Chapter 69: 69: Technology
Legends spoke of a distant realm with joyful green-skinned beings whose tech tree was bizarre, chaotic, yet simple. They couldn't replicate their own creations due to massive technological black boxes. When asked how they built their tech, their "Big Techboss" would shrug, "I reckon it's like this or that." Thus, their tech was dubbed I Reckon Tech.
This mindset later applied to idealistic technologies. In Teyvat, one master of such I Reckon Tech stood out—Raiden Ei.
Her Thunderous Yougou Divine Machine shared principles with Reisen Riou's One System, Ten Thousand Divine Machines, but it harbored vast black boxes in materials, design, and spatial tech. Did Ei understand these fields? No. Most of her knowledge came from Reisen Riou's transmissions. Her high divine essence and passion for tinkering birthed black-box tech, not structured disciplines.
If Reisen Riou's systematic knowledge was an ellipse amid boundless fog—balanced, no glaring strengths or weaknesses, like a pebble—Ei was a radiant star, dazzling in peaks but stark in shortcomings.
After absorbing Reisen Riou's disciplinary framework, Ei began categorizing her knowledge into fields when idle. This alone yielded immense gains, shoring up her weaknesses. With her demon god insight, she refined truths, pushing theories further.
Take electromagnetism, one of the universe's four fundamental forces. In Teyvat, it clashed with local rules—lightning wasn't electric charge but pure Electro. Yet, Ei and Makoto were like Teyvat's positive and negative charges, anchoring their Seven Archon status. Individually, they surpassed most demon gods, especially Ei, whose martial prowess neared the divine peak. Together, their attacks outclassed ordinary demon gods, rivaling top Archons.
That was before Makoto became Narukami. Now, with her Archon's Gnosis, she was a full-fledged Seven Archon, her governance unmatched save by Liyue's Geo Archon. A Gnosis drew power from ruling and fulfilling the god-human contract.
"What're you thinking?" Makoto's voice broke Ei's focus.
Electro sparks flared, forming a small lightning ring—lethal to elemental bosses like Reisen Riou but harmless to Electro demon gods like them.
"Sister, don't interrupt," Ei said, sensing her Electro authority brushing deeper laws. Electromagnetism, an alien force, felt just out of reach.
"Hmph!" Makoto tugged Ei's braid, mussing her hair.
"Sister!" Ei protested.
"You're off lately," Makoto said seriously. "Daydreaming more, skipping Yae's hangouts, not sparring with Torachiyo. The Seven Archon summit's soon—come with me."
"I'm researching—"
"No excuses. You're getting reclusive," Makoto cut in.
"Fine," Ei relented, overwhelmed. A sweet aroma hit—Yae Miko and Torachiyo arrived with dessert boxes.
Gulp. Ei's swallow echoed, her face flushing.
Trying to shift focus, Ei nibbled a sweet, asking, "How's Reisen Riou doing?"
"Got on Khaenri'ah's radar for some reason," Yae Miko said, smirking. "But it's handled."
Topic dodged successfully.
"He's capable but lazy," Makoto said. "His suggestions boosted Shogunate efficiency, yet he's either in the Shoryou or home, working one day a month—lazier than me!"
Makoto's clone handled most duties, but her real self worked four or five days monthly. Reisen Riou cleared everything in a day.
"So enviable," Makoto sighed.
"He's nearly done with the Shoryou books," Yae Miko said. "Wanna bet what he does next?"
"Practice powerful forbidden spells," Torachiyo guessed.
"Develop new tech," Makoto said, seeing him as a tech enthusiast.
"I'll hold the bets," Yae Miko grinned. "Ei?"
"He'll solidify his foundational knowledge," Ei said.
They handed small trinkets to Yae Miko for their game. "If he does nothing, I win," she added, setting a three-month deadline.
