Genshin Impact: One Soul in Two Bodies

Chapter 2: Am I That Good?

In the dimly lit room, a man and a woman stared at each other, their faces etched with shock, as if they had just witnessed something truly unbelievable.

But their stunned expressions didn't last, as they quickly grasped what had truly happened.

Whether it was Kaito or Wendy, they were, in fact, the same person, somehow split into two individuals.

One remained the original Kaito, while the other had assumed Wendy's appearance.

"So, this damn system's character card isn't for transformation after all?"

After slowly regaining his composure from the shock, Kaito, who was sitting on the bed, couldn't help but mutter a curse.

He had originally assumed that using a character card would simply transform him into the character's appearance. Instead, it had literally split him into two separate entities.

Fortunately, even though they had split, they were still fundamentally the same person; there was just an additional body now.

Seeing herself appear before herself was quite peculiar…

Staring at herself sitting on the bed, Wendy couldn't help but think the same.

As she gazed at her own form on the bed, it felt as though she were observing herself from an out-of-body perspective.

However, looking at Wendy from Kaito's perspective was fine, as it truly felt like he was observing another person, even though both of them were, in essence, himself.

"That damn system must have been blasted to smithereens. It looks like I'll just be split into two from now on. But… this arrangement doesn't seem so bad after all."

Sitting down beside Kaito, Wendy pondered what to do next.

"After all, with Wendy's strength in the Genshin world, I can pretty much be completely unhindered. Though, it would be great if both bodies had the same power."

With his gaze fixed on Wendy, Kaito felt that the current situation wasn't entirely unacceptable. After all, he now essentially had the power of the Herrscher of Wind.

There was just one point that bothered him: their powers couldn't be shared.

Even though they were both him, one was incredibly powerful while the other was just an ordinary person. He didn't feel this arrangement was secure enough.

"Wait… the Honkai energy in my other self won't affect me, will it?"

The thought suddenly struck him, and Kaito instinctively recoiled further into the bed. Meanwhile, Wendy immediately stood up and moved towards the doorway.

"Seems like it's fine…"

Checking his palms and then his arms, Kaito found no abnormalities on himself, which allowed him to breathe a small sigh of relief.

"Right… I can suppress the Honkai energy within my body to a very low level… and I just walked through the crowded city gate without affecting anyone…"

Because their memories were shared, Kaito knew exactly what Wendy had experienced, even though he had been lying there the entire time.

With that thought, Wendy walked back and resettled herself on the bed.

"This little braid… it feels like I could cosplay the Anemo Archon with it…"

Sitting side by side with Wendy on the bed, Kaito found himself idly twirling Wendy's braid, and couldn't help but think the same.

"And her chest… it's so much smaller than my other form…"

His gaze drifted downwards. Kaito felt this particular shape was perfectly acceptable.

But if it were the Feathered Form, one hand probably wouldn't be enough for him.

Despite these thoughts, Kaito's hand was still idly twirling Wendy's braid, and the two of them continued to gaze at each other.

As he continued to gaze, Kaito couldn't help but recall the names of people from a neighboring country in his previous world, separated by only a narrow strip of water.

"Would he really have to say… 'I'm so great' when the time came?"

Still gazing at Wendy, Kaito fell into a deep contemplation.

If anyone had been watching the two of them at that moment, they would have undoubtedly mistaken them for a couple flaunting their affection.

[Sy▢tem Re-activa▢tion]

At that moment, a heavily garbled and almost unintelligible voice echoed in Kaito's mind, causing them both to freeze simultaneously.

"Who's there?"

Kaito instinctively asked, releasing Wendy's braid and rising from the bed. Wendy, meanwhile, swiftly moved to outside the room to assess the situation.

[System Re-activation Succe▢ful]

[You're not dead yet?!]

At this, Kaito understood the situation: his system was back.

But for some reason, the system's voice was still somewhat unclear, and its text prompts were similarly garbled.

[Yes, Host, this system has successfully re-activated.]

"But I have some questions for you. Why didn't you mention that using a character card would result in me splitting? And if I draw more character cards later, will I continue to split like this?"

Seeing that the system had indeed returned, Kaito, who had resettled himself on the bed with Wendy, immediately peppered it with questions.

He hadn't asked clearly last time, but this time, he absolutely had to get clear answers. Otherwise, if more strange problems arose, it wouldn't be good.

[No, Host. The situation you are currently experiencing is merely an error caused by an unknown bug encountered by this system. Under normal circumstances, you would directly transform into the character on the card and be able to choose to transform or revert at any time, anywhere, and this will remain true in the future. However, this system is unable to reverse the error that previously occurred. We request that the Host accept reality.]

Kaito: "..."

After hearing the system's words, Kaito secretly wanted to curse aloud. Yet, the thought that he actually did accept the current situation prevented the words from leaving his lips.

Tap-tap-tap—

At that moment, footsteps suddenly echoed from downstairs; someone was coming up.

"The Knights of Favonius are here?"

Kaito, who knew why he was there and where he was, thought the same as he stared at the doorway.

Meanwhile, Wendy vanished from the room at a speed barely discernible to the naked eye, heading straight for the rooftop. Only a faint draft was left behind.

After all, Wendy had entered through the rooftop, so it was best for her not to be seen at this moment.

"I wonder if they'll connect the crater from that system explosion to me…"

Lying back down on the bed, Kaito pondered the Knights of Favonius' potential suspicions regarding him.

There was no helping it; that immense boom had likely been heard throughout all of Mondstadt. Someone was bound to find it suspicious, and him appearing at the very source of the sound would only heighten those suspicions.

But Kaito wasn't panicking in the slightest. He now had power equivalent to that of the Herrscher of Wind, leaving him with absolutely nothing to worry about.

"It looks very calm outside… so there shouldn't be anything amiss…"

At that moment, Wendy, from her vantage point on the rooftop, didn't observe anything unusual outside. Kaito then surmised that there were no major issues, probably just someone coming to check if he had woken up.
