Genshin Impact : I became a Traveler?

Chapter 8: Knight Of Favonius

The Anemo element, in the form of a powerful high-pressure wave, struck Dvalin's body with immense force and instantly sent him soaring into the sky.

Not only that, but all the storm clouds in the sky vanished as a result of this attack.

Even powerful individuals in the neighboring nations of Mondstadt felt the impact of this attack, such as a black-haired man with yellow eyes who was sipping tea while listening to a tale.

He lifted his head and looked toward Mondstadt.

'Barbatos?'

'No, this feeling is slightly different. Though powerful, it does not contain divine energy. What exactly is happening in Mondstadt?' he pondered.

He then finished his tea and stood up from his seat, an action that surprised those around him.

After all, he had never once left his seat until the entire story was finished.

'Please continue, Tea Master Liu Su. I just remembered that I have something to take care of.'

'Very well, sir. I hope your business is resolved quickly.'

He nodded in agreement and then walked out of the shop. Moments later, he arrived at a street crowded with people.

Despite the bustling crowd, no one seemed to notice him. He kept walking and spoke to himself.

'The order of the world is about to change. I do not know what kind of transformation will come, but this change will undoubtedly affect Liyue as well.'

'In facing this change, will Liyue endure, or will it not?'

'Because now, it is time to sign the contract that will end all contracts.'

After saying that, he slowly disappeared into the crowd.

--------------------------------

As Aether said, let the city of Mondstadt once again enjoy the beauty of the sunlight.

The storm clouds above Mondstadt had disappeared, sunlight illuminated the city, and the chaos had finally come to an end.

In the sky, Aether spoke with Venti for a moment before slowly descending to the plaza.

The plaza was now filled with the citizens of Mondstadt. Though they stood at a distance, as the area within 20 meters of the Statue of the Anemo Archon, Barbatos, was being guarded by the Knights of Favonius.

Aether slowly landed in the guarded area, and cheers erupted from the citizens. However, he paid little attention to the cheers and instead focused on a few individuals standing near Paimon and Amber.

The first was a man slightly shorter than him, with tanned skin, dark blue hair, and an eyepatch covering his right eye.

The second was a girl shorter than Amber, with fair skin and grayish-blue eyes. Her light ash-blonde hair was tied into two high ponytails that curled downward.

And lastly, there was a tall woman, around 180 cm in height, with fair skin and green eyes. She wore a signature purple witch's hat on her head, and her light brown wavy hair gave off an elegant Onee-san aura.

He recognized all three of them—none other than Kaeya, Barbara, and Lisa. He could understand why Kaeya and Lisa were there, but he was a bit unsure about Barbara.

Did he perhaps think that I was the Anemo Archon, Barbatos?

'Traveler, are you okay?' Paimon asked.

'Just a little tired. By the way, who are they, Paimon, Amber?'

'This is Kaeya, this is Miss Lisa, and this is Barbara,' Amber replied.

Kaeya then stepped forward and said,

'Thank you for saving Mondstadt. If I may ask, how should I address you?'

'Traveler or Anemo Archon Barbatos?'

As he asked that, Barbara became slightly nervous.

'...'

'Do you all think that I am Barbatos?'

Except Paimon, all of them nodded at Aether's question

'Aside from the Anemo Archon Barbatos, no one has ever been seen controlling the Anemo element like that,' Lisa answered.

As a witch highly proficient in elemental power, she could feel that the Anemo element in the air was continuously being absorbed into the body of the man before her.

Even she, who had mastered the Electro element to a considerable degree, could not absorb an element directly into her body and had to rely on her Vision.

In her view, only an Archon could do such a thing.

'Unfortunately, I am not the Anemo Archon. I am merely a wanderer from a rather distant place.'

'Paimon already told them, but they still don't believe it, Traveler!'

'But... why can you wield the Anemo element so masterfully? Just like the Anemo Archon?' Barbara asked.

Aether then looked at Barbara. From the tone of her question, she seemed disappointed that he was not the Anemo Archon. As far as he remembered, Barbara was a devout—perhaps even fanatical—follower of the Anemo Archon.

He wondered what kind of reaction she would have upon discovering that Venti was actually the Anemo Archon.

'There are some special circumstances, but this isn't the right place for me to explain them.'

'Can we discuss this somewhere more private?'

'We can do it at the Knights of Favonius Headquarters,' Kaeya suggested.

'Alright.'

After that, they made their way toward the Knights of Favonius Headquarters. Along the way, the citizens of Mondstadt continued to cheer for Aether as if he were the Anemo Archon.

However, what truly left him speechless was the fact that among the cheering crowd, he spotted a familiar figure—none other than Archon Anemo himself.

After walking for ten minutes, they finally arrived at the Knights of Favonius Headquarters. Upon entering, they approached a room where Lisa knocked on the door before speaking.

'Jean, we're back.'

She then opened the door and stepped inside, with the others following behind her.

Inside the room, Aether saw the people waiting for them. He recognized every single one of them.

Not only that, but apart from Amber and Barbara, he couldn't see the status of anyone else in the room. This meant that everyone here was at least above Level 65.

Lisa then proceeded to introduce everyone in the room to Aether and Paimon.

The first was Jean. She was slightly taller than Lisa, with fair skin and grayish-blue eyes. Her blonde hair was tied into a high ponytail. She bore a strong resemblance to Barbara, as the two were sisters.

The second was Eula. She was taller than both Jean and Lisa, with pale skin and eyes that were a mix of purple and yellow. Her light blue hair was cut unevenly.

The last was Albedo. He wasn't very tall, standing around 170 cm. He had bright teal-blue eyes and pale blonde hair that reached his shoulders.

Considering that the Grand Master and other powerful figures were not in Mondstadt at the moment, the people gathered in this room were the most influential members of the Knights of Favonius—except for Amber and Barbara.

To be honest, Aether hadn't expected Albedo to be here. As far as he remembered—whether from the game or what he had read on Wikipedia—Albedo spent most of his time in Dragonspine.

But upon recalling what Albedo was researching in Dragonspine, it made sense that he would be here.

Lisa then explained the conversation from the plaza to everyone, including the reason for Aether's visit to Mondstadt. After that, Jean approached Aether hesitantly and asked,

'Forgive me, but are you really not the Anemo Archon?'

'Yes, I am not him. The reason I was able to use the Anemo element to that extent in my final attack was because the Anemo Archon blessed me.'

'You… received a blessing from the Anemo Archon?'

'Yes, but the blessing was temporary, and I used all of it in that attack.'

'Did Stormterror die from that attack?'

'No, he may be injured, but he is still alive.'

'Then… have you met the Anemo Archon, Traveler?'

Upon hearing this question, everyone in the room eagerly awaited Aether's answer.

'Yes.'

'If that's the case, then why…' Barbara muttered softly.

Even so, her words were heard by everyone.

'Has the God… abandoned us?' Jean said.

The room fell silent at the words of the two sisters.

'Seeing your reactions, it seems like you already know the true identity of Stormterror, don't you?'

'Yes, Stormterror is one of the Four Winds Guardians, named Dvalin,' Lisa replied.

'Then you should also know the reason why he disappeared all this time, right?'

'Yes. After discovering that Stormterror was Dvalin, we began investigating old records. The reason for Dvalin's disappearance is related to the great battle 500 years ago against a dragon named Durin.'

'Most likely, after killing Durin, Dvalin was wounded and vanished to heal himself.'

Lisa then turned to Albedo, signaling him to continue, as he was the one who had studied Durin the most.

'Durin was an extremely dangerous dragon. Even after his death, he still caused major changes to Dragonspine.'

'Records state that Dvalin killed Durin by tearing his throat apart, but the details of the battle are unclear.'

'Judging from the changes that occurred in Dragonspine, it is possible that Dvalin also underwent similar changes. However, what those changes were, we do not know.'

'After disappearing for more than 500 years, Dvalin finally returned. But by then, the people of Mondstadt had forgotten him. Perhaps out of disappointment, he began attacking Mondstadt,' Lisa added.

'You have already uncovered most of the story, but there is something missing. I will add to it based on what the Anemo Archon told me.'

'Dvalin became like this because he accidentally swallowed Durin's blood during their battle. And Durin's blood is not only highly toxic—it also contains Abyssal energy!'

'Abyss?!'

They were shocked upon hearing this, as they hadn't expected this to be the true story. Not everyone in the room fully understood how dangerous Abyssal energy was—like Amber and Barbara—but the others knew very well.

'So Dvalin's madness is confirmed to be caused by this Abyssal energy?' Jean asked.

'Yes.'

'The Anemo Archon actually tried to heal Dvalin but failed because he was interrupted. You should know who I'm referring to, right?'

'The Abyss Order..!'

Aether nodded.

'Because of the torment caused by Durin's blood, Dvalin's emotions became unstable. When he returned to Mondstadt after so long, the people had forgotten him and even drove him away.'

'Since his emotions were unstable, the Abyss Order took advantage of this to manipulate him.'

'I see… The Abyss Order must have guided Dvalin to draw power from the Four Wind Temples, which have now become his source of strength. With that power, the Abyss Order wants to see Dvalin destroy the place he once protected,' Jean said.

'Source of strength?'

'So Dvalin wasn't always this powerful?' Paimon asked.

'Although we've never seen Dvalin's true strength, the previous storms were connected to the power of the four temples.'

'But now the storms are gone,' Paimon added.

The others looked toward Aether, expecting an answer.

'Even though I've dispelled the storms, I'm not sure whether the power of the four temples is still connected to Dvalin. But it would be best to check.'

Jean nodded and then said,

'Eula and Amber, you two go to the Falcon Temple.'

'Albedo, take Sucrose with you to the Lion Temple.'

'Kaeya, head to the Wolf Temple. You can handle it alone, right?'

'Barbara, return to the Church for now. Many people may have been injured by the previous storm, and they need you there.'

'As for Lisa, come with me. We need to prevent certain people from acting recklessly. After the recent attack, they'll be even more eager to interfere.'

Jean then turned to Aether.

'As for you, Traveler, you look exhausted. Would you like to rest here for a while?'

'Thank you, I'll accept it,' Aether replied.

Jean nodded and continued,

'I'll assign someone to assist you later. If you need anything, just let them know.'

'Also, as Amber promised, we Knights of Favonius will help you as much as we can once this chaos is over.'

'Thank you, Acting Grand Master Jean.'

'You can just call me Jean.'

Aether nodded at Jean's words.

'Um… Acting Grand Master, what if someone asks about… um, the Traveler?'

Jean glanced at Aether, and he immediately understood her intention.

'You can tell the truth—that I received the blessing of the Anemo Archon. But let's keep the matter about Dvalin a secret for now.'

'Understood.'

'Also, be careful when entering the temples. We don't know if the Abyss Order has set any traps there.'

'Yes!'

With their tasks assigned, everyone left Jean's office and prepared to depart. Aether also stepped outside, intending to speak with Amber.

'Amber,' he called.

Amber and Eula, who had just exited the Knights of Favonius headquarters, stopped and turned around.

'Hmm? What is it, Traveler?'

'Well… I didn't mean to lie to you when we first met.'

'I understand, Traveler. The Anemo Archon must have asked you to keep it a secret, right?'

Even though Venti never actually asked him to do that, Aether figured it was best to just blame it on him.

'Yeah.'

'Then there's no problem.'

'Traveler, thank you for everything you've done,' Eula said after Aether and Amber finished talking.

'Eula, right?'

'It's no big deal. After all, it's also my duty.'

'If you have the time, I'd like to invite you for a drink.'

'Alright.'

'Good. If you break that promise, I'll have my revenge,' Eula said before turning around and walking away.

'Don't take Eula the wrong way, Traveler. That's just how she talks. Well then, see you later, Traveler!' Amber said before hurrying after Eula.
