Chapter 82: Furuta and Rize
Eto genuinely found Minami to be quite endearing.
Perhaps Minami, as a ghoul, could be ruthless, but during their recent interaction, Eto hadn't noticed a single hint of pretense. In other words, this gentle and polite demeanor was likely Minami's true personality.
But as a ghoul trying to survive in this cruel world, Minami had no choice but to adopt cruelty and harshness.
Now, thanks to considerable support—not just from Byakuya and Arima, but also from the Anteiku — she could live a life resembling that of a normal human girl.
In Eto's perspective, Byakuya's efforts to support Minami and even facilitate her bond with Arima clearly showed that he held no ulterior motives toward her.
"..."
Byakuya had grown tired of refuting the "lolicon" label, to the point of no longer bothering to deny it.
[Ding! Host has successfully checked in and received 1 Attribute Point!]
[Ding! Host has consecutively checked in for 30 days and received a bonus reward: 20 Attribute Points!]
Unknowingly, Byakuya had already spent a month in this world.
After spending a wave of points previously, he had accumulated quite a stash again.
[Current Attribute Points: 465]
[Ding! Host has successfully allocated points!]
[Physical Strength +10]
[RC Cell Count +300]
[Attribute Points -400]
Byakuya allocated some points and left a portion in reserve as usual.
[Physical Strength: 60]
[RC Cell Count: 500 (Reservoir: +850)]
His "Physical Strength" stat now reached about six times the average human's, and the additional RC Cells were stored directly into his reservoir.
"Now I should be able to use the kamui techniques more freely..." Byakuya mentally calculated his improved capabilities.
"Big Brother Byakuya!"
At that moment, a familiar voice interrupted his thoughts. It was Furuta's voice.
That's right — Byakuya was currently in the Sunlit Garden.
He hadn't forgotten about Furuta and Rize, often checking in on them..
"Is something on your mind?" Furuta asked with some concern.
"No, just remembering something. It's nothing serious" Byakuya explained.
"Oh, I see. But with you being both the leader of the 2nd Ward and a Special-Class Investigator while also answering to Mr. Kaiko, it's no wonder you're swamped!" Furuta remarked with a tone that expressed sympathy for the workload.
His unique background granted him access to knowledge far beyond the average hybrid child in there.
"Well, it's not that bad" Byakuya replied with a faint smile. "With your potential, Furuta, I think you'll eventually reach a position like mine. Better prepare yourself mentally!"
Byakuya found conversations with Furuta, and even Rize, quite engaging — not purely for quests purposes.
"Big Brother Byakuya, you think too highly of me" Furuta scratched his head modestly. "But I'll try my best to take you as my role model!"
"You can do it" Byakuya encouraged.
After spending time with Furuta, Byakuya had observed that his mindset was still relatively pure.
However, due to the Washuu clan's unjust treatment, Furuta had a deep desire to prove his worth.
Furuta was, in fact, the son of Tsuneyoshi Washuu, head of the Washuu clan. Yet, because he was born of a mistress, Furuta was denied the Washuu name, unable to acknowledge his father, and relegated to the Sunlit Garden, a segregated zone for hybrids.
The original story even depicted a scene where Arima noticed young Furuta practicing relentlessly in the Garden. The boy's talent and determination left an impression on Arima.
Hearing Byakuya's encouragement, Furuta beamed with a genuine smile.
He truly idolized Byakuya — not just as the CCG's strongest pillar, but also as a most trusted operative of Mr. Kaiko. If he could achieve similar greatness, perhaps his father and the clan might finally recognize his worth.
"So boring... Can't we just stay here and relax?"
Rize, lying lazily on the grass, muttered in boredom.
"Well..." Furuta hesitated, almost mentioning her role as the 'womb', but stopped himself.
Although Byakuya likely already knew the truth, revealing it aloud could lead to severe consequences from the clan if word got out.
The term "womb" referred to the Washuu clan's child-bearers.
The Washuu clan prized their lineage, valuing those with human-like traits more highly. Pure-blooded ghouls like Rize, ironically, ranked at the bottom. Cast into the Sunlit Garden, she was designated as a womb, tasked with producing the next generation of the Washuu lineage — a dehumanizing role as a reproductive machine.
"Whatever" Rize scoffed. "Furuta, no matter how hard you try, you won't change anything."
Her tone was indifferent, reflecting her cynicism toward the clan's oppressive system.
"As long as you focus your efforts in the right direction, things can change" Byakuya interjected.
"Big Brother Byakuya is right. If you don't even try, there's no chance at all" Furuta agreed firmly.
"Fine, suit yourselves" Rize muttered with a slight pout.
Although she didn't want to admit it, Byakuya's occasional favors, like bringing her items from outside, made her less inclined to argue.
Byakuya checked the time and realized it was time to leave. Rising to his feet, he said,
"Furuta, Rize, I'll see you next time"
"Leaving so soon, Big Brother Byakuya?" Furuta asked, disappointed.
"Yes, there's still a lot to handle outside" Byakuya replied with a nod.
"Alright then..."
"Goodbye, Furuta, Rize" Byakuya said before departing.
As he bid them farewell, a familiar system prompt echoed in his mind.
