Chapter 209: Chapter 208: Watatsumi Island
Watching Kokomi's figure disappear from view, after a moment, Yu Xie suddenly had an idea.
He glanced toward the direction of Narukami Island, then toward the direction of Watatsumi Island.
"Shen He, would you like to visit Watatsumi Island?"
"Watatsumi Island?"
"Compared to the other islands in Inazuma, Watatsumi Island's scenery is quite unique."
"If you go, I'll go."
"Then... let's go. We'll also visit the highest leader of Watatsumi Island. If we go now, we should be able to return to Narukami Island before dark."
If it were before, Yu Xie, as the Commander of the Okuzumeshuu, wouldn't have been suitable to visit Watatsumi Island at this time in a personal capacity. But now, he was just an ordinary person, a traveler in Inazuma.
The most important thing was that there were some matters he wanted to discuss with the current Divine Priestess of the island.
Time passed slowly.
Yu Xie and Shen He arrived at Watatsumi Island.
As they walked along the road, the surrounding scenery was indeed more special than other places.
The entire terrain of Watatsumi Island was elevated, like a wall, blocking the surrounding seawater.
In the center stood a very special building — Sangonomiya Shrine.
Around the Sangonomiya Shrine, the air seemed to have small floating things similar to jellyfish. These could also be seen on the path where Yu Xie and Shen He were walking, though less frequently.
What was strange was that, from a distance, these floating objects could be seen, but as one approached, they completely disappeared, like a mirage.
In summary, the terrain here was unique, the scenery magical, almost dreamlike.
They continued along the road, passing by a village named Bourou Village, and soon the Sangonomiya Shrine appeared before them.
During wartime, Watatsumi Island should have been in a state of high alert. Since Yu Xie and Shen He were outsiders, it would be reasonable for them to be stopped and questioned.
However, although they passed by several soldiers of Watatsumi Island, none of them stopped them.
They reached the front of the Sangonomiya Shrine.
Many priestess were busy, and soldiers could be seen patrolling.
As they walked in, a priestess approached Yu Xie and Shen He.
"Please follow me. Lord Kokomi is already waiting for you."
Hearing this, Shen He's heart was slightly surprised.
The title "Lord of the Sangonomiya Shrine" reminded her of Miss Kokomi, whom she had met today on Yashiori Island. Could it be...?
Yu Xie, on the other hand, seemed very calm, as if he had already anticipated the scene.
It wasn't that Yu Xie was clairvoyant, but he knew that Kokomi, as Watatsumi Island's most outstanding strategist and leader, could not have been unaware of the current situation.
Perhaps Kokomi's trip to Yashiori Island today was not just to visit the grave.
Following the priestess, Yu Xie and Shen He arrived at a door.
The priestess knocked, "Lord Kokomi, the two guests have arrived."
"Please come in," Kokomi's voice came from within.
The priestess turned, giving a slight bow to Yu Xie and Shen He before leaving.
Yu Xie looked at the door and pushed it open.
The room's decor was not extravagant; everything was relatively simple.
Most of the view was occupied by books on the shelves, many of which were military strategy books.
As the strategist and leader of Watatsumi Island, Kokomi had read military books since childhood and was well-versed in the art of war.
"Welcome," Kokomi said, putting down the book in her hand. She stood up from behind the desk and walked toward them with a gentle smile.
Seeing Kokomi, Shen He's earlier guess was confirmed. She looked at Kokomi and said, "So, Miss Kokomi is the highest leader of Watatsumi Island."
"Apologies, Miss Shen He. Please forgive me for not revealing my identity earlier," Kokomi said with a slightly apologetic smile. "At that time, I wasn't sure if you would come to Watatsumi Island."
"From what you're saying, it seems like you have something to tell us once we came to Watatsumi Island?" Yu Xie asked.
Kokomi paused for a moment. "It's nothing particularly special, just... some things I've had no one to talk to about. If you don't mind, shall we sit and chat?"
The three of them sat at a nearby tea table, where a pot of tea was already brewed, and snacks had been prepared.
Kokomi poured tea for Yu Xie and Shen He, then poured herself a cup as well.
"I thought that, due to your position, Commander Yu Xie wouldn't come to Watatsumi Island. I was worried for nothing," Kokomi said.
"Just call me Yu Xie. 'Commander'... that's a thing from centuries ago," Yu Xie said lightly.
He was no longer the Commander of the Okuzumeshuu, nor the General of the Gui Li Assembly.
Now, he was just an ordinary traveler.
"You two need not call me Miss Kokomi either. Just call me Kokomi," she smiled.
"Then... Kokomi, what is it you want to say?" Yu Xie asked.
Kokomi hesitated slightly, took a deep breath, and said, "Once, under the protection of Lord Orobashi, Watatsumi Island flourished, but the eventual outcome was that Lord Orobashi died, and this led to war with the Shogunate."
"I've always wondered why Lord Orobashi decided to march east at the advice of his people. He was a god who disliked war," Kokomi continued. "Only today do I seem to understand a little... Perhaps, there were too many reasons we mere mortals can't comprehend. Lord Orobashi had no choice. It's like how the Raiden Shogun had no choice but to swing that blade of the Musou Shinsetsu."
"Lord Orobashi used his death to give the people of Watatsumi Island the opportunity to integrate into Inazuma. Although this war was within his expectations, it was probably not his intention."
As she said these words, Kokomi's gaze was fixed on the teacup in her hand, and the reflection of her complex expression in the tea seemed like an obscure military treatise.
The atmosphere became slightly silent.
The room grew quiet.
"I've kept these thoughts bottled up, unable to speak to anyone. It feels better to get them out now," Kokomi said with a smile, a relieved expression crossing her face. She continued, "Not long ago, General Kujou Sara of the Tenryou Commission led a delegation for peace talks. Though the outcome wasn't ideal, I believe this war is nearing its end."
"But what concerns me is that during this war, the Fatui have constantly tried to intervene, stirring up even more chaos. Yet, it seems there's someone within the Fatui secretly sabotaging their plans. If it weren't for that person, the situation might have already gotten out of control. I wonder what that person's intentions are."
Yu Xie could easily guess that the person Kokomi referred to was probably Rosalyne.
"That person probably doesn't have any grand intentions. She was just trying to find herself," he replied.
