Chapter 87: Ch. 87: Excalibur
Inside the inn, they climbed the stairs to the second floor, their destination being Charles' room.
Their slow steps led them into a silence that would fit perfectly into a horror scene.
But does everyone think the same way? Not really.
At this moment, Charles, who was leading them stood at the door of his room. He was squinting.
"What's wrong?" asked Furina, worried that something had happened to Charles who suddenly fell silent.
Arthur, who was standing next to her also squinted. He immediately walked ahead of Charles and was about to open the door.
However, his hand immediately stopped on the door knob.
A wrist pressed against his shoulder—Charles's. Stopping his further actions.
"I sense someone's presence behind this door. Are you sure this is your room?" Charles asked. He knew this wasn't the time for jokes, but he couldn't stand it if the atmosphere continued to be gloomy like this.
The presence of someone. Even Charles himself did not know why he was able to feel that in the back of his room. Were all his senses heightened during his stay in the abyss? Even if it's only for a few hours?
Is that possible?
No, for him it was not possible.
"Idiot, this is your room too," Arthur retorted.
"Shall we make a U-turn?" Charles suggested.
This advice was of course just lip service, from the bottom of his heart he did not recommend returning to the gates of hell. What if when he returned, the inn's doors opened wide?
That would only hasten their deaths!
They had no choice but to move forward.
"No, this is our room. Only the owner should occupy it. Let's evict him."
Charles smiled, taking out a sword from his inventory. "You mean we kill it, right?"
Ignoring his correction, Arthur immediately brought out the brightly glowing sword, which he had just a few minutes ago, from his inventory to the surface.
Excalibur!
The light released by the sword shone throughout the room like a small sun forced into the room. It was not long before the light dimmed.
"Huh? What is that sword? Why do I feel so familiar with its appearance ...." Charles was surprised by the sudden appearance of the sword.
Arthur smiled—a smile that was not a happy smile, quite the opposite.
"As you said before... this is the cause."
Charles squinted, hearing that statement, he immediately understood completely.
"So you're the culprit... unexpected."
Charles could be said to be somewhat surprised, but on the other hand it could also be said the opposite—he had thought Arthur was the culprit. "Really, I never thought that my question would be answered so quickly.
"Then you must take responsibility for your actions. Redemption, that's what you need to do."
Arthur chuckled.
"Of course, that was my intention."
The sword that Charles had just taken out was immediately put back into the mysterious room, inventory.
He has no intention of helping.
What should he do that for?
This was his redemption!
The doorknob was turned and Arthur entered the room with Excalibur in his right hand.
His steps were slow, it even felt like he was floating even though his feet were against the surface.
At this moment, Arthur suddenly stopped, his eyes narrowed and trembled for a moment, but soon after, he closed them in an instant—back to calm.
The old man he had first met downstairs at this inn stood up. There were skewers clamped on both fingers of his right hand—the index and thumb.
Innkeeper!
The innkeeper was waiting behind the door of their room!
"As expected... I've become immune to this again."
The second Charles said that, Arthur instantly propelled himself forward with incredible speed.
He grabbed the hilt of excalibur and slashed at the innkeeper's head, but was dodged in an instant with incredible reflexes.
How could he move like that?
It was a mystery.
The zombie with incredible reflexes immediately pounced on Arthur who had not had time to adjust his position.
Excalibur blocked the attack as a shield, pushing him away.
The innkeeper, who had fallen unharmed, got up again. This time he moved his finger holding the skewer.
He aimed right for the throat!
Arthur who realized this immediately maintained a careful stance, not knowing what move the innkeeper would make next.
Although he looked like a typical zombie—mindless, but in reality it was not so. It was as if he had intelligence!
With a swift movement, Arthur directly attacked the head of the innkeeper who was approaching at super speed.
The light shone brightly, blinding everyone in the place!
Then the light dimmed. Charles who had been watching their confrontation was shocked.
The sword, which seemed invincible was stopped.
Something stopped the sword!
It was a skewer!
Excalibur was instantly pushed backwards, leaving Arthur open at the chest.
The murderous zombie acted quickly when the opportunity arose, as if he was a man obsessed with the woman of his dreams.
However, in such a position, Arthur kicked the innkeeper in the head with his left foot.
The zombie bounced away, destroying the mattress and all the furniture in the room.
The flying dust blocked the view.
At this moment, Charles felt something from behind the dust—this feeling was exactly the same as when he was still standing behind the door of the room.
A sense of danger!
The innkeeper was approaching at super speed towards Furina!
Charles immediately blocked the moment the zombie lunged towards Furina. A beautiful slash appeared in an instant, hitting the innkeeper's right hand that was holding a skewer.
He had been waiting for this moment!
Ever since Arthur and the innkeeper had fought, he had been moving his fingers like he was playing a piano so that he could quickly take the sword out of his inventory, just in case something happened.
He had already made up his mind—zombies would attack anyone as long as they were a living being, whether strong or weak.
With such thoughts running through his head, he was already preparing for the possibility that Furina, himself, or perhaps someone else who wasn't here would be the target!
The hand holding the skewer fell right beside Charles' feet.
Charles smiled, thrusting his sword into that hand, embedding it into the wooden surface.
At the same time, Arthur, who had deliberately not attacked since the innkeeper changed his target, was waiting for this moment.
Both of his hands holding the hilt of the sword, which was pointed at the sky, were trembling.
The sword glowed brighter with every second, with every breath that came out of his mouth.
"Thank you ...."
The tip of Excalibur became a pillar of light that supported the sky, like the sun—illuminating the entire abyss, making the temperature extremely hot.
Arthur opened his lips as if to say a word.
However, Charles, Furina, who was closest to him would not be able to catch the sound.
Arthur lowered the pillar towards the figure in his reflection.
The light engulfed the innkeeper's body, as if he was forced to become one with it.
