Chapter 307: Chapter 307 Dialogue
After the call is connected, Netero wasn't the least bit surprised when he heard voice that came from the phone wasn't Law's. He immediately recognized it as Sanbica's.
Sanbica then proceeded to give a detailed account of everything that had happened since she arrived on the island, from the moment she infiltrated the prison to when she was forced to use her ability in self-defense.
Information gathering was one of the essential skills of a Pro Hunter. Someone like Sambica, who can explain everything in detail, is exactly what Netero needs.
He listened patiently to Sanbica's narration, picking out useful information and storing it in his mind, without interrupting her from beginning to end.
Law was also listening on the side. When he heard Sanbica mention the prison, he was surprised to learn that the two Nen Users he'd taken out there were the very ones responsible for harming her.
Those two weren't weak by any means, but Law had gone through Biscuit's special training and had fought the formidable Atomu. He'd grown far beyond what those two opponents were capable of handling.
In the end, Sanbica just wasn't suited for combat, and her role leaned more toward support and logistics.
After about fifteen minutes, Netero finally finished listening to the full report. He then asked Sanbica to hand the phone over to Law, as he had something to say to him.
"Hello?"
Law said as he took the phone.
"I'm currently en route to the port. I'll board the ship tomorrow morning. If the voyage goes smoothly, I'll reach Demon Island in about eight days at the earliest." Netero said.
"You're coming in person?" Law raised an eyebrow.
"This situation has some personal history with me." Netero explained.
Law changed the subject and said, "Eight days, huh? By the time you get here, this matter may have been resolved already."
"Don't be so arrogant, brat. The fact that that kind of mutant was able to take your attack head-on and walk away unscathed shows how powerful it is. It's not something that ordinary Nen Users can handle. You've seen nearly a hundred of them, but who's to say there aren't more?"
Netero said in a deep voice: "This isn't some one-on-one duel between equals. You know what happens when the few are outnumbered by the many. Until Linne links up with you, don't act recklessly."
Law fell silent after hearing this. He knew that Linne was on her way, traveling together with Machi and the others. The only uncertainty was how long it would take them to reach the island.
'Don't act recklessly, huh… But the current situation didn't really allow me the luxury of staying low.'
The artificial creatures were indeed powerful, but he has the God Hand and Shin. When used in tandem, even if the artificial creatures have amazing defense, they wouldn't be able to withstand his attacks.
Just yesterday, he had cleanly sliced a Scale Lizard in half at the lake, and that was proof enough.
Still, Netero had a point. He needed to assume the worst-case scenario when estimating the enemy's numbers.
If there were only around a hundred, Law was confident he could take them down one by one. But if the number grew to several hundred, and he got surrounded, escape would become nearly impossible.
Thinking along those lines, the risks were clear. But Law didn't plan to just sit around and hide. Before Machi and the others arrived on Demon Island, he intended to cut their numbers in half.
After all, considering the strength of Machi and Buhara, handling one of those magical beasts might be manageable, but two, three, or even four at once? That would be pushing it.
The most important thing was that the enemy clearly had plans for Sanbica, especially that man in the lab coat. The way he looked at her was off. There was a good chance he had already figured out her ability.
Otherwise, even if Sanbica had used her ability for self-defense, there's no way she would have survived for even an hour… maybe not even half that, ten minutes tops.
In that situation, Sanbica's life restricted zone is indeed terrifying, but there are many ways to kill her. But not only did the other party not kill Sanbica, he also took the risk of locking Sanbica in a glass cell.
It is still unclear how the other party intends to use Sambica, but this alone is enough for Law to take action.
Law fell silent for a moment, then said with a joking tone, "Old man, what am I supposed to do if I'm bored out of my mind? I can't sit still anymore."
Netero had called him 'brat', so he shot back with 'old man'.
Hearing Law's words, Netero could tell exactly what Law meant, and immediately replied: "If you can't sit still, then just lie down."
"But there's no comfy bed around here." Law continued to joke, but the meaning behind his words is perfectly clear.
Netero paused for a moment, realizing that he could not persuade Law out of it, so he said, "If you're dead set on this, I won't stop you. Just be careful."
"I know." Law replied.
"Don't do anything reckless. I trust you know how to read the situation."
"Of course." Law suddenly glanced at Sanbica and added seriously, "I'm not going to give them any chances."
There will be no chance for the enemy to hurt Sanbica, nor will there be any chance for the enemy to take him down.
"Stay in touch."
Netero, who was far away on the airship, said the last sentence and then hung up the phone.
Law silently put away his phone and already thought about his next move.
"Law." Sanbica looked at him.
"Yeah?"
"What are 'mutants'?" Sanbica asked.
Since waking up, she still hadn't been told about the artificial creatures. She only knew the prison had been hiding something big, and that every member she'd encountered seemed unusually powerful.
In such a quiet environment, she could hear Netero's voice, so she knew that Netero was on his way to Demon Island. Not only that, but a group of reinforcements would be arriving before him.
But what concerned her more was word 'mutant' Netero mentioned, and Law didn't seem to want to wait for reinforcements, and wanted to deal with the enemies alone.
"I haven't told you yet, have I?" Law began, picking his words carefully.
Law then walked her through everything… how he'd infiltrated the prison, what he'd discovered, and how he eventually rescued her.
As she listened to Law's narration, Sanbica realized the secrets buried in that prison went far beyond anything she'd imagined.
'These so-called mutants were combinations of humans and magical beasts… and they could even use Nen?'
"Your ability should have been exposed, and the enemy seems to have some plans for you. Otherwise, with the enemy's ability, you would not have been able to hold on until now." Law rubbed his chin and said in a deep voice: "I don't know what the other party is planning, and honestly, I have no interest in knowing."
"But if they really are after you, it's only a matter of time before they track us down."
"Before that happens, I don't plan on sitting around and waiting. At the very least, I can draw their attention and thin their numbers while I'm at it."
"I won't let them hurt you."
At this point, Law smiled and said, "Of course, if they don't come after us too hard, we could always just hide out here for a week or so and leave all the troubles to the old man to deal with."
Sanbica bit her lip. In a situation like this, there was nothing she could do.
As if he could see through Sanbica's thoughts, Law said, "Do you remember the battle at Meteor City?"
Sanbica was stunned, then nodded and said, "I remember."
"Those mutants are very strong. Not to mention its attack power, its defense alone is hard to deal with. However, with your Nen Ability backing me up, it's a different story."
Law looked at Sanbica seriously and said with a smile: "Let me put it this way… fighting all those mutants on my own would be tough. But don't I have you here?"
"…"
Sanbica didn't know whether Law was just trying to comfort her… or if he truly needed her ability.
Still, if her abilities could be of help to Law in this situation, she would be very happy.
