Chapter 7: Chapter 7: A Hurdle that teaches
Eiden arrived at the college feeling dejected due to the realization of the harsh truth regarding his wealth, but he wasn't anxious anymore. In fact, he felt a little better thanks to the company of his childhood friend Sasha, who had managed to distract him on the way with her usual cheerfulness.
They split at the sight of the college gates, as Sasha spotted her group of friends and immediately trotted toward them. The two exchanged a casual "later," and Eiden continued walking by himself.
He wasn't a loner. Not in the slightest. He had friends too it was just that he hadn't had time to hang out with them the past few days due to the unusual events happening in his life. Getting swallowed by a mysterious system, discovering he could steal girls from existing harems, and having to navigate college politics while hiding his powers wasn't exactly time-efficient.
Despite not being rich, Eiden had managed to click with a group of students who were well-off. Some of them were above average rich not ultra-wealthy elites, but definitely kids who didn't worry about the price of their lunch. Well Eiden wasn't particularly poor either just average atleast . They got along with Eiden because they shared similar interests games, anime, the occasional sarcastic rant about the education system. Though, deep down, Eiden always suspected that a few of them initially tried to befriend him just to get close to Sasha. But somewhere along the way, shared jokes and common passions transformed those superficial beginnings into real friendships. Of course, it still stung that he didn't have their money. And nowhere did that sting more than right now, on this very campus. But his friends didn't seem to mind it so he didn't he really felt left out before , But they definitely won't spare a friend's feeling as they repeatedly made fun of him in group chat after the news of him getting rejected by Linda got exposed , despite this they were still friends as in the end they were all SINGLE at the end of the day .
As he walked further toward the main building, a sudden rev of an engine caught his attention. A sleek red Bugatti zoomed past and parked elegantly in the private parking lot reserved for the highest donors and VIPs. The envy that rippled through the air was almost palpable. Even some of the above-average rich kids turned their heads, eyes narrowed.
Out stepped Eva Marvelle , she was a second-generation rich kid, the daughter of a mega businessman who just happened to be the CEO of Samsung. No one had ever seen her wear the same clothes twice. Rumor had it she threw her outfits away after a single use, like disposable tissue. She was beautiful unreachable. Like a moon behind thick glass. Her dreamy golden eyes shimmered in the morning sun, matching her silky blonde hair that seemed almost liquid in the light. Her pale skin, flawless and delicate, gave her a fragile porcelain-doll vibe that instinctively triggered a protective urge in not just males, but even some females.
She walked out of the car in designer clothes, her figure turning heads as she moved with the effortless grace of someone born into privilege. Eiden had seen her many times before. He had admired her from a distance, sure, but never had he cared too much. Back then, he wasn't even thinking about getting girls. That world felt too far from his reality. But now?
Now he had to get girls. That was literally his mission. And suddenly, the distance between him and Eva felt like the gap between heaven and earth. He sighed heavily. Even among the rich kids, Eva was a different breed an Elite. The few elites around the campus were untouchable, admired, envied, but never truly approached.
Still deep in thought, Eiden continued walking toward his class when something or rather someone caught his eye. A figure partially hidden behind a large pillar. Lyra?
"What is she doing there?" Eiden muttered under his breath, slowing his steps.
He squinted and peered more closely, and that's when he saw him—Ruel. The harem leader himself. The guy was leaning comfortably against a wall, shamelessly flirting with another girl. His smile, the casual way he tucked her hair behind her ear it was all the same playbook he used on Lyra.
And suddenly, it clicked. "Ohhh," Eiden thought, a smirk forming. "So that's why she's hiding." This was golden. If Ruel was openly flirting with someone else and Lyra had seen it, that meant emotional vulnerability. A wedge had been driven between them, and Eiden could now use that crack to his advantage.
He decided to act natural. Casual. As if he hadn't seen anything at all. Walking past the pillar, he pretended to notice Lyra at the last second.
"Oh! What are you doing here?" he asked, tilting his head slightly, voice feigning innocent surprise. "Classes are about to begin."
Lyra, startled, looked up. Her face wore a slightly panicked expression before softening into a weak smile. "Oh, hey… it's you, Eiden." She sighed and glanced away. "Yeah, let's go." Eiden furrowed his brows, playing the concerned friend. "What happened? You look sad."Lyra tensed. Her eyes flicked away from him. "Ohh... nothing! It's really nothing," she said quickly, her voice stuttering slightly as if she'd been caught doing something wrong. "I was just... thinking about something."
"Ok then, good to know," Eiden replied with a smile, but inside, his mind was racing. Once in class, Eiden took his seat and whispered mentally, "System-chan."
Yes? came the familiar voice in his head.
"Show me the Lyra quest progress." Ding!
[Target: Lyra – Progress: 46%]
"Wow, that much?!" Eiden's jaw dropped. "I didn't even do anything significant and it's already at 46%? Did something happen between them again? Come to think of it… it's not that surprising. Ruel's kind of a jerk who loves to show off. He might've done something stupid. Either way, good for me."
Just then, the classroom door opened and in walked Miss Mika, their substitute teacher. Her steps were firm, expression unreadable, and voice calm as ever.
"Your lecturer is on a sick leave. I will be taking over the lecture," she said with quiet confidence, placing her materials on the desk.
Eiden blinked. "Oh yeah... I almost forgot about her." He leaned back slightly and whispered mentally again. "System-chan, how's the quest related to her going?" Ding!
[Target: Miss Mika – Progress: 50%]
"Huh? Wait, what?" Eiden blinked twice. "Already 50%? What even happened between her and the husband? Did they get caught by the wife? Did something blow up?" DING!
Her relationship has been eradicated.
Eiden's eyes widened. "What do you mean by that?" She has broken her relationship with the male where she was part of the harem.
"Ohh… I see," Eiden nodded slowly, processing the info. "So she's… available now?" He scratched his head and asked again, "Then why is it still at 50% if she already broke up with him?"
That remaining 50% will be for you to make her a part of your harem. "...What??" Eiden's mind short-circuited. "I didn't even do anything to make her break up! How am I supposed to approach her? She's a teacher! That's social suicide! And a legal nightmare!"
That would be yours to take care of, said System-chan in an almost teasing tone.
Eiden slumped in his seat like a puppet with its strings cut. His expression blank, eyes staring into the void, a single tear escaping his left eye. "How… how am I supposed to flirt with a teacher?" he whispered to himself. "She might slap me. Or worse… report me."
The obstacles weren't just tall they were made of reinforced steel and labeled "DO NOT CROSS."
A heavy silence fell over him as the lesson began, but Eiden wasn't listening. His thoughts were spiraling, and the weight of the mission only seemed to grow heavier. He just recently became just above average in charm
And he was already being asked to conquer a teacher.
Eiden left out a big long Sighhhhhhh ..
