Godzilla Earth: Origin

Chapter 112: Volume 2 Chapter 55: Pierce the Stars! (Part 3)

In truth, the shield was the loser in this battle.

Even with a thickness of 20 meters and composed of countless layers of reflective membranes, the strongest shield could not possibly withstand a 4-petawatt, 3-second laser strike without being penetrated.

Physics simply doesn't allow it. At least within the realm of chemical bond materials, there is no substance capable of enduring such an intense attack at a single point, at that thickness, without being pierced.

Such a material does not exist.

Thus, the reason the Ghidorah's Wings managed to withstand the attack was not because their shield was strong enough to fully defend against the laser. The real reason was…

Their shield could hold out for just an instant.

If it could endure for a fleeting moment, the Ghidorah's Wings could adjust their position in that instant, preventing the laser from continuously acting on a single point.

As long as they accomplished this, they could redirect the laser to a different, undamaged section of their shield just as it was about to penetrate the original point of impact.

In the brief 3-second period of contact with the laser, this Ghidorah's Wings made over ten minute adjustments to its position, preventing the laser from maintaining continuous focus on a single spot.

As a result, although significant damage appeared across the enemy's shield, there was no point at which it was fully penetrated by the laser.

If the outer defense couldn't be breached, how could the core behind it be struck?

The Ghidorah's Wings had learned, and they employed a new method to avoid destruction.

Their stacked wings clustered together, forming a shield wall as if it had descended from the heavens. Though Godzilla prepared its fifth and sixth laser breaths, the Ghidorah's Wings' new posture blocked all of them.

Now, Godzilla realized that its next four attacks would likely no longer be able to kill multiple Ghidorah's Wings with each shot, as it had done previously.

At this current laser power, it was no longer possible to cripple one and kill another with just a single shot.

To kill a Ghidorah's Wings with the laser now required multiple consecutive strikes. Only by delivering repeated attacks, causing their "shields" to sustain so much cumulative damage that they no longer had time to react, could Godzilla hope to break through.

Like this!

The seventh laser illuminated the Australian horizon. Just like the previous beams, it crossed the same vast distance and struck one of the Ghidorah's Wings directly.

Following a brilliant flash, far shorter than the previous ones, another Ghidorah's Wings disappeared from Godzilla's Earth-Wide Radar.

Through repeated attacks, Godzilla managed to completely melt down the "shield" of a Ghidorah's Wings. Once its entire surface was destroyed, the shield's reflective capabilities became irrelevant—nothing could keep it alive anymore.

There were only three laser strikes left. Hopefully, it could eliminate one more Ghidorah's Wings.

Despite the immense power of petawatt-class lasers, Godzilla didn't have materials strong enough to sustain prolonged or repeated focusing.

Each shot required a new set of focusing equipment. After using up the ten sets of optical components it had accumulated over the past two days, Godzilla would no longer be able to perform orbital sniping on the Ghidorah's Wings.

It would be forced into hand-to-hand combat with them on the ground.

There were still 11 Ghidorah's Wings left. Even if the next three laser breaths managed to take down one more, that would leave 10 of them.

What's more, reinforcements were on their way… With so many hostile titans wreaking havoc across the planet, Earth's climate would inevitably undergo drastic changes.

Godzilla didn't want that to happen—at least not now.

So from this point on, it was up to humanity.

"You must intercept as many of the Ghidorah's Wings in space as possible."

With a new set of optical components prepared, Godzilla's mouth began to glow once again. It turned toward the distant horizon, toward the morning star, ready to do the last thing it could.

"This is my final three orbital strikes!"

Ten minutes, ten ultra-powerful, long-range strikes across 300,000 kilometers.

This was everything Godzilla could do from the ground—its final laser attack against the approaching Ghidorah's Wings.

The first wave of Ghidorah's Wings—10 remaining.

...

"Godzilla's laser strikes have ceased for over half an hour now. We can confirm that its attacks are complete... Incredible. Godzilla was able to snipe the Ghidorah's Wings on the Moon from Earth..."

"Truly worthy of the monster that drove us to the brink of extinction."

In the World United Government's Monster Combat Headquarters, the atmosphere was bustling with intense activity. They were preparing for the Ghidorah's Wings' arrival on Earth in a few hours, mapping satellite distributions to arrange optimal defense forces.

Meanwhile, amidst the busy preparations, some idle chatter continued.

"Four out of the initial 14 Ghidorah's Wings have been confirmed dead. That leaves only 10. Our burden has been significantly reduced. With the super-electromagnetic cannons and nuclear strike network in the Middle East, we can handle it! We might even be able to take them all down before they hit the ground! It's all thanks to Godzilla!"

An analyst shouted in excitement. Reducing the first wave of Ghidorah's Wings by one-third was fantastic news for humanity.

This greatly improved the odds for the Middle East, where concerns had been mounting about the insufficient number of super-electromagnetic cannons to deal with all the Ghidorah's Wings.

Now, they might be able to eliminate the threat locally before it spread to Europe.

"No one expected Godzilla to have such capabilities. It really helped us out. Luckily, it hasn't figured out a way to counter the Oxygen Destroyer. Otherwise, how would we have any hope of fighting a creature like that?"

Someone muttered in awe, and surprisingly, no one around rebuked him for such morale-dampening remarks.

Everyone wore similar expressions of agreement—"Yeah, we're lucky it hasn't come to that."

Over the past few days, as combat staff at headquarters, they had witnessed firsthand the drastic changes Godzilla had undergone. They were also keenly aware of how little humanity could do against that super-beast.

Even enemies from Venus, like the Ghidorah's Wings, had been taken down by Godzilla in outer space, nearly a third of them destroyed. If they had made it to Earth…

Even without human satellites, Godzilla might have been able to wipe them all out on its own.

But that wasn't the point. If Godzilla took too long, countless lives would be lost in the meantime.

That's why humanity's nuclear strikes were necessary.

With nearly one-third of the first wave of Ghidorah's Wings eliminated, it should be easier for humanity now.

Everyone in the command center shared this thought. Their defense plan was designed for the larger waves yet to come. With only half of that force arriving now, they had a chance. If they couldn't handle even this…

They might as well declare humanity's end and surrender.

As they monitored the Ghidorah's Wings and satellites, something unexpected happened.

"This… this…"

"What's going on?"

"The Ghidorah's Wings… their landing destination…"

"It's changed!"

The sky, where the "morning star" grew ever brighter, was filled with ominous foreboding.

Even with a third of their numbers gone, the threat was far from over.
