Chapter 93: A Crushing Defeat

The system automatically classified the level of the half-kakuja just defeated, as the CCG lacked detailed intelligence on ghouls inhabiting the depths of the 24th Ward.
After tearing out the kagune of that ghoul, Byakuya repurposed it as a temporary weapon for his Susano'o. While it wasn't as refined or durable as a quinque, its raw offensive power sufficed.
Gripping the kagune in one of Susano'o's massive hands, Byakuya reversed his grip and pierced another ghoul abdomen, pinning them firmly to the ground.
However, the stronger the ghoul, the tougher they are, and this one retained mobility despite the injury. Twisting his body unnaturally, he released a tail-like kagune, coiling it around the weapon that impaled him, and forcibly pulled it out.
The ghoul's body erupted with more kagune — an estimated four or five —quickly covering him in a robust kakuja armor.
This one was clearly of kakuja level.
However, his Kakuja form was cramped within the narrow passageway, restricting his mobility. He was far less overwhelming than Byakuya, who could break through kagune walls with ease.
At the same time, three other ghouls moved into action, partially transforming into half-kakuja states.
It seemed that becoming a high member of the Labyrinth required at least achieving half-kakuja status.
"Die!"
The trio lunged at Byakuya in unison.
One kakuja in particular displayed an extraordinary ability: his chest, composed of reinforced RC cells, morphed into a massive cannon-like kagune. This weapon was the result of incorporating ukaku cells through cannibalization, adding ranged firepower to his original rinkaku abilities.
"Boom!"
The cannon fired an RC-cell-concentrated projectile with such force that the recoil sent the kakuja reeling a step back.
The powerful attack, however, simply passed through Byakuya without inflicting any damage. Instead, the projectile smashed into the mechanism behind him, obliterating three of the five kagune walls in an instant.
By then, Eto — fully transformed into her monstrous kakuja form — destroyed the remaining two walls. She nearly collided with the cannon shot but narrowly avoided it as it dissipated after piercing the third wall.
Despite the destruction, they focused solely on Byakuya, paying no heed to Eto or the advancing Aogiri Tree members.
Yet their attacks couldn't land on Byakuya, their kagune simply phased through his body.
"What the hell is this?! Why can't we even touch him?"
"Damn it! His ability is so bizarre!"
"This is bad. Retreat to the second defensive line immediately!"
Realizing the situation was dire, they began to withdraw.
"Is that all you've got?"
Byakuya's calm voice cut through the commotion as his mangekyo sharingan glowed ominously, streaked with bloodshot lines.
He activated Double Kamui, creating two swirling spatial distortions around the necks of two half-kakuja.
Unlike single Kamui, Double Kamui allowed him to open multiple space-time portals simultaneously—albeit at a much greater cost.
"What is—"
Before the two could comprehend the strange sensation of spatial warping, their heads were torn off.
The severed heads hit the ground, rendering them incapable of combat.
Given the severe damage to their necks from the spatial distortion, even their potent regenerative abilities couldn't restore them. Attaching their heads back wouldn't suffice for a quick recovery.

Eto and her allies arrived just in time to witness the spectacle, struck by the sheer power and mystery of Byakuya's abilities.
Seizing the opportunity, Byakuya wielded the kagune weapon in Susano'o's hands to skewer another half-kakuja.

With that, all four half-kakuja members were subdued. Only the kakuja leader remained, but sensing defeat, he fled. In his panic, the narrow passage forced him to trample his own subordinates, crushing many into pulp.
With the defeat and retreat of their leaders, the remaining Labirynth forces fell into disarray, scattering in panic.
Byakuya refrained from pursuing them immediately. These ghouls were already trapped, so there was no need to exhaust his Kamui further. Deactivating his Susanoo, he conserved RC cells, which had already been heavily depleted.
"Not going after them right away?" Eto asked as she approached him.
"No rush. Let's deal with these first" Byakuya replied, glancing at the four incapacitated executives.
Although gravely wounded, they were still alive — barely. Byakuya left their fates to Eto and her group.
Without hesitation, Eto consumed their kakuhous.
Now dead beyond recovery, these half-kakujas would pose no further threat.
"These guys carried a stench I hated" Eto remarked, explaining her personal vendetta against them.
"Fine by me" Byakuya responded with a slight nod, deducing they had wronged Eto in the past.
Aogiri Tree had no need for these four half-kakuja, especially when the mission demanded numbers, not strength. Allowing Eto to consume them significantly bolstered her own power.
Sure enough, another kakuhou grew on Eto's body, and her kakuja form expanded further.
At this rate, as Eto absorbed more RC cells, she would eventually resemble the massive, grotesque creature described in the original timeline — a true force of nature among ghouls.
