Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Delivering a Letter (2/2)
"Very good. Put this letter inside the envelope you just took out."
Hearing Qin Siyang's praise, the child shyly smiled.
"Then, on the envelope, write these words that I write."
The child obediently complied again, and Qin Siyang nodded.
"Really impressive! Can you help me put this envelope into the big box at the entrance of the police station?"
The child seemed a little confused.
Qin Siyang erased the marks he had just drawn on the ground, threw the wooden stick into the depths of the alley, and then said, "Follow me."
He led the child out of the alley and saw the brightly lit police station, "Do you see that big blue box?"
The child nodded.
"Help me put this letter inside, okay? You're so amazing—you can definitely do it."
Looking at the police station, for some reason, the child suddenly became scared.
"No… no…"
The child's expression showed strong resistance, as if he had suffered at the hands of the police officers before.
"If you help me put it in, I'll give you something delicious to eat."
As he spoke, Qin Siyang opened the lunchbox in his bag, revealing centipede mushroom rice.
The moment the child saw the food, his eyes lit up.
"You promise…"
"Mm, I won't go back on my word. I'll wait for you right here."
The child gritted his teeth, seeming to make a huge decision. Staring at the police station's mailbox, he clenched his teeth and ran toward it with all his might.
Qin Siyang watched as the child placed the letter into the mailbox and then ran back.
Panting heavily, the child said, slightly out of breath, "The food…"
"Really impressive!"
Qin Siyang smiled and handed him the lunchbox.
The child immediately started devouring the food hungrily.
Qin Siyang watched the child finish eating, then put away the lunchbox.
"Was it delicious?"
The child nodded with a smile.
"If it was delicious, I'll bring you more next time. Oh, and if anyone asks you anything, remember to say that you can't read. Got it?"
"Mm!"
Qin Siyang left the alley and turned toward the school.
He could have given the child better food. However, only cafeteria meals had a strong enough smell to mask his scent, ensuring that no one could track it back to him.
"Hopefully, we can have a pleasant meeting tomorrow, Officer Roylena."
An hour later, officers started arriving at the police station one after another. Roylena was among them.
"Roylena, morning!"
"Levi, morning!"
Roylena greeted her colleagues warmly.
"Roylena, it looks like there's a letter for you here."
The mailroom staff frowned as they carefully examined the handwriting on the envelope, not entirely certain.
"It might not be yours, but I think these characters… should mean 'For Roylena.' What do you think?"
Roylena took the envelope and looked at the twisted handwriting, feeling a bit puzzled.
"When did it arrive?"
"Not sure. Maybe last night, maybe this morning. I just found it when I was sorting the mailbox. Could be some kid playing a prank."
"The envelope isn't even sealed. I'll open it and take a look. If it's not for me, I'll leave it here for someone to claim."
"Mm, I think that's a good idea, Roylena."
Roylena smiled, opened the envelope, and glanced inside. Her smile instantly froze.
