God Eater Sequence: The Devourer

Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Still as Calm (1/2)

Then she smiled again, "It's my letter, thank you!"

"Oh, it's nothing, this is my job, you know."

"Roylena, morning!"

"Oh… morning, Peter."

Roylena still greeted people warmly, looking no different from before.

However, after entering her office and closing the door behind her, she immediately and impatiently opened the envelope, once again looking at the contents of the letter.

["Tonight at nine, the woods beside Spring Willow Alley. Let's talk about your sequence. I am very merciful and friendly. I hope you won't do anything to disappoint me."]

Roylena clenched her fists, and her waterfall-like golden hair trembled with fear and anger.

'Damn it! How could someone know about my forged sequence?', She looked at the letter again, then thought, 'Could it be that this person doesn't actually know about it and just wants to learn about [Fragrance Seeker]?'

But she immediately dismissed that thought, 'No, impossible. If they just wanted to learn about Fragrant Seeker, they could check at [Godslayer Camp]. There's no need to meet me.'

She took a badge out of the pocket on her chest and placed it on the letter.

A certain spot on the badge suddenly emitted a red glow.

Roylena's face immediately showed surprise, "The person who wrote the letter is nearby."

She quickly loaded her pistol, put on her uniform, and left the police station, pretending to be on duty.

Following the red dot on the badge, Roylena arrived at the alley where Qin Siyang had been that morning.

She looked at the stray orphan sleeping soundly in front of her, then glanced at her badge again, showing a look of disdain.

"An orphan? How is that possible?"

But the badge's guidance couldn't be wrong.

She used the tip of her leather shoe to nudge the sleeping child.

"Wake up."

The child rubbed his eyes, then looked up to see Roylena in her police uniform and was so scared that he immediately sat up.

"This letter, did you write it?"

The child first nodded, then, as if realizing something, desperately shook his head.

Roylena immediately pressed him, "Who made you write it? What does he look like?"

The child suddenly remembered what Qin Siyang had told him before leaving and, on the verge of tears, said, "I can't read… I can't read… I don't know who…"

Roylena frowned, not understanding why the child was giving irrelevant answers.

But since this child had written her the letter, he had to die. She absolutely couldn't let all her efforts be ruined by this letter.

Just as she pulled out her gun from her waist, ready to shoot the crying child, she suddenly remembered the words in the letter.

["I am very merciful and friendly. I hope you won't do anything to disappoint me."]

'What did that sentence mean?'

'Was it a warning not to kill him?'

The child continued crying and shouting, "I can't read… I can't read…"

'So, this is what he meant by not being able to read.'

Everything had been arranged by the person who set up the meeting.

It seemed that she couldn't kill this child just yet. At least not until she dealt with the mastermind behind the letter tonight—then she would come back to kill him.

Roylena slowly lowered the gun in her hand, gave the tear-streaked child a cold glance, and strode away.

Qin Siyang sat in the classroom, gazing at the starry sky and divine moon outside the window, thinking about how to talk to Roylena tonight.
