Chapter 475 – Skinwalker

He quickly dodged backward, escaping from the hand just by a few inches as his heart raced rapidly. Fear crept into his mind as he realized he met a different monster compared to what he encountered last time.

This one was way more dangerous and terrifying. It could even transform into one of his teammates and act as if nothing happened while planning its next move.

'No wonder MadLad screamed so loud earlier!' Max thought as he looked around frantically. He immediately dashed toward the door and exited the room before slamming the door shut and locked it.

A loud pounding was heard behind the door, and before he knew it, the door broke out and was swung open.

He looked at the elevator, where everyone was looking at him strangely. Without wasting a second, he immediately shouted at them while waving his hand frantically.

"Run... NOW!"

Like a rocket, everyone except Princess Peach sprang up and ran toward him. She shivered slightly before trying to walk forward, but she fell to her knees before she could even step forward.

Max stayed to hold the door. The loud banging behind the door became stronger and stronger with each passing second, and he couldn't hold it any longer.

"Fuck!" He swore as he looked at Princess Peach. "Peachy, go!"

Upon hearing his call, Princess Peach slowly walked forward, fear and terror were visible on her face. But she didn't come for him, she came for the others. Max rolled his eyes as he wondered if this girl would rather sacrifice someone other than herself.

Just as they turned to the corner, Max let go of the door and sprinted away. The door swung open in an instant and the creature stepped out with its mouth hanging open threateningly. Its teeth were sharp like knives, ready to bite and tear them into pieces.

When it noticed the people running away, it ran forward like a zombie in movies and films while chasing after them, passing after him. Its speed was fast as it managed to reach Amelia and Princess Peach in mere seconds before grabbing the former's neck.

"Aah!"

Amelia cried out as her neck was about to get torn into pieces. The monster stopped for a while from trying to eat her. A few seconds, that was the time needed for the monster to kill Amelia.

While Amelia screamed in fear, Max stopped for a moment as he held his breath, waiting for its final decision. The monster's long finger with sharp nails twitched slightly before it pierced through Amelia's throat with its claws. Blood sprayed out from the wound, dying the floor beneath her in red liquid.

"G-G... o..."

The monster stared at Amelia for a second before slowly opening its mouth pretty wide. The group looked at what happened in fear, not willing to enter their mind that Amelia had died because of them.

Max stood up and quickly approached the group. He passed by the monster, but it didn't do anything and kept eating Amelia's body gawky.

As it finished, its body slowly morphed back into Amelia's form, who stood up from her spot with a creepy smile.

"W-What is that?" Flexy pointed at the creature with trembling fingers.

His expression paled behind his visor as Max glanced at him before turning toward the creature that now transformed into Amelia and began to walk away from them.

"This is too creepy." Princess Peach shivered slightly as Max agreed with her words.

The creature was still silent and walking away from them instead of chasing them. Now that Amelia had become its second prey, no one knew what it would do next.

At least, the four of them were now safe.

"Haa..." Max slumped on the ground, his hazmat suit rustled as he breathed out in exhaustion. "I am sorry about Amelia. May you rest easy in spectator mode. I have tried my best to hold the door." He apologized as Lily patted his shoulder.

"What was that?" She asked curiously. "Is it a new monster?"

Max nodded weakly. "It is, but this is definitely way more dangerous than the previous monster. When I entered that room earlier, the monster looked like MadLad. And now it looked like Amelia."

Princess Peach gulped audibly at his explanation before speaking shakily. "Y-You mean I could turn into something else?"

"That's exactly what I mean." He affirmed, and an audible gulp could be heard. Find your next read at My Virtual Library Empire

"So we can't exactly trust our teammates either now? No one knows who is the real one?"

"Correct." He said before turning to Flexy beside him.

Just as he turned, his face was met with a palm. He was pushed back a few steps from the impact as Flexy pointed at him accusingly.

"Monster! I won't believe you. How dare you kill my best buddy, Breeze! Don't think that I will believe you!"

Max looked at him, confused. Princess Peach and Lily were also surprised by what Flexy did before looking at both of them alternatively. The latter blinked her eyes repeatedly.

— What just happened?

— Did Flexy just accuse Breeze that he was a monster? The skinwalker?

— lololol, betrayal scene? This will be fun

— Yeap, Flexy is a good actor

— Go, Flexy! Kick him out! We won't give this skinwalker a chance to escape!

— Now I am interested in how it will end

— We have more than two hours left anyway so they can play around all they want

Naturally, Max understood why Flexy did this. Content was a valuable thing for streamers. So many would sacrifice themselves to gain more views. That was why he wouldn't hesitate to use this opportunity to make some funny content out of him.

Max grinned under his hazmat suit. When he stood up, his expression changed into a serious one.

"You... You're not Flexy!" He pointed at him as if he realized something big while Flexy didn't back down.

"No, you're not Breeze!"

"Prove it to us that you're my buddy, the one who always messes something up at the most critical moment and finally dies early. How sad, friend."

He acted his role perfectly while everyone seemed to buy it immediately as Princess Peach and Lily nodded repeatedly in agreement. They believed Max was a real one. That actually happened in their practice for Knight's Journey program.

"That doesn't prove anything. The monster could use AI and change into you." Flexy's retort sounded reasonable. "As for me, I never left Princess Peach and Lily's sight, so I can never be a monster, right? That's the proof I have! Meanwhile, you entered that room. The real Breeze might've fallen into the monster already. You're an impostor!"

— He has a point...

— Maybe this Breeze isn't Breeze to begin with!

— I think Breeze has killed MadLad too

— Hahahaha, what's with this chaotic situation? But, both have reasons.

— This is like Low Attorney moment lol

The chat enjoyed it with enthusiasm. The viewers enjoyed seeing the two famous streamers accusing each other without putting their guard down.

In their perspective, this was too scary to be true. The idea of a skinwalker who could be someone else was so horrifying.

Immersion was important in a streaming, so Max didn't answer the chat now even though he wanted to yell at them.

'You guys have been watching me since the start. Who are you calling killing MadLad?'

Anyway, this situation wouldn't be resolved unless he proved his innocence or did something crazy enough to disprove it. But how could he do it when there was no real evidence he could use?

Max racked his brain before realizing something.

"Let's agree to disagree." He said, "I will go alone to the left while you are alone to the right."

"No!" Lily shook her head and grabbed his hand before speaking, "D-Don't leave me..." She looked at her with puppy eyes.

Looking at her, Max thought about his decision twice. Going alone in this situation could be dangerous. Even he wasn't sure whether or not his friend was the real one.

Still, he didn't want to just watch and do nothing while Flexy enjoyed being the center of attention. The smirk behind his visor was visible from where he stood.

'Moving alone is safer, as we can just think everyone else other than us is the skinwalker. But I also can't leave Lily alone.'

A choice between going with his girlfriend or alone.

It was an easy pick.

"Okay, let's go together."

"Heh! I won't fall into your trap. I am going to the left area alone!" Flexy shouted as Princess Peach and Lily froze before looking at him with terrified eyes. "I have no friends here anymore, so I will go alone. You guys are just monsters who want to eat me. Farewell. I shall take revenge for my buddy, Breeze, alone."

Max rolled his eyes at his word as Princess Peach grabbed Lily's arm in fear while trembling.

"I-It's normal for a Princess and a Queen to stay together. Let that fool peasant die alone. A-As for me, I shall keep myself away from him... Not-Flexy."

Hearing that, Max nodded. There would be more risk with more people moving together. If they just split for a few seconds, they could be replaced by a monster.

"Never leave each other's sight no matter what." He ordered before leading them away from Flexy. "And never stay in one place."

"Un."

"Y-You have no right to order me. Hmpf!" Princess Peach averted her eyes while Lily nodded beside her.

Max couldn't help but sigh. They began to move toward the right path.
