Chapter 185: Chapter 183: Lorna’s Powers Awaken Once More
Pepper and Lorna both understood—it had all been a misunderstanding.
It made sense, after all. He was a famous playboy, constantly surrounded by beautiful women. How could he possibly be into that?
"Lorna, didn't you have something to do? Why are you back?" Kino asked, looking at her return unexpectedly.
Lorna's eyes wandered evasively.
"Well, um, I…"
She couldn't get the words out and looked at Pepper for help.
Pepper stepped in, "Actually, Lorna's car broke down. Kino, if you have time, could you give her a ride?"
"Car? I have plenty in the garage… Oh wait, I just remembered—they're all out of gas."
Tony had initially planned to offer Lorna a car, but his face turned pale and he quickly changed his mind.
Kino wasn't an idiot. He could tell what they were trying to do. Looking at Lorna, who was pretending to flip through her notebook, he said,
"Lorna, I don't have a car. I flew here. I can only fly you back—would that be okay?"
"Yes!… I mean, sorry to trouble you, boss."
Lorna's face lit up, then quickly shifted back to a calm, collected look.
Kino chuckled. "Then let's go."
Lorna obediently followed behind him, the corners of her lips twitching upward involuntarily.
After they left—
Tony yanked his foot out from under Pepper's heel.
"Pepper, I think my toes are crushed."
"Sorry, Tony. Let me see."
Pepper crouched down and gently removed his sock and shoe.
Ever since she'd taken the enhancement serum, Pepper had become more beautiful and physically stronger—but sometimes, her strength was hard to control when she got emotional.
"It's okay, just a bit swollen. I'll put some ice on it later."
Tony stroked her face as she inspected his toes.
"Pepper…"
"Wait until tonight. You still have lots of paperwork to—mm…"
"Tomorrow's fine too. Pepper, you're so beautiful!"
"Tony…"
The two embraced and kissed. The air around them grew sweet and scorching with passion.
Kino flew through the sky, carrying Lorna in his arms.
Lorna curled up against his chest, silent.
Trying to ease the mood, Kino said, "The weather's really nice today, huh, Lorna?"
"…Mm."
Lorna gave a faint response.
Silence fell again.
Kino stared at the clouds ahead, spacing out.
This is awkward.
Maybe Tony and Pepper were wrong. Lorna doesn't seem to like me at all.
But she's so light… has she been eating properly?
Am I not paying her enough? Makeup and clothes are expensive these days. Should I give her a raise? But if I raise only hers, won't that be strange? Maybe I should give everyone a raise…
Kino finally broke the silence again. "Lorna, is studying tiring?"
Lorna paused a few seconds. "It's okay."
The awkward silence returned. Only the sound of the wind roared in their ears.
Venom, hurry and come save me!
Right, Venom's not here.
Venom and Pamela took the little lunatic shopping in Hell.
Ugh, I miss Venom…
What would she say if she were here?
["Say what? Just pin her to the bed and go to town—nothing works better than that!"]
Venom's terrifying face popped into Kino's mind.
(In Hell, Venom sneezed, rubbed his nose, and muttered: "Someone's talking trash about me…").
Kino shook his head. No, no, that trick only works on Pamela and the others.
But now that I'm thinking about Hell… did I forget something important?
While Kino furrowed his brows, lost in thought—
So firm…
So warm…
Lorna was overwhelmed by the sensations. Her brain, usually sharp enough to solve complex formulas, was stalling.
What am I even thinking?!
Right, think of a topic to talk about.
Like where have you been all this time, or what do you like to eat, or maybe about the beautiful landscapes in the East…
She glanced at Kino and noticed the frown on his face as he shook his head.
He can smell me. I knew it.
Well, I haven't washed my hair in two days, after all.
"…Boss, can you put me down?"
"Hm? We're not there yet. Did you forget something at Tony's place?"
Kino stopped mid-air, confused.
"No… I just don't feel well."
Kino frowned. Even without tasting sweat, he could tell that was a lie.
"Lorna, if something's wrong, you can tell me."
"Just put me down first."
Lorna felt so awkward. Just thinking that Kino might be silently enduring her odor made her want to disappear into the earth.
Seeing her stubborn expression, Kino started descending. Maybe she really needs the bathroom?
As soon as they touched the ground, Lorna backed away several steps.
"Boss, just drop me off here. I can walk the rest of the way myself."
She lifted her hands, which began to glow green, and floated into the air.
But before she could fly more than a meter, she felt a strong grip on the back of her collar, pulling her down again.
"Boss?"
"You're not leaving until you finish what you were saying. Even if you're in a rush to have a baby, you can tell me first."
Kino hated being left in the dark.
"There's… a smell…"
Lorna mumbled.
"What did you say?" Kino couldn't make it out.
"I said—I haven't washed my hair in two days! I smell bad!!" Lorna shouted, her voice echoing in the air.
And just like that, she felt relieved—that was her. Enough with the hesitation and self-doubt.
Kino's status, accomplishments, and power were all too high. Lorna couldn't help but feel inferior.
She had no status. She wasn't like her teachers, each a top expert in their fields. Her powers were still developing. Tony had said she'd be powerful one day, but that was in the future.
Kino was momentarily stunned, then burst out laughing. "I thought it was something serious—and it was just that?"
Lorna glared at him, her cheeks flushed. "You think that's not serious?"
Kino waved his hand. "It's nothing. Don't worry so much—I didn't smell anything."
"You're lying! You were shaking your head and frowning. No way you didn't notice!"
Kino looked her in the eyes. "I swear. I was just thinking—I feel like I forgot something…"
Lorna pressed her lips together, no longer bothering to come up with excuses. Green light glowed from her palms once more.
"Boss, I've answered your question. I'll be going now."
As soon as she rose into the air, Kino grabbed her again. Looking at her stubborn expression, he sighed.
"Okay, but no hitting me next."
"Huh?"
Before she could process what he meant, he leaned forward—his face buried in her neck.
She felt something wet slide along her skin.
She froze completely.
"…Tastes good. Smooth, tender. Did you apply body lotion?"
Kino smacked his lips.
"Uhhh…"
Lorna stared at him blankly.
He licked me?
He licked me!
And he even gave a review?!
"…Haha… I must be dreaming…"
She laughed awkwardly.
Suddenly, her entire body flared up in an intense green light. The world around them turned green.
Nearby metal signs, wires, and iron sand began trembling, then snapped, rising into a massive black tornado surrounding them both.
Metal fragments spun wildly in the wind, clashing and sparking.
Blue lightning danced along the edges of the storm, illuminating Kino and Lorna's stunned faces.
