Chapter 92: Head to Toe
Byakuya completely ignored the barrage of ukaku attacks.
Meanwhile, the ghouls behind him reacted quickly. Those with koukaku immediately stepped forward, using their highly durable kagune to shield against the ukaku's assault.
"That was close! I almost got hit. I didn't expect them to modify this place so extensively!"
"But... why does it feel like our king wasn't hit at all? Those kagune seem to pass right through him!"
"Yeah, it's strange. What kind of ability is this? I can't wrap my head around it!"
"..."
Many ghouls started noticing something unusual.
If it were just incredibly rapid regeneration that allowed him to shrug off damage, they might understand.
But he didn't even flinch as the attacks passed through him. The ukaku pierced through him without slowing down, which was an entirely different concept.
This ability was beyond anything they could comprehend!
While they were shocked, it also boosted their morale.
The stronger their king, the more confident and determined they felt in battle.
Even Eto, who was fighting alongside Byakuya, was puzzled by his power.
She had never seen him use this ability before and was suddenly filled with curiosity.
"That lolicon bastard is definitely hiding a lot of secrets. After this is over, I'll dig every single one of them out!"
Eto made a mental note.
She had suspected for a while that this guy harbored many secrets, and now it was undeniable.
And not just any secrets — they were extraordinary.
This power was unlike anything she'd ever seen. It was completely different from Noro's.
Noro's regeneration came from being turned into a "kagune monster," with his entire body composed of kagune. His immense regeneration gave the illusion of being "invincible."
But Byakuya's ability wasn't an illusion. It was true, absolute untouchability.
This intrigued Eto immensely, and she could hardly wait to figure out how he achieved it.
At that moment, Byakuya began to move.
While "intangibility" allowed him to ignore all physical damage, he could also act freely.
Currently, his physical form had shifted entirely into the Kamui dimension, leaving only a consciousness-like projection in this world.
When he began walking directly into the ukaku barrage, the ghouls behind him couldn't help but wonder what their king was planning.
Then something happened that left them utterly dumbfounded.
Byakuya walked straight through the kagune wall.
The supposedly impenetrable structure of layered kagune walls was no obstacle — he simply passed through as if it didn't exist.
All the ghouls froze, their eyes wide with disbelief.
"What?! How is this possible? How did he walk through it so easily?"
"Well, I guess this explains why the king was so elusive back in Cochlea"
"I have a feeling this will end up like last time... where we won't even get to do anything."
"..."
Even Tatara, a seasoned warrior, was visibly stunned.
He couldn't help but question whether such a power could belong to any ghoul.
As for Eto, her curiosity only deepened. She was more eager than ever to uncover the truth behind this mysterious ability.
On the other side of the kagune wall...
The members of the Labyrinth were laughing confidently.
"They think they can take us on? They're too naïve. We've ruled the 24th Ward for years—did they really think we wouldn't have defenses?"
One of the members sneered, "We've got five layers of kagune walls made from the hardest koukaku. It'll take them ages to break through, and in these narrow tunnels, large attackers can't fight effectively."
And this was only the first line of defense.
If the five walls were breached, they could easily retreat to the second line of defense.
The Labyrinth had been preparing for scenarios like this for decades.
"Exactly. We'll wear down those Aogiri Tree fools through sheer attrition. Whether it's the One-Eyed Owl or the One-Eyed King, they're nothing once they're exhausted!"
The members laughed smugly, with their underlings feeling similarly at ease.
But then, a cold voice echoed through the air.
"Oh, really?"
The unfamiliar voice came from the front, sending a chill down their spines.
The cadres froze mid-laughter, realizing something was wrong.
Through the gaps in the walls, they saw a dark figure emerge—a tall figure wearing a tiger striped mask with a single glowing eye.
"You! How did you get here?!"
The members of the Labyrinth were stunned.
Byakuya didn't reply. His sharingan spun, and in the blink of an eye, he teleported directly in front of them.
His dual Kamui allowed for faster movement than a single one. The distortion of space left the enemies unable to react in time.
The One-Eyed King now stood right before them. They recoiled in terror, stumbling backward.
Byakuya activated his Susano'o.
A massive ribcage formed around him, and two skeletal arms emerged, smashing through the narrow tunnel with overwhelming force.
Even in its initial stage, Susano'o was far beyond what any kagune wall could withstand.
Up close, the power was even more devastating. One of Susano'o's hands grabbed a cadre, holding him in an unbreakable grip.
"Let me go!"
The ghoul roared, triggering his half-kakuja transformation.
With three kakuhous forming on his body, his scaled armor and rinkaku kagune emerged as his strongest weapons.
But rinkaku was exactly what Byakuya wanted.
One of Susano'o's hands held the cadre tightly, rendering his kakuja transformation useless. The other hand grabbed his kagune.
With a sudden burst of force—
Rip!
The rinkaku kagune, along with part of the kakuhous, was torn away.
"Aaaargh!"
The ghoul screamed in agony, collapsing to the ground. He was barely alive and unable to rise.
Byakuya didn't spare him a glance.
His crimson eyes shifted toward the other ghouls, his voice icy.
"Now, which of you still thinks we're the ones who are weak?"
