black pistols.
'After I attack him, come down quickly, Paimon.'
Aether then shot at Dvalin with both pistols. Although they were called pistols, they didn't fire bullets, but elemental attacks. Since Aether only had Anemo Element, his shots were infused with Anemo.
Unlike polearms or swords, which are more focused on cutting, the attacks from his pistols were more focused on disruption and control. But despite that, each shot was very powerful, and many enemies were immediately destroyed when hit.
Each shot that hit the enemy created a shockwave, and that's exactly what happened to Dvalin. The shockwave caused him to scream in pain and also made him angry.
Dvalin flew toward Aether and Paimon again, this time intending to tear them apart with his claws. Of course, Aether kept dodging while holding Paimon, occasionally shooting at Dvalin.
Paimon, who was being held by Aether, felt guilty. If only she had come down as Aether had suggested earlier, maybe Aether wouldn't have to deal with this mess.
If Aether knew what Paimon was thinking, he would only laugh. Although he was having a hard time, situations like this had happened before, like when he was fighting enemies while protecting his younger sister.
The chase in the air continued for a few minutes, and eventually, Aether had used too much Anemo Element and became exhausted. But he didn't give up, as the wind whispered to him, saying that help had arrived.
'Sorry for being late, Traveler.'
A voice was heard—it was none other than Venti.
'Venti!' Paimon shouted while looking around.
'You don't need to worry about using up your elemental power anymore, Traveler, because I will bestow my blessing on you for a while.'
As Venti finished speaking, the abundant Anemo Element gathered around Aether's body, and with it, his fatigue vanished.
He didn't need to jump anymore, as he could now fly for a while.
'I missed this feeling.'
He said while checking his body filled with power, then opened the status panel and saved it to check later.
Aether then disappeared with Paimon and reappeared in the square.
'Paimon, wait for me here.'
He said, then vanished again and reappeared in the sky.
'Now, let's finish this, Dvalin.'
Although he wanted to use martial arts to fight, his current condition wouldn't last long. So, he decided to abandon that idea and drew his claymore.
The claymore had a straight silver blade with a blue hilt, adorned with a half-circle design pointing toward the sword's blade.
The sword was none other than Excalibur. Of course, it wasn't the real Excalibur from the Fate Series, but just a replica. The reason for this was that he was a user of the Light Element.
So, it made sense that he would have Excalibur, right? And also, when he made it, he didn't know he had been reincarnated into the Genshin Impact Universe, where a system was intent on showcasing his journey.
As for the copyright issue regarding Excalibur, which looked exactly like the Excalibur from the Fate Series, he'd leave it up to the system to handle.
The abundant Anemo Element began gathering around Excalibur, and it continued to increase.
'Um, Traveler, you don't intend to kill Dvalin, right?' Venti asked.
'No.'
'But the Anemo Element gathered in that claymore is overwhelming, and if it hits Dvalin, I'm afraid...'
'Don't worry, I will dull the attack, and it will only push him away. The reason I'm gathering so much Anemo Element is to also disperse the storm in the sky.'
'If you say so, then alright.'
After feeling it was enough, Aether raised Excalibur parallel to his chest with both hands and aimed it at the sky as if praying.
'Let Mondstadt once again enjoy the beauty of sunlight.'
He then looked toward Dvalin, who was flying toward him, and tilted Excalibur sideways as he intended to strike horizontally.
He also did not forget to shout those iconic line when about to attack, which were none other than
'EX..CALIBURR..!'
