Chapter 308: Chapter 308 Assault
Kuro, who is guarding outside, brought back a message that the enemy had dispatched a considerable force, conducting a sweeping, carpet-style search of the area. Because he was afraid of being discovered, Kuro had only watched from a distance before darting straight back to the cave.
Law was also expecting to learn that the other party was pursuing them relentlessly.
Expecting the enemy to back off had always just been an offhanded joke.
The people from that prison clearly regarded Sanbica as extremely valuable.
As for the reason why, Law had a pretty good idea. After all, he was one of the people who knew about Sanbica's Nen Ability.
Judging by how highly they valued her, it wasn't hard to guess their intention, as they likely wanted to use Sanbica's virus for some specific purpose.
Inside the cave, the glow from the phone screen was the only source of light.
"It seems we can't dump this mess on the Chairman after all." Law said as he sat cross-legged on the dry grass, munching on poisonous fruits Kuro had brought back. As for Sanbica, she ate wild fruits that did not contain toxins, but there are not very many of them.
Originally, Law called Netero 'old man', but at Sanbica's request, he changed his words.
"It won't take long for the enemy to search this place. If you're planning to deal with them, you'd better move fast." Kuro said.
Law did not respond to Kuro's words. He threw the last poisonous fruit into his mouth, looked at Sanbica, and asked, "How is your recovery?"
The self-defense technique Sanbica'd used back in the prison had some serious side effects, one of which was that her Potential Aura recovered very slowly.
"No problem." Sanbica said softly.
"That's good."
Law picked up Shin and turned one side of the blade toward her. Understanding his intent, Sanbica pressed her hands to the steel.
As her Aura flowed, the surface of the blade slowly took on a deep, inky green hue.
This measure, similar to applying poison, drastically changed the appearance of the blade of the sword, making it dark green in color overall, with rust spots still visible, like the markings of a venomous snake.
After squandering the little Aura she had finally recovered, Sanbica immediately felt the fatigue hit her. In her current state, she was basically defenseless.
Law retracted Shin, looked at Sanbica, who was breathing slightly heavy, and said, "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Sanbica looked up and smiled.
"Good."
Law nodded, then stood up from the hay and walked towards the cave's rocky wall.
"Kuro, protect Sanbica."
Standing in front of the rock wall, Law turned and looked at Kuro.
"You think I need you to tell me that?" Kuro raised his paw and pointed at the silver mark on his forehead.
"Law, be careful." Sanbica said with concern.
Law smiled at Sanbica, then used his ability to cut through the rock wall and headed outside.
The towering mountain loomed over the dense forest like a giant crane standing among chickens.
After Law came out of the cave, he sealed the opening behind him, leaving no trace it had ever been touched.
Then, he slipped out from behind a protruding rock ledge and began his descent along the steep slope.
Carpet-style searching wasn't fast, and it was a clumsy method, but wherever it passed, no one could hide.
In this kind of search pattern, taking out enemies one by one would be difficult. One wrong move could alert the whole unit.
Law glanced up at the cloudless night sky, where the moon shone like a giant grinding wheel, casting brilliant light across the forest.
"It's too bright."
Law murmured. If there were enough clouds in the night sky, he could launch an attack at the moment when the clouds covered the moon. Even though the forest canopy was dense, moonlight would still pass through the gaps and fall into the forest.
Any stray beam of light could give away his position.
"I'll have to take it one step at a time."
Law murmured as he glanced at the dark green Shin. It was a virus conjured by Sanbica's telekinesis. It fed on his Aura and continued to reproduce and survive.
Law can use In to eliminate his own Aura, but he couldn't erase Sanbica's. Therefore, while the poisoned blade of Shin could take down any of the enemy's magical beasts in one strike, it also risked exposing him.
And so, the one-by-one takedown began.
In the dark forest, massive figures moved among the trees.
Once night fell, many venomous creatures emerged to roam. Upon encountering these uninvited guests, they launched ferocious attacks.
However, these venomous creatures, which were enough to make ordinary Hunters tremble, couldn't even pierce the skin of these uninvited guests. Instead, they all ended up throwing away their lives.
Law, who is perched silently in a tree, used the faint moonlight filtering through the leaves to observe how the artificial creatures dealt with these venomous creatures.
'Although they can use Nen, their attack patterns are limited.'
Law looked down at a sturdy monster with a human head and a boar body. Its purple-blue body was covered with layers of hard skin.
Just moments earlier, a swarm of venomous hornets had attacked it. Their stingers, which is over a meter long, couldn't even penetrate its hide. Most of them snapped in half on impact.
In less than a minute, the dozens of dog-sized venomous hornets were killed by this artificial creature.
Law hid in the tree and watched the whole process. Having fought against these artificial creatures before, he was not surprised by the defensive power of this monster with a human head and a boar body.
This was his first target.
He hid in the tree, waiting patiently for the boar-bodied artificial creature to approach.
When the boar-bodied artificial creature came into the attack range, Law jumped down from the tree and chopped down it on the head with a knife.
Shhhk!
With a slight sound, the boar-bodied artificial creature was cut in half silently as it walked.
After succeeding, Law didn't even look back and rushed into the darkness in search of his next target.
Though his blade had sliced cleanly through the beast's defenses, the attack hadn't caused direct physical trauma, nor any pain. The real killing blow came from the mixed virus layered on the blade by Sanbica.
It wasn't until its bisected body collapsed to the ground that the boar-bodied artificial creature realized something was wrong.
While lying on the ground, it tried to notify its comrades nearby, but found that it could not make any sound and its body was getting heavier and heavier.
On the ground covered with rotten leaves, a giant purple-blue boar's body was gradually turning inky green.
Law knew very well that the mixed virus on the blade was very deadly, so after cutting the target in half, he immediately went looking for his second target.
However, he didn't know that these artificial creatures were actually in a controlled state, and the person controlling them was the man in the white coat.
Had Law known this, he would've realized that the moment any of the controlled creatures died, the controller would be instantly alerted.
In other words, the moment he struck down the first target, the enemy became aware of his actions.
And that's exactly what happened. After the boar-bodied artificial creature was infected by the fierce virus, its unrestrained Aura aggravated the effect, so that in a short period of time, the monster's vitality showed signs of depletion.
'In that direction...'
Dove suddenly turned toward a specific direction, and immediately commanded nearby creatures to converge on that area.
Five minutes later, two more monsters were killed, but they still failed to surround Law.
Dove and his companions rushed to the scene where the artificial creatures had died. The way of death was the same, being cut in half by a sharp weapon, but the true cause of death was viral infection!
In under ten minutes, three valuable artificial creatures had been lost.
Once again, Dove was reminded just how troublesome Law could be.
