Chapter 111: Volume 2 Chapter 54: Pierce the Stars! (Part 2)
In the depths of the dark cosmos, the Ghidorah's Wings revealed a new form.
They flapped their Ghidorah's Wings in the vacuum of space, positioning them to shield their fronts, covering themselves from Earth's direction. Then, after completing this maneuver, their massive solar sail-like wings began to fold.
Once, twice, three times…
Repeatedly folding over and over until they were smaller than when they had first unfolded in Venus's atmosphere.
Again and again, the Ghidorah's Wings folded their wings upon themselves.
With continuous overlapping, the wings transformed into something entirely different.
No longer were they 800 to 900 meters wide, nor did they resemble anything like the membranes of typical wings. Even with their shoulders included, the Ghidorah's Wings were now merely about 500 meters wide.
Their overall size had shrunk several times, and they no longer looked like wings.
Without wing membranes or visible wing bones, combined with their defensive posture, the Ghidorah's Wings appeared less like traditional Ghidorah's Wings…
And more like shields.
At this point, the shields continued to overlap, striving to grow even denser. It was at this moment, during one such overlap, that the third beam from Earth arrived!
From the interior of Australia, Godzilla's mouth aimed at another Ghidorah's Wings, unleashing a beam of light so intense that it turned the surroundings pitch black.
After replacing the focusing lens and clearing the melted parts of its mouth caused by the previous laser focus, the third laser strike commenced!
The Earth-Wide Radar locked onto its target. The laser pierced through the atmosphere and directly struck a Ghidorah's Wings whose shield was still forming, engaging in an unprecedented contest against the golden wall formed by the overlapping wing membranes.
The membranes of the wings were composed of a material specifically designed to reflect light. Now, they were layered dozens, even hundreds of times, attempting to resist the beam from Earth!
The laser, having crossed the 300,000 kilometers between Earth and Moon, struck the "shield" head-on!
In an instant, an unprecedented brightness erupted at the impact site, a brilliance far surpassing that of the previous two strikes—a testament to the intense reflection of photons!
The "Morning Star" visible from Earth's surface was now shining ten times brighter. It flickered with such astonishing brilliance that, while it didn't create a second sun in the sky, it momentarily turned morning into noon.
But it lasted only for an instant.
Layer after layer melted, and layer after layer was pierced. The shield, still incomplete, was sublimated under the terrifying power of the supercharged beam! Even though the shield was made from the strongest reflective material known, against a petawatt-class laser, sublimation was its only fate.
In the blink of an eye, the impossible brightness vanished.
The several-meter-thick overlapping membranes of the shield were entirely melted through within a second. The remaining laser still fully penetrated the shield and struck the core of the Ghidorah's Wings behind it.
The outer protective layer of the core dissolved instantly, as if ice thrown into a blazing fire, unable to withstand even a second of assault like the shield had.
The laser pierced straight through, causing the entirety of its internal structure to begin boiling. The phenomenon that had occurred with the first Ghidorah's Wings now appeared again: its head swayed as if howling in agony.
Molten parts from the wound scattered into the pitch-black void!
Its body convulsed, and the Ghidorah's Wings that had been preparing for further folding ceased their movement. Finally, with its neck frozen in place, the monster from Venus fell into lifeless silence.
With a single strike, it was killed instantly.
Compared to the first Ghidorah's Wings, this one was extraordinarily unlucky.
Even though it didn't suffer the full brunt of the beam, Godzilla's shot had perfectly struck its main reactor—essentially destroying its heart and delivering a fatal blow.
The corpse drifted toward Earth, destined to become a meteor that would crash into the blue planet a few hours later, blending in as just another ordinary meteorite.
The third laser strike had ended. Twelve Ghidorah's Wings remained, and seven laser launchers were left operational.
At this moment, Godzilla's throat burned with a temperature approaching that of the sun. The interior of its throat was not only melting the focusing crystals but also liquefying the metals comprising it.
Yet it didn't care. As long as it could eliminate more enemies beyond this planet, it didn't mind at all.
The fourth set of crystals was ready, and the fourth shot was locked onto its target.
The Earth-Wide Radar allowed Godzilla to target enemies 300,000 kilometers away.
The light in its mouth gleamed once more, locking onto another target to kill.
Boom!
The sound of the laser heating the air caused the surrounding atmosphere to expand and explode. This beam, originating from Earth, surged toward the remaining twelve Ghidorah's Wings.
At the same moment, the Ghidorah's Wings finished their transformation while Godzilla was replacing its focusing lens. Their wings, now in their final form, just barely managed to shield the core of their bodies from the front.
In terms of wingspan, each pair of Ghidorah's Wings was now only about 100 meters wide. By comparison, they were several dozen times smaller than they had been initially.
However, in another sense—
Their fully stacked wings had reached a thickness of over 20 meters.
Coupled with the unique properties of the material they were made of, these shields now qualified as barriers against light—genuine contenders capable of standing against a petawatt-class laser.
The strongest spear had met the strongest shield. Who would prevail?
Once again, dazzling light appeared in space. On the Moon, human satellites continuously captured photos, attempting to fully record this battle of the century between spear and shield.
In Australia, morning gleamed like midday. The brilliance of the "Morning Star" dominated the sky, etching an unforgettable memory into the minds of people worldwide.
0.5 seconds… 1 second… 1.5 seconds…
The contest between spear and shield continued.
Far away in Australia's interior, Godzilla halted its radiation blast and gazed at the shining sky. It began preparing the fifth set of focusing crystals.
Then, aiming at the same target from the same direction, it initiated a second strike!
The victor of this battle between spear and shield was already becoming clear.
In space, beneath their wings, the Ghidorah's Wings bodies remained unscathed by the strike.
Had the shield…
Won?
