Chapter 81: Chapter 81-Notes and Karaoke Plans
Hinata had just finished his first two classes and was heading to meet Kageyama during the break.
"So? Do you have them?" asked Kageyama.
"I don't. I couldn't even find my English notebook. Actually, it's been a while since I last brought it to school…" said Hinata thoughtfully, his hand on his chin.
"IF YOU STOPPED PLAYING AROUND IN CLASS AND FOCUSED ON LEARNING, MAYBE YOU WOULD HAVE IT!... though, you still get good grades, so I can't say much!" Kageyama complained, his tone accusatory at first, but he sighed, unable to deny Hinata's results.
"Well, I don't have the notes you need, but we can ask someone else," suggested Hinata.
"We can't ask Tsukishima because he'll probably ask for something in return, and that would be a problem!" observed Kageyama.
"Hmm… what about that blonde girl who came to visit us the other day? She's trying out to be a new manager, right? I think she's a first-year… we could ask her," suggested Hinata.
"It's worth a shot. I think she's in class five," said Kageyama as the two walked toward the classroom. They found the girl drinking a boxed juice while looking out the window.
"Let me talk to her," said Hinata, stopping Kageyama.
"Why?" asked Kageyama.
"Dude… your face can be a bit intimidating to people, so… leave it to me!" said Hinata as he walked toward the girl.
"Hi, I'm Hinata Shoyo from the volleyball club! I think your name is Yachi, right?" said Hinata, approaching and greeting the girl.
"This guy's from the volleyball club! He's so tall!... What does he want with me? I heard he likes that pretty third-year girl! Did he see me with her and now wants to get back at me?" thought Yachi as she looked at Hinata, a look of concern visibly forming on her face.
"Are you okay?" asked Hinata, noticing her expression and that she wasn't responding.
"Sorry! It's me! Do you need something?" asked the girl, seeming slightly panicked.
"It's just that guy over there, Kageyama, who's also from the volleyball club, needs some English notes, but I don't have them… so we were wondering if you could lend us yours, if it's not too much trouble?" asked Hinata.
"Oh, that's all? Sure, no problem… here you go!" said Yachi, pulling a notebook from her bag.
"Great! Thanks!" said Hinata as he pulled a chair and desk closer to Yachi, with Kageyama immediately starting to copy the notes from the notebook.
"Aren't you going to copy them too?" asked Yachi after noticing Hinata didn't have a notebook or paper with him.
"Nah, I've gone this long without a notebook. I don't think I'll need one now," said Hinata, shrugging.
"OKAY! SORRY!" said Yachi, shrinking back.
"It's fine. What about you? Have you decided if you really want to join the club or not?" asked Hinata.
"No… not yet… I'm still going to the club today to watch your practice," replied Yachi.
"That's good. Volleyball is really fun, and now that our team is getting stronger, we might even make it to nationals! Also, if everything goes well, we're going to Tokyo in a few weeks. If you're with us, you can come too, if your mom or dad lets you!" said Hinata excitedly, a smile on his face.
"TOKYO!?" said Yachi, shocked.
"Yeah! We're having a training camp with some strong teams!" said Hinata.
"Hmm… my mom's permission… that might be a problem," said Yachi thoughtfully.
"I'm almost done!" said Kageyama as he wrote in his notebook.
"Well, I hope you can join our club. It'll be a big help to Shimizu, who always has a lot of work, and we can't do much for her!" replied Hinata as he got up from the chair and put the desk back in place.
"See you later!" said Kageyama, leaving the room with Hinata. After finishing the rest of the day's classes, including another English test where Hinata only got one question wrong.
"At least this time you managed to pass. For the next decisive test, just do this well!" said Hinata to Kageyama, who looked frustrated.
"I was sure I'd get at least 80% this time," complained Kageyama.
"Hinata's right. Passing is already an improvement!" said Daichi.
"Look over there! It's Yachi!" said Hinata, pointing to the blonde girl who had just entered the gym.
"Yachi, thanks for the help! Your notebook helped that idiot pass!" said Hinata excitedly, suggesting a double high-five with Yachi.
"REALLY!? That's amazing!" said Yachi, doing the double high-five with Hinata.
"Well, it seems like Hinata has somehow already become friends with her," observed Sugawara.
"Alright, everyone… today we're doing another 5v5," said Ukai as he handed out the vests to divide the teams. After another normal match, practice ended, and Takeda appeared in the gym.
"Everyone, gather around!" called Takeda.
"I should tell you that Ouginishi High requested a friendly match tomorrow, and I accepted!" said Takeda.
"A friendly match so suddenly? Sounds cool!" said Nishinoya.
"That's all! You're dismissed!" said Ukai.
"Daichi-san! We need to set up that space we talked about to help Hinata," whispered Tanaka into Daichi's ear.
"Right!" said Daichi.
"Let's go, guys!" said Daichi suggestively, signaling for everyone to follow him.
"Yeah, let's go! Right, Yachi?" said Tanaka.
"Uh… sure…" said Yachi.
"I don't know what he meant, but I'm getting out of here before something happens!" thought Yachi as she left the gym. Soon, only Hinata and Shimizu remained.
"Wow, they left quickly this time!" said Hinata, laughing, confused because he didn't know his friends' plan.
"Yeah…" said Shimizu, lost in thought as she picked up some stray balls from the floor.
"Let me help you with that!" said Hinata, helping Shimizu collect the balls.
"Listen, Shimizu-san, Tanaka, Nishinoya, and I were planning to go to karaoke with Kanoka and Yonezawa, those girls from Niiyama High who watched our match against Shiratorizawa… and I was wondering if maybe… you'd like to come too?" asked Hinata, his voice unusually timid.
"Hm…" murmured Shimizu thoughtfully, making Hinata extremely anxious.
"I think it could be fun… I don't have any plans for Saturday," said Shimizu, looking at him seriously.
"Really?" replied Hinata, a mix of surprise and happiness in his voice.
"Yeah, see you later!" said Shimizu, leaving the gym and leaving Hinata alone, lost in good thoughts.
