Genshin Impact: I'm just a mortal

Chapter 210: Chapter 209: Midnight Snack Stall

Night fell, and Yu Xie and Shen He returned to Narukami Island.

Time passed, and it gradually reached midnight.

The streets were almost deserted, with only occasional flickers of light in the distance.

Yu Xie found himself unable to sleep.

Since arriving in Inazuma, it seemed he hadn't had a good night's rest. Every night, his mind was flooded with countless thoughts he couldn't control.

The events surrounding Orobashi had deviated somewhat from the original course of history, but there were still similarities.

A god who loved humanity so deeply, yet had their fate sealed simply because they knew something they shouldn't have—how lamentable.

Pondering these thoughts, Yu Xie stepped out alone onto the empty streets, hoping to clear his mind.

The streets at night were quiet, their solitude enhanced by the moonlight.

Yu Xie wandered aimlessly, his thoughts adrift.

Suddenly, a familiar female voice reached his ears.

"Can't sleep this late at night?"

Yu Xie turned towards the voice and saw a familiar silver-haired kitsune he had met back in Liyue.

Kitsune Saiguu stood not far away, walking toward him slowly.

The night breeze gently swayed her silver hair and clothing, her fox ears twitching slightly as she walked gracefully, exuding a mature charm with every step.

"Couldn't sleep, so I thought I'd go for a walk," Yu Xie replied.

"Coincidentally, I couldn't sleep either. Care to walk together?" Kitsune Saiguu stopped in front of him, a faint smile on her face.

"Sure," Yu Xie agreed readily.

And so, the two strolled through the moonlit streets of Inazuma City.

The night breeze and moonlight intertwined, creating a silent symphony in the background.

"These streets are quite different from when you were here before," Kitsune Saiguu remarked, glancing around and reminiscing about the past.

Back then, on many nights, she and Yu Xie had walked together under the moonlight, chatting about everyday trivialities. Time always slipped away unknowingly, with some nights stretching until dawn.

Hearing stories about his past from someone who had known him always gave Yu Xie a strange feeling.

It was like listening to a familiar yet foreign tale, or reliving memories buried deep within his soul.

Yet, no matter how hard he tried, those memories remained beyond his reach, even though they were undeniably important to him.

"Some things haven't changed though, like that night snack stall that's been around for centuries, passed down through generations," Kitsune Saiguu said with a smile. "By the way, how about grabbing a bite? It's probably still open, my treat."

"Then I'll gladly accept," Yu Xie said.

Following Kitsune Saiguu's lead, the two arrived at a small food stall.

The stall was deserted at this hour. The owner, a middle-aged man, was cleaning up after previous customers.

Seeing Kitsune Saiguu, the owner immediately stopped what he was doing to greet her.

"Lady Saiguu, you're here a bit late tonight. I don't have much left in terms of ingredients."

"No problem, just whip up whatever's left. We're not picky," Kitsune Saiguu said with a smile, leading Yu Xie to a table by the stall.

"Alright, please wait a moment."

Soon, the aroma of oden and other Inazuman snacks wafted through the air, tantalizing their taste buds.

"This stall was already here back when you were the General of the Okuzumeshuu," Kitsune Saiguu reminisced, propping her face on her hand. "We used to come here for late-night snacks occasionally. The owner back then respected you so much that he often refused to take your money, but you always left the payment behind without saying a word."

Memories of the past flitted through Kitsune Saiguu's mind. A faint smile lingered on her face as she gazed at Yu Xie, her eyes filled with emotion.

"Honestly, when I first met you, I thought of you as just a little kid. I never expected things to turn out this way…" Kitsune Saiguu chuckled, almost self-mockingly. "I'm really glad we've reunited."

Her words weighed heavily on Yu Xie's heart. He wasn't sure if he could properly respond to Kitsune Saiguu's feelings or her patience.

In the end, Yu Xie simply smiled faintly.

"I'm happy to have the chance to meet you again too."

The food was ready, and the owner brought it to their table. The delicious aroma was irresistible.

"Let's dig in. This stall is really popular. If we'd come earlier, it would've been packed with customers."

"Then I won't hold back," Yu Xie said.

As they ate, the moonlight grew brighter.

It was very late.

A young girl passing by noticed Kitsune Saiguu and Yu Xie eating at the stall. Thinking she might have seen wrong, she rubbed her eyes and looked again.

She hadn't seen wrong—it was indeed Kitsune Saiguu and Yu Xie.

The girl instantly felt a little annoyed.

Oh, Kitsune Saiguu! Sneaking out for a late-night snack with Yu Xie while I've been busy with army matters and haven't even had the chance to meet him!

Pouting, the girl walked over to the stall and sat down at their table.

"Boss, I'll have my usual," she said.

The owner hesitated. "Lady Chiyo, you're a bit late tonight. I'm out of most of the ingredients for your usual set. How about…"

"Just make whatever you can," she said.

"Alright, please wait a moment," the owner replied and got back to work.

Yu Xie glanced at the girl who had suddenly sat beside him, momentarily taken aback.

Her face was as beautiful as a blossoming flower, and her crimson eyes were as clear and pure as an untainted lake.

Kitsune Saiguu noticed this, set down her oden, and smiled silently.

The girl, sensing Yu Xie's gaze, tried to suppress her excitement but couldn't help the blush creeping onto her cheeks. She spoke softly, her voice trembling slightly:

"Um… Yu Xie, l-long time no see…"

"Chi… Chiyo?" Yu Xie blurted out instinctively.

Chiyo's heart leaped with joy, but Kitsune Saiguu felt a pang of unease.

When Yu Xie first met Kitsune Saiguu in Liyue, he hadn't called her name so naturally upon seeing her.

Jealousy quietly bubbled up within her.

Yu Xie quickly noticed Kitsune Saiguu's questioning gaze.

He froze for a moment, reflecting on his earlier reaction. Without much thought, he had called Chiyo's name instinctively. The only explanation he could think of was that, upon seeing Kitsune Saiguu alive and well, he had assumed Chiyo would also be fine. Seeing her now had simply prompted the reaction.

"Um… How about I treat this meal?" Yu Xie said with an awkward smile.

"No need, I'll treat!" Kitsune Saiguu and Chiyo said in unison.
