Chapter 735: Spirit Farer
"Did you do something to that woman?" Upon entering the room, Noah looked at Xin Yan sitting on a chair in the corner of the room, sipping a cold beverage with a blissful look on her face. "She had been following after me from the Emperor's study up until the end of this hallway."
Xin Yan paused and lowered her cup with a calm, innocent smile on her face. "I did not do anything."
"She ran away like she had seen a ghost." Noah chuckled, sure that Xin Yan had definitely done something. She was terrible at keeping secrets from him.
"She scared herself." She tried to defend herself with an annoyed huff that made her look cute before revealing everything that had happened.
"To think I would see someone who is not even in the soul formation realm or from the Mage world perform an astral jump?" Noah muttered to himself, plopping down on the chair opposite to Xin Yan.
"Astral—what?" The blue-haired beauty looked at him quizzically, her head tilted to the right. "From what I know, they are called spiritfarers. People who can access the spirit world and travel through it through a special means. The interesting part about them is that they don't even need to reach the Soul Formation Realm."
Noah hummed along as he accessed the information on the Spiritfarer in his mind. He did find a few basic details about their techniques and all, but surprisingly, there were not any specific details on them.
He tapped his temple, his tone distracted. "I checked for references… There are mentions, but nothing specific. No technique. No origin. Just whispers."
"Well, where I'm from," Xin Yan said, lifting her cup again, "they call them Spirit Farers."
Noah looked at her. "You've seen them before?"
She gave a solemn nod. "Not often. But once? Long ago. They don't belong to any sect, but they act like one. A hidden bloodline cult, more than anything. Their ability to cross into the spirit realm isn't a technique—it's in their blood." Her voice dropped. "They say their ancestor was a god."
Noah blinked. "A god?"
Xin Yan smiled without humor. "A being who ascended beyond the peak. One who left the physical plane entirely. Some say he still wanders the Mirror Realm, whispering to his descendants. Creepy, huh?"
Noah leaned back in his chair, his gaze thoughtful. "So… it's inherited."
"Oh yes. All blood. All madness." She set the cup down with a soft clink. "They're a bunch of lunatics, Noah. Willing to violate any boundary. They sell secrets stolen from right before your eyes while you cannot even see them."
Noah realized how powerful their ability was in terms of gathering information, but the dangers of the spirit realm also made it difficult for them to roam freely in there.
"Imagine you are being… intimate, and they are standing right beside your bed writing down every piece of information about you." Xin Yan spoke with a disgusting tone, but the light blush on her face and the sneaking glances at him caught Noah off-guard.
Noah felt the world shattering when he started to wonder if she liked being watched by others, but the disgust in her tone was real, so it made him realize that she was picturing him and herself in her mind.
The mild touch of pink on her pale cheeks made her look even more beautiful.
Then Noah's gaze slid to the closed door.
"Now that we know she's been staying close to the Emperor… gathering information," he said slowly, fingers tapping against the chair's armrest, "all that's left is to figure out what she wants—and who she's working for."
Xin Yan tilted her head, brows furrowing. "Why do we need to go through all that trouble for? What does it all have to do with us?"
Noah turned his eyes back to her, a flicker of seriousness in them now.
"When I went to look for the emperor to give him the list, he acted the way we expected him to act and agreed to exchange something of great value from their empire for the Soul Salvaging Prism." He leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees, voice dropping into a lower register. "He added a condition and asked me to look into her. Wen Ji."
Xin Yan blinked. "Soul Salvaging Prism?"
"I came up with the name myself." He nodded seriously, making Xin Yan chuckle. He laughed with her and continued, "Apparently, for the past few years, she's been nothing but calm. Docile. Obedient. Never caused a stir, never stepped out of line. But now, all of a sudden—she's a different creature."
Xin Yan's brows arched higher. "So she went from kitten to stray cat?"
"With her claws out," Noah added with a dry chuckle.
"As soon as she saw you…" Xin Yan lowered her gaze as it grew heavier and sharper, making the room turn colder.
Noah chuckled lightly and corrected, "When she realized that the emperor was planning on signing a big deal with an empire he had no prior relations with before."
"I can just go and interrogate the information out of her…" Xin Yan raised her hand with an innocent look on her face, but somehow a small dagger had appeared in her hands.
"We can keep that as our last option." Noah nodded along with her madness, not showing any hints of stopping her. "But for now, we know that she wants to get close to me, and it has something to do with the deal she thinks is being signed between the two empires."
Xin Yan twirled the dagger between her fingers like it was nothing more than a toy, her expression unreadable. After a moment, she let out a breath and let the blade vanish into her sleeve with a flick of her wrist.
"You make a fair point," she said, leaning back in her chair.
"I'll keep an eye on her," Xin Yan added, eyes narrowing slightly. "But Noah… if she is a Spirit Farer, and she's here on a mission—she's not working alone."
Noah's eyes sharpened. "You're sure?"
"I'd bet my dagger on it," she said simply. "Spirit Farers aren't solitary by nature. They work in pairs or triads—one to anchor, one to scout, and sometimes a third to clean up the mess. If she's on assignment, someone else is either backing her up… or watching someone or someplace else while she does her work here."
