Chapter 3: Wendy's Casual Strike
Hmm... the windows are all closed... so why is there still wind blowing in?
Arriving on the second floor, Amber looked at the tightly shut window at the end of the corridor, feeling a bit puzzled.
She wasn't sure why, but she had just heard the sound of wind.
Never mind... I should go check on that foreigner first...
Averting her gaze, Amber decided not to overthink it and walked straight towards a room with a half-open door.
Tap-tap-tap—
Someone's coming... but who could it be?
Listening to the approaching footsteps from outside, Kaito was very curious about who it could be.
Creak—
Just then, the door was pushed open.
Amber...
Seeing the striking red bunny ear bow on the other person's head, that name immediately popped into Kaito's mind.
"Oh, you're awake. How are you feeling? Do you have any problems with your body?"
Entering and seeing Kaito sitting on the bed, Amber, who had just turned on the light, was surprised and quickly asked about his physical condition.
"Hmm... I don't think so."
After a brief hesitation, Kaito shook his head.
In truth, he was quite surprised, as only now did he notice that he seemed perfectly fine.
Even though the system's explosion had blown a crater, he was somehow completely unharmed.
Never mind... I'll ask the system later...
"That's good." Hearing Kaito say he was fine, Amber visibly relaxed. Then she continued, "By the way, why were you there? And do you know what that crater was about? I only saw you lying there, so I didn't know what happened."
"Ah... I apologize, I forgot to introduce myself. You can call me Amber, Reconnaissance Knight of the Knights of Favonius."
As if realizing she'd forgotten something important, Amber, standing by the bed, quickly introduced herself and performed a perfectly standard knight's salute to Kaito.
"You can just call me Kaito." Kaito nodded, then remembering questions he still hadn't answered, he continued, "I don't know what crater you're talking about. I only remember that I was supposed to go to Mondstadt, then I suddenly lost consciousness, and then I ended up... here."
After speaking, Kaito looked around the room.
"So that's how it is. It seems you don't know what happened either." Amber nodded, looking thoughtful, and continued, "The place you're in now is Mondstadt..."
Grrr—
Just then, Kaito's stomach gave an awkward rumble.
"Uh... well..."
"Oh, Kaito, you must be hungry after lying down for so long. I'll go get you something to eat right now."
Without waiting for Kaito to finish speaking, Amber slapped her forehead and quickly dashed out.
Kaito: "..."
"What an enthusiastic girl."
Looking at the empty room, Kaito couldn't help but sigh with emotion.
However, there was still a problem he needed to solve; he couldn't afford to be idle.
Because Wendy was currently on the rooftop, Kaito knew it was already dark. He needed to find a place to settle Wendy.
But before that, he could let Wendy go wander outside; she might as well, since she was idle anyway.
With that thought, Wendy on the rooftop swiftly jumped down to the ground and began to wander casually.
"It really is quite different from what I saw in the game..."
As she wandered from the Knights of Favonius Headquarters to the Archon Statue Plaza in front of the Cathedral, Wendy couldn't help but feel this way.
"If you've got coin, drop it. If you've got none, just be a crowd. Thank you all!"
Just then, a voice coming from the massive Anemo Archon Statue caught Wendy's attention.
Venti?
The moment she heard the voice, Wendy thought of that name.
Looking up, a crowd had gathered below the Anemo Archon Statue, but they were now dispersing. Wendy also saw that familiar green figure tidying something on the ground.
"Your Anemo Archon, why don't you let me be it instead..."
Thinking about how Venti always concealed his identity, and how similar their abilities were, Wendy couldn't help but inwardly grumble.
Of course, she was only complaining, not actually intending to do so.
"I should go explore somewhere else..."
Feeling there wasn't much more to see here, and wanting to familiarize herself with Mondstadt in the Genshin Impact world, Wendy walked along the path she came from, heading towards the city gates.
Just after Wendy turned to leave, Venti at the foot of the statue looked up in her direction, as if he had sensed something.
"Hmm? What was that..."
"A trick of the mind?"
For some reason, Venti had suddenly felt an inexplicable gaze just now, which made him lift his head in confusion, but he found nothing.
However, it wasn't entirely true that he found nothing, as a girl not far away, with hair somewhat similar to his, caught his attention.
Aside from her hair being somewhat similar to his, the girl was also barefoot, and her clothes were clearly not from Mondstadt, making her look quite different from everyone else.
"Why isn't she wearing shoes..."
"Is that a custom from somewhere?"
Venti subconsciously thought.
"Never mind... Today's haul was pretty good... Time for a drink..."
Without thinking further, Venti's gaze returned to the pile of Mora on the ground, and he couldn't help but smile. He could go have a drink at Angel's Share again.
————————
Angel's Share.
"Although it was much larger than Mondstadt in the game... the basic layout was still the same..."
Having walked all the way from the Archon Statue Plaza to Angel's Share, Wendy came to this conclusion.
Even though it was her first time exploring Mondstadt in first-person without the aid of a map, and despite the Genshin Impact world's Mondstadt being much larger than its game counterpart, she still didn't get lost. She could go wherever she wanted.
"I feel like Diluc should be inside..."
Standing in front of Angel's Share, Wendy couldn't help but make this guess.
She actually wanted to go inside and look, but the thought that she didn't have a single Mora on her stopped her.
After that, Wendy continued walking forward, reaching Mondstadt's side gate and exiting.
Compared to other places, this area was much more unfamiliar to Wendy, as she didn't visit it much in the game.
And perhaps because it was already night, there wasn't a single soul at Mondstadt's side gate.
"Eheheehee—"
Just then, several laughs, very familiar to Wendy, suddenly sounded from behind her.
"Abyss Mages?"
Turning around, Wendy found several Abyss Mages of different elements had appeared by the side gate, seemingly intending to block her way back.
"Ah... a lone human."
"Let her be our challenge to the Darknight Hero!"
"Let the people of Mondstadt know that the Darknight Hero cannot protect them!"
...
Silently watching the Abyss Mages chatter amongst themselves, Wendy pretty much understood what they were trying to do.
They simply wanted to kidnap or kill her, to intimidate the people of Mondstadt and the Darknight Hero.
"Hey, you could at least ask for my opinion, couldn't you?"
Taking a step forward, Wendy looked utterly speechless.
"Weak humans are—"
Boom—
Before that Abyss Mage could finish speaking, it, along with the other Abyss Mages, was blown away, person and shield alike, by an abnormally powerful gust of wind, smashing violently into Mondstadt's city wall.
"Oh no... I think I used too much force..."
Seeing that she had made Mondstadt's side gate much wider, and created a massive, several-meter-deep trench that stretched all the way to it, Wendy was completely stunned.
She had only casually attacked, so how did she cause such a huge commotion?
Tap-tap-tap—
Just then, a flurry of footsteps came from within Mondstadt.
