Ghoul: Starting with Sharingan

Chapter 76: The Dodgy Mother

Roma thought she had successfully escaped, and as she was quietly rejoicing, a slender figure dressed in black appeared, blocking her path.

Judging by the "Dove" badge on his chest, he appeared to be a ghoul investigator.

However, Roma didn't take him seriously.

She was familiar with the warden and associate special class investigators guarding Cochlea but this black-clad investigator seemed unfamiliar. His rank didn't appear to be high, so she decided to simply ignore him.

She planned to continue evading him by running along the wall.

Although the quinque in his hand looked intimidating, she didn't recognize the Owl.

When Roma was captured by Tsuneyoshi, it was so long ago that Yoshimura probably wasn't even the Cleaner for V yet.

At that time, Tsuneyoshi was likely still just the CCG Bureau Chief, not yet the Chairman — a matter from at least a decade or two ago.

Byakuya observed her appearance and quickly identified her. Although she looked harmless and childlike, appearing to be only in her twenties, she was actually about forty years old.

In the original series timeline, she was over fifty yet still didn't look aged.

Byakuya raised the quinque Owl in his hand.

He had already predicted her movements and fired blade-like kagune projectiles in that direction.

This quinque, made from ukaku, had the same projectile capability as Yoshimura's.

"What?!"

Feeling a sudden and intense sense of danger, Roma was startled.

She tried to dodge, but she was half a step too late. Her side was struck by several of the ukaku projectiles, which were extremely powerful.

The intense pain threw her off balance, causing her to fall from the wall to the ground. She writhed in agony, seemingly incapacitated.

Byakuya walked over slowly. Just as he stood in front of her, several rinkaku tentacles shot out suddenly from her abdomen, aiming straight at him.

Her closed eyes flew open, revealing ghoul-red kakugan, and a sly grin spread across her face, thinking she had outsmarted him.

However, Byakuya had already anticipated this move. He knew that Roma often used such tricks to ambush others.

He stepped back while leaning his upper body backward. The tentacles grazed just above his hairline.

"Useless…" he said calmly.

"What a troublesome guy!"

Roma clicked her tongue in frustration.

She realized that this man was undoubtedly a special-class investigator.

With an unknown ghoul organization behind her and this black-clad investigator in front, she had nowhere to run.

Reluctantly, she decided she had no choice but to fight.

Suddenly, multiple kagune sprouted from her body, enveloping her and transforming her into a massive kakuja — a grotesque being known as the Dodgy Mother.

In this form, she had multiple enormous kagune arms, which she used for movement, and her body was covered with grotesque human-like legs.

The kakuja's hairstyle mirrored her own, and her head and arms protruded from the forehead of the monstrous form.

"ROOOAARRR!"

She let out a furious roar, revealing rows of densely packed teeth in its gaping mouth.

It was, without a doubt, the ugliest kakuja Byakuya had ever seen.

"Your kakuja form is hideous. Try making it more presentable next time" he remarked, offering what he felt was constructive criticism.

Advanced kakuja users could modify their appearance to some extent, and Roma should have been no exception.

"What do you know, kid? This is art you simply can't appreciate!"

She sneered at his suggestion.

Byakuya, uninterested in further banter, gripped Owl and charged forward.

Despite its massive size, Roma lacked the agility of Kuzen and Eto and relied primarily on brute strength and size.

With the Mangekyo, Byakuya had no trouble dealing with such ghouls. To him, Roma was nothing more than a punching bag.

Roma, even at her peak, wasn't particularly strong for an SSS rated ghoul. Years of imprisonment in Cochlea and subsisting on rotten flesh had further weakened her.

At that moment, Byakuya's quinque, suddenly disassembled. Part of it sank underground unnoticed by Roma, who failed to react in time.

The next second, the underground segment of Owl erupted from the ground directly beneath Roma, piercing through her body. The ukaku shards exploded within her like shotgun pellets, inflicting devastating damage.

Byakuya then grabbed Roma from the forehead of her kakuja form, forcibly pulling her out.

This time, she wasn't feigning injury — she was genuinely on the brink of death.

[Ding! The host has defeated the SSS rated ghoul Dodgy Mother. Reward: 100 Attribute Points!]

Meanwhile, Donato standing behind Byakuya merely observed, doing nothing and saying nothing.

He knew Roma was the founder of Clowns, but she didn't recognize him, as she had been imprisoned long before he joined the Clowns and became the third leader.

He felt reassured that his earlier decision to surrender had been correct. Otherwise, he'd likely have ended up just like her.

Byakuya called over a first-class investigator and instructed, "Keep an eye on her. Make sure she's returned to her cell"

"Yes, Investigator Byakuya!"

The investigator nodded solemnly.

Byakuya proceeded deeper into the underground passage, pretending to chase after fleeing ghouls, with Donato obediently following behind him.

Shortly after his departure, the One-Eyed Owl suddenly entered Cochlea through the opening Byakuya had forcibly created earlier, landing near the first-class investigator.

The ghouls she had intercepted in the underground passage had already joined the Aogiri Tree and retreated.

The investigator, shaken by the Owl's sudden appearance, fell to the ground in shock.

'One-Eyed Owl was supposed to be in the 13th Ward — what was she doing here?!'

Eto cast him an indifferent glance before ignoring him entirely.

She had no intention of harming him, instinctively considering Byakuya's potential reaction.
