Chapter 6: Chapter 6: The Bridge Incident
"Hmm? Dear customer, your luck is quite good! This Pokémon is called Fennekin—it's the Fire-type Starter from the Kalos region."
Li Pan's expression was a bit strange.
What was going on today? Out of the three customers who had come, two had already drawn Starter Pokémon.
And now, this third one had also drawn a Starter?
What are the odds?!
"Kalos region, huh…"
Baixiao's eyes flickered with curiosity, but she refrained from asking further.
Li Pan headed into the back, and before long, he returned with a small orange-furred fox. The tips of its large ears were adorned with red tufts of fur.
"So… so cute…"
The moment she laid eyes on Fennekin, Baixiao's face lit up. Its appearance perfectly matched her tastes.
"Mii~"
Fennekin, however, seemed a bit timid and hid behind Li Pan, reluctant to come out.
"Come on, Fennekin, step forward and take a look. This might be your future lifelong partner."
Li Pan gently nudged Fennekin forward, gesturing toward Baixiao.
"Mii~"
Hearing this, Fennekin widened its large eyes and carefully examined Baixiao.
The pure, intelligent gaze of the small fox left Baixiao flustered. She hesitated for a moment before crouching down, lowering her gaze to meet Fennekin's.
"Fennekin, I… I'm Baixiao. I'm from Liyue Harbor, my family has five members, and I work at Yuehai Pavilion… If you come with me… I promise I'll treat you well!"
Baixiao was usually quite the talker, capable of prying out even the most well-guarded secrets in just a few words.
But now, under Fennekin's clear and innocent gaze, she found herself at a complete loss for words. Her mind went blank, and her tongue tripped over itself.
As soon as she finished speaking, she realized what she had just blurted out, and her face turned a bright shade of red.
She wanted to run away in embarrassment.
"It's over… Fennekin definitely thinks I'm some kind of weirdo now!"
Baixiao mentally screamed in despair. Her rationality was crumbling.
"Pfft…"
Fennekin blinked in confusion at first, but then let out a soft giggle.
It reached out its tiny paw and gently patted Baixiao's head, as if reassuring her.
Baixiao looked up in astonishment, staring at the little fox in disbelief.
"Fennekin, do you… want to be my partner?"
"Mii~"
Fennekin nodded with a smile.
Its soft, gentle voice melted into Baixiao's heart like a refreshing breeze on a hot summer's day.
"Great! Fennekin, from now on, I'll be your trainer!"
---
On the side, Baishi, the only one who had yet to draw a Pokémon, was getting restless.
"Boss, my turn! You said Starters come in Water, Fire, and Grass, right? Then today, I have to draw a Water-type Starter!"
"No problem, customer. Go ahead."
Li Pan handed her the Pokédex but wasn't particularly concerned.
Starter Pokémon were rare—drawing one was already considered lucky.
Drawing two in one day? That was absurdly fortunate.
But three?
And all three different types?
That kind of luck was probably as rare as pulling a Legendary Pokémon in one try.
But five minutes later, Li Pan stared at Baishi's newly drawn Squirtle, his mind in complete disbelief.
What in the world was happening today?!
He could hardly believe it—three people had come, and all three had drawn a different Starter Pokémon.
This kind of luck was astronomical.
"Alright, boss, we're heading out."
After sealing their Pokémon inside Poké Balls, the three sisters bade farewell to Li Pan and left Pokémon Home.
---
Meanwhile, at Chihu Rock
After thoroughly reviewing all the paperwork related to Pokémon Home and finding no issues, Keqing finally set aside her concerns and hurried toward the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
She was always busy—always preparing for things years in advance.
The rare moments she allowed herself to relax were when she disguised herself among the common folk—whether it was mining in the Chasm, hauling cargo at the docks, or selling beef offal at Chihu Rock.
"Meow↗ ah~"
Perched on Keqing's shoulder, Shinx watched its hurried trainer with a confused expression.
Why was she in such a rush?
Realizing that she had been neglecting her companion, Keqing offered an apologetic smile.
"Ah, sorry, Shinx—I forgot to explain. A few days ago, a bridge in Liyue Harbor suddenly collapsed. It was only just repaired, so I'm heading over to inspect the quality of the reconstruction."
As she spoke, they arrived at their destination.
A crowd had gathered near the bridge, pointing and commenting on the newly built structure.
Keqing didn't pay much attention—this kind of thing was normal in Liyue.
After all, not everyone was a workaholic like her.
Some people just enjoyed watching and gossiping, and there was no stopping them.
"Lady Keqing!"
A group of Ministry officials had already arrived and quickly noticed her presence.
Of course, their attention was drawn more to the small feline perched on her shoulder.
The tiny blue-and-black kitten was far too eye-catching.
Keqing pointed at the newly built bridge and asked, "Xiao Wang, has the bridge passed its safety inspection?"
This bridge connected Liyue Harbor to Mt. Tianheng, serving as a crucial economic hub.
When the bridge collapsed, it had disrupted the flow of goods, causing massive financial losses.
Xiao Wang lowered her voice. "It's been inspected three times. No issues were found."
Keqing nodded in satisfaction and stepped forward to inspect the bridge herself.
But the moment she set foot on it—
Cracks spread across the entire structure.
BOOM!
With a thunderous crash, the bridge collapsed again, kicking up a cloud of dust and debris.
"Lady Keqing!!"
Xiao Wang's legs went weak as she let out a scream.
She had no idea why the bridge had suddenly collapsed again—it had just passed multiple inspections!
And now, Keqing had been on it!
If something had happened to her, her career—no, her life—was over.
"Cough, cough… I'm fine."
A few coughs rang out from the smoke, followed by Keqing's voice.
The instant Xiao Wang heard it, she exhaled in relief.
For a moment, she had broken into a cold sweat.
