Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Lovely Old Grandma
A few moments later the door was opened and in the frame stood a small old woman who had a look of concern on her face. "Are you alright Erik?" she said with a heavy German accent. The woman found poor Erik lying face down tangled in his blankets having fallen from his bed. "Erik dear, did you have a nightmare?" she asked as she moved towards him to comfort him.
I sat up quickly and held my head as pain assaulted him and memories came crashing back into my skull. My new name was Erik Bodewig he had just had his 6th birthday a few days ago and this old woman was my grandmother she had looked after me since his parents died. She was a lovely woman with the name Sasha and she was 167 years of age, oh and also she was a witch.
"I am fine gran I just hit my head as I fell out of bed" I croaked out as I was slightly surprised by the German accent that my voice held. "Are you sure dear, let me have a quick check" She brandished her wand at me and fired off a diagnosis charm before I could even react. "It is as you say dear, you have light bruising on your forehead but everything seems intact. Try to get some more sleep dear it is only 2:30 in the morning, Goodnight." Shortly after saying that she left my room to go back to sleep, leaving me to come to terms with my new 6-year-old body.
I spent the next hours until morning getting used to his smaller size, I was quite tall in his past life being 6ft at the age of 11. However, my height wasn't the thing that made him introspective it was the strange energy that was running through me, this energy that seemed to travel from my heart to every other point in his body. This was my magic I was sure of it, I immediately tried to cast the most basic spell I knew from the Harry Potter world, the Lumos spell, but nothing happened. The energy inside him didn't seem to react at first, no that's not right the energy seemed very sluggish, not having enough power to cast the spell. So I tried to make it move within his body to try to build up the strength of his magic, at first nothing happened then a small trickle of magic started to move ever so slowly towards where I wanted it.
The morning quickly came and his gran came back in, "Time to wake up Erik breakfast is downstairs and we have to continue packing since Elizabeth will be waiting for us to arrive at 5. We only have the last remnants of the library to pack and your room." During this time I quickly got dressed in some robes which he found surprisingly comfortable with the amount of charms to regulate temperature. "Yes Gran, do you want me to do the library while you do my room since you can set out the robes you want me to wear to the party we will be going to?" Gaining a contemplating expression on her face she says "That would be a good idea, be careful of the old dresser in there since it has a bogart in it, oh and watch out for doxies in the curtains their venom is particularly nasty. Be careful won't you." Finishing with a caring smile she sets about organising his clothes into neat piles ready to be packed into the suitcase for travel.
I walked towards the dining room as the smell of bacon, eggs and sausages wafted to my nose making me realise just how hungry I had become. The sight that greeted me in the dining room was Mipsy the old house elf making the pots and pans fly around the room to plate the food while simultaneously making them wash themselves after the food had been deposited. "Thank you, Mipsy." I managed to get out as I stuffed my face with the delicious food, "It is no problem young master, if you want more Mipsy will gladly make a second helping."
After I demolished my third helping of breakfast I headed towards the small library that was downstairs, inside was a small collection of books that still needed to be put away and an open suitcase inside which the rest of the library was packed. Sparing a glance at the dresser where the bogart lived I started to pack the books while also trying to make them float above my hand with the minuscule amount of magic I was able to move into doing what I wanted.
Moving all of the books only took me about 30 minutes, so while waiting for my grandmother to finish packing my clothes I decided to read a book I found while packing. The book was an old fade volume of about 300 pages bound in thick brown leather and was simply titled Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling. The pages were of a rough parchment but they drew little of my interest what captured my interest was the notes someone had scribbled onto one of the pages, whole sections were scribbled out and the notation was just saying the same things over and over. 'All that's needed for magic is will and intent.'
Looking at the book in my hand I decided to test out the notations, I willed my magic to conform to my intent and focus my intent on making the book float above my hand. I focused and focused until the book shifted slightly in my hand causing me to lose focus instantly in jubilation, I did it, and the book moved. I spent the next 2 hours making the book move a small bit more each time until the book slowly started to float little by little. I was ecstatic that I didn't notice my gran's footsteps heading towards the library, nor did I notice the door opening but I did notice the squeal of delight that she gave off which caused me to drop the book onto my foot in surprise.
